The mackerel is not the normal mackerel (which we also have). It's a different species in the same family. I googled it and apparently in English it's Chub Mackerel. In Malay it's ikan kembung (kembung fish - "kembung" means bloated which refers to its round belly). It's less oily than normal mackerel and has a denser texture. Tastes really good fried with no batter (just salt and tumeric).

My favorite fish in Malysia now is catfish grilled catfish is amazing here in Malaysia. My father actually died, and his body was found during the day of Eid ul fitr. So we didn’t go to any open house. We were invited to a couple, but we were just devastated to go.

Give me any type of fish, definitely not stingray though. Before buying, smell it first. If it smells like a baby's pee, means it's a female fish got caught in the net while having its period. Don't buy it because no matter how its being clean & wash, the smell will be there. Alhamdullillah, glad to hear now you & Anton are starting to enjoy eating grilled fish.
