  • Among the most worshipped and iconic figures of Hinduism is Ganesha, or Ganesh. Instantly recognized by his elephant head and multiple arms, Ganesha was the son of Parvati and Shiva, regarded as the god of new beginnings and good luck. He is the remover of obstacles both physical and spiritual, a patron to both creative and inquisitive minds, and fiercely loyal and protective of those that he loves.

      Ganesha: "Oh, just because I have the head of an elephant, you presume I love peanuts?"
      Homer:"Uhhh...do you?"
      Ganesha: "OF COURSE I DO!"

    "...Through the Looking Glass. That poem, 'The Walrus and the Carpenter,' is an indictment of organized religion. The Walrus, with his girth and good nature, he obviously represents either Buddha or with his tusks, the Hindu elephant god, Lord Ganesha. That takes care of your Eastern religions." -Loki (from "Dogma," 1999 film)
    That was the first time (that I can remember) ever hearing of Lord Ganesha, but it was not until watching this video that I actually learned anything about the deity. So, thanks for the new info. 😊

    I think the broken tusk also symbolizes the fact that there's no such thing as a perfect God by having it broken it shows that he's not perfect.

    The story about the feast definitely sounds familiar. The rich get nowhere by flaunting their wealth, and a humble gift offered sincerely is what's actually called for. It's basically the same as the Biblical story about the poor woman's tiny offering being worth more to God than the piles of money thrown around by wealthy men. Naturally, the Hindu version is a little more colorful, but the idea is the same.

    Ganeshas head was chopped off because shiva accepted a curse given to him by a sage who was the father of suryadev the sun planet. Reason being because there was a renowned king who was a big devotee of shiva and only worshipped him. This was during a time where most gods only saw shiva as a mystical yogi and didnt know he was the supreme deity and embodiment of the cosmos. Therefore out of arrogance the sun cursed the king. After seeing that his devotee had been cursed by the sun simply for worshipping him he attempted to kill the sun but realising the sun is a necessary part of the solar system and life he resurrected him. But before he could resurect the sun his father cursed shiva that one day he'll realise wat it feels like to lose a son like he did. Shiva being trikaldarshi meaning he can see both the past, present and future because hes time itself knew this because it was all part of his illusion and accepted the curse. After this flashforward when ganesh was guarding parvati, he wasnt just guarding the bath. He had a massive ego with regards to his strength and power which is why he took down so many gods, in order to show him reality and truth he chopped his head while also fulfilling curse. When searching for a head, ganesh doesnt have an elephant head. Theres a race of beings who surround shiva as his devotees and warriors known as Ganas, one of them was a huge devotee who offered his head after hearing the news. Shiva being pashupatinath meaning lover and lord of animals blessed him for his sacrifice and gave him moksha and fulfilled his wish. The ganas head resembles somewhat of elephant. Attaching this head onto his son made him ganapati meaning lord of the gana species. It also means hes free from arrogance and ego and is more wiser. Metaphorically this was all shivas illusion and doing from beginning to end because hes trying to tell us as humans to sacrifice our arrogance because it will only lead to destruction.

    Side question: does anyone know why Hindu gods are so regularly depicted as blue skin?

    • @MythologyUnleashed
      @MythologyUnleashed  2 месяца назад +2

      Various colors have different meanings in Hindu culture, but blue often displays a more cool and tranquil nature, and possibly even reflect the deities' deep association with water and the sky and other deep concepts beyond human understanding!
