  • This is a quick update on how I dealt with our cracked RV shower pan and a look at some stick-on bars for the corner shelf. A viewer was kind enough to build a teak shower grid similar to what we use on our boat. Cool!

    Years ago, our shower in our house cracked. I hired a guy that did fiberglass repairs to come out and he cut and put 1/4” fiberglass mat in the bottom, mixed up the resin with matching color, and poured it in and smoothed it out. He left it where the fiberglass mat was coated but left the texture. That was 18 years ago, and still perfect.

    When Lois saw the shower bars, I knew it was going on the honeydew list. Thx Ray. Lol.

    Our shower pan was not reinforced underneath that well and didn’t crack but caused the plumbing fittings underneath to leak. What a pain. I finally added reinforcement underneath and seems to solve the problem. Glad I did it as probably was a matter of time before it cracked like yours.

    That looks very nice. I found a fiberglass tub repair kit several years ago that you can get in several colors that match factory shower tubs but I replaced the whole shower instead.

    I noticed the shower pan in my Cougar is pretty flimsy too. Although instead of cracking the floor my weight apparently caused the pvc drain piping. to crack. I shimmed under the pan with wood to make it more solid. I love the shower grid and the shower bars.

    Like the metal retainers for the small shelves in the shower stall. I’ll have to get a couple..TNX

      Yeah, very talented guy, he sent pictures as the progress happened from raw teak wood scraps to finished product.

    We installed those shower shelf things in the RV, they have stayed in place for over 2000 miles and are wonderful. Great job on the teak, and a great gift!

    I did that for my 277RLSWE when I patched it. It evens out the weight over the entire stall. It’s been fine since 1/2022.

    That teak insert really jazzes it up, doesn't it? What a kind and thoughtful gift from your viewer. I've been thinking about getting those things for the corner shelving. I hadn't decided which type to get but it's nice to see they are working well for you. Nice update.

    That’s a nice teak shower floor pan. That will make a big difference spreading the load around the floor pan. You shouldn’t have any more issues now. I really like your new shelf braces you have. We have the same shelf with no way to keep shampoo in. I will be looking on Amazon for them.

    Same problem that I have with my condo shower. A professional fix was quoted around 3000 a year ago. I think I'll try your fix when my current tenant moves out. Right now I've got some interlocking grid tiles that came from Temu. I cut them down to fit, and I guess they're working - but I think your teak grid looks very nice! Thanks...

      It was a one off out of scrap wood he had kicking around. He is retired but did it as a favor, said my videos had helped him a lot since we both have the same Keystone fifth wheel.

    If that cracks again; next time put some fiberglass cloth or fiberglass mat on the epoxy to bridge between the crack and wet it in like you would do with fiberglass resin. The West System epoxy is the best in my honest opinion.

    Do you know if this will work for cracks in a fiberglass RV sink? I have small cracks in the side edges.

    Did you look under the shower pan and reinforce it to keep it from flexing.

    • @LoveYourRV
      @LoveYourRV  3 месяца назад +1

      I know they use Styrofoam under the pan for reinforcement as I can see it where the drain pipe feeds into the basement storage area. To change that, there is major work. You have to take the shower completely apart. Glass surround, walls, and pan all have to come out by the looks of it. I'll see how this works instead. ;) I think they want some flex in the pan and the walls because the whole fifth-wheel frame has a bit of flex when it gets hitched up. That's my guess as to why it's on Styrofoam versus the underlying OSB floorboard.

    • @lawhesl01
      @lawhesl01 3 месяца назад +4

      Ray I don't know about yours but most of the newer Cougars all have an inspection cover I think that gives you access under the shower pan. I've shimmed between the pan and styrofoam to stiffen up my pan as well as installed some 2X blocking under it. The teak mat really helps in my opinion.
      I see quite a few people on the Cougar Owners Group with cracks in the pan from excessive flexing. You've done well to make it all these years without a crack.
      Thanks for the tip on the temporary repair. I'll pass that along to others who have this issue.

      Mine was built in 2010, no inspection panels, it has 3/4 flooring and aluminum beams underneath. Behind the backwall is a pocket door channel, side wall is the exterior wall.
