  • Preformulation is the stage in drug and dosage form development dedicated to the determination of the physicochemical properties of a drug candidate. Solubility, partition coefficient, melting point and enthalpy of fusion, polymorphism, pKa, and compression properties are examples of the key attributes that have to be investigated before a new chemical entity goes into formulation stage.
Thermal analysis is largely applicable in preformulation for the characterization of the molecular and macroscopic properties of single substances. It is also useful for the investigation of interactions of a new drug with other substances that may eventually be used for dosage form development.
During this webinar, we will approach the application of thermal analysis, in this case DSC and TGA, on preformulation of pharmaceutical dosage forms, discussing the theoretical background of each method applied and given examples of such applications.
