I bought a standard passenger Metris and did this myself. It's awesome.

Chrysler / dodge should offer the pop top roof option, with the stow & go seats they already do & a fold down rear bench they could offer similar at a fraction of the price , & be more American consumer friendly .

No galley? No toilet? or wet bath? The Jules Verne version offered in the UK has it all for the same price as this Metris that has less features.

Our 1980 VW camper was 25K new...in today's money, over 80K--so the price is actually about right. However, not sure why we're getting excited about the exact same setup as the campers from the 60s/70s/80s. Hopefully this thing sells like hotcakes and spurs Ford or someone into making a proper and less expensive compact van camper.

Whoa! not even a single burner, refrig, and back gate shower hose for $75,000!!!???

With all the emphasis on van life..there are few options today in the US. I have a Volks California..now in Germany..and great vehicle..and why they are not for sale in US is a question for the marketing people.

Why can't the us get some of the really cool, more useful, and more affordable camper vans from europe and japan?

  • @badkid73
    @badkid73 4 года назад +4

For that price, I want the MARCO POLO. It is unfortunate that MB USA is tied to building the Metris in South Carolina and is unwilling to import a Europe built Marco Polo.

Hope this sells like hotcakes and encourages VW to sell their California camper van in the US.

I wish affordable car companies like subaru, honda, or toyota would make a new camper van. Im sure the price would be cut by half.

I AGREE TOYOTA is currently number one in sales in the USA and had previously sold multiple RV's trucks/vans and a new one would surely sweep the market here!

We have had a Sprinter Road Trek Agile for TEN years. Very nice to have a toilet, refrigerator, stove. Sure, nice for weekends. If you are retired and want to try 2-3 weeks on the road, or, 2-3 MONTHS on the road, you need the extras. Our short Sprinter is 19 feet AND we travel with a 60 pound Golden Retriever. I suggest people rent something first. Looks romantic but you better like your travel partner, be ready for some hot days, cold days and some boring campgrounds. On the other hand, we have had some really magical experiences and many of the best are on BLM land or just finding a place in the middle of nowhere with the Vermillion Cliffs behind you. Self contained, off the grid. Again, takes some practice and getting used to being in a small space, imagine a wet several days, cannot really go out much, dog gets wet, towels get wet, insides start getting muddy. Just talking about reality. However, we had many trips since March all over California and, given our mild temperatures, expect to be on the road again soon, up the coast and in the woods.

Sienna hybrid would crush this. Would be 20k cheaper and 10x more reliable.

I know! Wish Toyota Sienna Hybrid 2nd row seats were removable and that someone would do pop top installations for the Sienna Hybrid - I've been looking around and have only been able to find companies that do the pop top for the non-hybrid version. Will continue looking though.

Seems like a big premium over the passenger van just for seats that spin and a pull-down bed. There's no sink, no stove, no extra storage.

I own a 87 2.1 Vw westfalia ,and I always outdoor with it for 30 to 60 days at a time.
      I love cooking.
You don’t need the cooking in the van at all ‘ you cook out side.or you coke inside with a portable.
And you don’t need the water tanks at all .
You need the tank space for better things.
      What you really need is:
      Great air conditioning
Good engine, and power trains , better safety , good looking new car
And nice original metallic paint job.
And if your wife left you, you need a nice Mercedes, to pic up new chickens

@@nissimcohen7423 I'd just like the option to cook inside and do some dishes if it's raining for 70k.

they have the full camper version already. This is the more simpler one. They copied VW's name "Weekender" -at least mercedes is trying. VW America totally buried their head in sand since they stopped selling these in USA as of 2003. The new VW's westfalias are everywhere in europe and look better than this mercedes version.
