One of the best tracks in the Half Life universe, it fits well with the transit sequence in HL1, but once you listen to it again you realize it is a lot more eerie and mysterious. This would be the song that describes Gordon's time in stasis, time drifting by in some never ending dimension
makes me feel like im in some sort of disused subway tunnel that everyone forgot about long ago. You can hear the ambient noises of the surface world fade away as you go deeper into the tunnel, to what destination you dont know.
This music is perfect to lay in the cold grass, looking at thousands of stars, many of which may no longer even exist because their light took so long to reach your eyes... just imagining the countless lifeforms that may actually reside on distant planets in between those stars... and their fascinating behaviour.
Kids can't understand how unbelievable this tram ride into Sector C and the long walk down into the test chamber felt to anyone experiencing this back in 1998. Gaming had nothing like it before then, and it undoubtedly left a mark on the industry. What a masterpiece of a game.

Everything about the original just holds a better, more cohesive experience compared to Black Mesa. The soundtrack, the gameplay, the pacing, the atmosphere, the voice acting, even the character models feel somehow cartoonier in the fan remake over the low poly original to me.
I love the feeling of uncertainty and “unforeseen consequences” in this song. It’s so ominous, and makes you feel like something incredibly significant is going to happen.
Imagine you just kill shits in games back at those years. Then, suddenly a game comes out where you don't have to kill everything you see, you get people supporting your back. Instead of starting to fight the first second you press you New Game, the game first introduces you the environment around you
Imagine if Alyx and Gordon had to go back to the remains Black Mesa to look for something. I'd imagine Gordon starring off into the distance, looking back at the incident.... wishing- no, thinking how things could have been different. They feel guilty thinking they could have done something to stop this all, but there was nothing they could do, they tried their best.

Damn I miss a good single player game with masterful level design, subtle story, soundtrack that enriches the experience and even after finishing the adventure - get me hooked so much that I am ready to jump and replay it again.... All I have to choose now are either vapid and shitty military shooters or vapid and shitty open world conveyor made games....
Black Mesa did this track dirty, the game overall is great but why.. Why change this masterpiece so drastically? It sounds so bad in Black Mesa. Glad i played Half-Life before Black Mesa (which is what you should do..) so i could experience this amazing track.

Technically Black Mesa was nuked at the end of Opposing Force. So it's problem covered in Nuclear Radiation.

Good morning and welcome to the Black Mesa Transit System. This automated train is provided for the security and convenience of employees of the Black Mesa Research Facility personnel. Please feel free to move about the train or simply sit back and enjoy the ride.
The time is 8:47 AM. Current topside temperature is 93 degrees, with an estimated high of one hundred and five. The Black Mesa compound is maintained at a pleasant 68 degrees at all times.
This train is inbound from Level 3 dormitories to Sector C Test Labs and Control Facilities. If your intended destination is a high-security area beyond Sector C, you will need to return to the Central Transit hub in Area 9 and board a high-security train. If you have not yet submitted your identity to the retinal clearance system, you must report to Black Mesa Personnel for processing before you will be permitted into the high-security branch of the transit system.
Due to the high toxicity of material routinely handled in the Black Mesa compound, no smoking, eating, or drinking are permitted within the Black Mesa Transit System.
Please keep your limbs inside the train at all times. Do not attempt to open the doors until the train has come to a complete halt at the station platform. In the event of an emergency, passengers are to remain seated and await further instruction. If it is necessary to exit the train, disabled personnel should be evacuated first. Please stay away from electrified rails, and proceed to an emergency station until assistance arrives.
A reminder that the Black Mesa Hazard Course decathlon will commence this evening at nineteen hundred hours in the Level 3 facility. The semifinals for high-security personnel will be announced in a separate Secure Access transmission. Remember, more lives than your own may depend on your fitness.

Black Mesa did this track dirty, the game overall is great but why.. Why change this masterpiece so drastically? It sounds so bad in Black Mesa. Glad i played Half-Life before Black Mesa (which is what you should do..) so i could experience this amazing track.
