My Labrador is small, but I don't think it's dwarfism. She has long legs, and her parents are normal size. She was supposed to be a mobility service dog for me but my vet doesn't think she is going to get any bigger. She'll be a year next month (June 2022) and she hasn't reached 50 pounds yet. Her last weight was 44.6 pounds. She may not be big physically but she has a giant heart and she is a big cuddle bug. What's funny is I named her "Duza" which is Polish for big.
I would like to get a medium size dog not more than 40lbs. I just need a good companion but I have limitations on size for my apartment? Any suggestions...not being mean but I like short hair dogs friendly and upbeat? Idk. Just started looking again. Had a golden.. black lab and a Pitt lab mix. I just like a dog bigger than Chihuahua etc. lmk if any sites you could send me. 👍 thanks so much
The mini lab sounds like too many issues I want a dog for a long time. Hopefully.. the mini versions seem like shorter life expectancy etc because of improper breeding.
I had a black Lab with dwarfism. She was a great dog but her front legs were shorter than her hind legs. She also developed juvenile cataracts at the age of 2 years old. She eventually was completely blind. Unfortunately dwarfism and cataracts are are genetically linked. Reputable breeders do not promote breeding dogs with this condition. There is no such breed as a mini lab!
Intentionally breeding bad genetics is bad and selfish, only quality dogs should be breed, I've had so called quality dogs and I love them more than anything else, but that came at a hefty price at the vet, shorter hunting life span, which is sad, because it's what they are breed for and they love being out in the field getting it dune, they where $800 dogs just over twenty years ago, when I could have gotten better genetics then for $1500 had more years hunting and had a lot less in vet bills, they were the best dogs I could have ever had, but hindsight is 20/20 and in the future I will definitely invest in a breeder that is responsibly trying to breed out the bad genetics, today I am to old to carry a 75 lbs dog home because she can't walk anymore on our evening walk, but would I ? yes definitely, but I shouldn't have to, and I don't want to put another dog through that and the drugs and the vet, if you don't want to support your shelter dogs and want a puppy support quality breeding programs, investigate your breeders, get to know them long before they ever get to know you, check with your vet ask them for advice and who they recommend or what they recommend, get dogs with a guarantee that there free of problematic genetics such as eyes hips urinary issues etcetera , and if your not going be a reputable breeder that is actively trying to breed out the bad genetics, then don't breed them ever, just love and enjoy there wonderful personalities and the love they will bring to you and your family and friends.
Have my beautiful Delilah mini lab 12 years old still rocking! Got her when she was 10 weeks old 💙
Oh, they're adorable.
Thanks for the video
