She looks so good, I can't believe she's actually 69 years old. I noticed her as Auguste van Pels in 'Anne Frank: The Whole Story' and have loved her since.
I thought the same thing: I googled her, since I was so taken with her acting and the show in general (in June 2017) and was amazed to find out that she's 71: I would not have thought so, with all the running, climbing, etc. that she does. She admitted that she does have a "stunt double" (who's a man, but he's mostly used for long-distance shots, as when she's driving), but she does most of her close-up running, climbing up and down rocks/over the moors/hills/in and out of boats, etc. I just finished binge-watching all the episodes from all the series (since PBS in the USA/Boston only showed a few episodes of S4): intelligent, complex, intricate, fascinating show with awesome scripts and superb actors....and Brenda is the best of them, the center around which they all revolve. One of the best drama series ever created. And the cinematography of all the different parts of the northern UK is simply stunning!!
I watch every morning when I'm having my coffee it's so down to earth and great to watch i will miss it so much when it stops best programme for a long time please keep it going
Yes, indeed, David Leon (her sergeant in the first four seasons, Joe Hathaway) is "gorgeous" (Brenda's word for him, too, during one of her interviews)! The character of Aiden (Kenny Doughty) is very different, but I'm really warming up to him (just finished watching all of Season 7): As he said, he had to make the character "his own" and not just a copy of Joe. And an interesting new member to her staff is Hisham (bright and unique). I never understood, from the television episodes, why her first coroner (another gorgeous man) left after Season 6 (his character was often very cheeky back to Brenda (more so than the Season 7 older man). We understood from one tiny line that "Joe" got promoted, but that's all I know. And, of course, the episode in which "Bethany" was killed was so painful, such anguish. But often we don't know much about the back-stories of many of the characters. (I guess I'll have to read the books now.)

Go to work, you don't have to be needy of the boss so badly that you cry, or try to prove some point which gets you killed. They need to stop making the black female who work with Vera come off needy of her, it's so stupid, it is unreal.
Sorry, but her 'geordie' accent sounds terribly forced to a native... And that name Stanhope - I shudder every time she says it. NOBODY from the North-east would ever pronounce it 'Stan-hope' as she does. There's a town in the North-East called Stanhope, and it is pronounced 'Stannup'. Everyone in the North-East has heard of it, and none of us would ever prounounce 'Stanhope' any other way.
It matters when she gets praised for it.... Think about Dick Van Dyke's famously crap Cockney accent in 'Mary Poppins' - THAT is how bad Vera sounds to us.

Just read your comment. But it's like the Scots. If we were to speak our local language nobody would understand. I have heard many a "Scottish" accent that makes me cringe. This is a TV programme for export . The language needs to be understandable. As it is there are many people who resort to subtitles. This is a wonderful series with excellent acting and shows the North East to advantage. Be pleased for that.

Vera may appear frumpy but she dresses for the elements and always wears a cute little scarf accessory.
She's excellent in this role, and i love the theme music. the guy that plays her son is gorgeous.
