I love these lessons! I’m also a Chinese person and it’s interesting to see everything explained and most of the times I don’t notice it. Now I think it’s so cool that we’re fluent like that in Chinese without even actually being explained or taught about it.
I just realized it was gone too! I was about to link it for another commenter that was asking for first impression reviews for Tribes and Empires and I came back to look for it. Maybe she's going to upload a more extensive First Impression 2.0?
You can just separate them into two groups and change the tone according to the rules respectively, But I can guarantee you that this situation is really rare where you are almost impossible to see 😅
Hi, I don't know if you still care since your comment is a year old but: The 3rd tones of 你可以 becomes 你(half 3rd tone)可(2nd tone)以(3rd tone) because 可以 is an established word, so it follows the rule in the video. 你 in this case is the subject of the sentence, but because it immediately precedes 可以, it takes on a half 3rd tone for ease of speech. The final 3rd tone character 裹 isn't next to another 3rd tone character, and it also is not the first character of a word, so no tone change applies. Hope that helps!
@@isadoraiohana5251 You do have to change the first and second character all to 2nd tone. Which then becomes wo(35)ye(35)you(214). Tbh, wo(35)ye(neutral tone)you(214) and wo(21-half 3rd tone)ye(35)you(214) all sound natural to me as a native speaker. The difference might be the speakers have different accents or maybe it depends on the context. So stick with the 223tone pattern would be fine enough.
I do have a question regarding tones: what about singing? Does it still apply? I mean when we sing in Chinese say like the theme song sung by 张杰 in 三生三世十里桃花 are the tones changed?
I think that I can answer this one. Singing is basically toneless Chinese (except obviously the fact that you are singing different tones). The pronunciation is the main thing.
I really love the way you present and explain these lessons! I am a beginner-level Chinese student and your lessons are very helpful!

And what if the 3 words are individuals, like, wo ye you- that is - I also have
In this case, you don't have to change the tone

梦见 811414182 so you’re saying we just keep the auto tone that the word really is when singing instead of changing the tones with different rules?
yes
梦见 811414182 hmm...that’s interesting. Next time when I listen to a song, I’ll be extra attentive to the pronunciations.
Can you give me an example of part of a song?
