Was an enjoyable game to watch while under Covid quarantine. Lots and lots of mistakes by the Ultramarines player which have already been mentioned here but hey, gorgeous models, beautiful terrain, excellent sportsmanship (ignore the comments about the 3 fives, that was clearly just a paying attention mistake) and good fun watching a game when we are not allowed to congregate to play on our own.
Rerolls happen before modifiers are applied. So the Auspex Scan volley would have only rerolled the 1s and 2s (as 3s are hits at that point), and after the rerolls the -1 is applied so the 3s and lower would be removed. Same with your Extermination Protocols and MWBD combo. The 1s and 2s are rerolled (as they are misses at that point) and after the rerolls, all the 2s get the +1 to become hits.
They've been changing the "re-roll failed" to just "re-roll hit rolls", so with updated Guilliman they could have re-rolled every die if they wanted. Funnily enough, you are correct about EP with MWBD. It says "re-roll failed", not "you can re-roll", so 2s would need be re-rolled. Have to keep an eye open for that.

Nice match - I'm just wondering, though.. With the early ambush from the Destroyers, rather than waste their firepower taking out a single lone character, would it not have been better to target the marine squad on that side of the board instead..? Think about it - that _one_ squad was able to effectively stonewall the Immortals for the entire game.. However, between Extermination protocols, -3/4 armour, plus D3 per shot, there's a VERY good chance he could've wiped the squad; or, at least neutered them to the point they were effectively a non-factor! Nah Guillimans reroll aura is can reroll HITS not FAILED HITS the difference being that u can reroll shots that would have missed due to the negative modifiers
The guy playing the ultramarines needs to check the rules again, just from the army showcase he has a bunch of mistakes: You can't have 2 warlord traits on the same character, Guillimans warlord trait allows infantry and bike to do heroic intervention while within 6" of the warlord not making 6" interventions; also you can put Guilliman in a Super-Heavy auxiliary detachment, no need to have a Supreme command detachment.
Space marine drop pods only. They literally have a rule called Matched Play that lets them ignore the Strategic Reserves rule in Matched Play games. GW pandering to their SM fanboys. Go figure 😒
Can you use rapid fire? it says to use it "at the start of the shooting phase" Auspex says a unit may fire as though it was the shooting phase, in which case you have missed the start of the firing phase. Ah, i see others have picked up on this already.
Great battle report. Visually immersive. Would have preferred those grav devs to drop more mid board instead of going for wraiths to take advantage of their range and deadly AP vs the infantry units and away from counter attack. Thanks for sharing.
It's always extremely pleasant to come back to a good SS82 bat rep, with his nice and classic lists to rest from all the vicious, top-meta, barely legal shit I play with constantly on my local ETC style tournaments here in Russia. I've been to dozens of tournaments since the start of 8th edition and I swear - I've NEVER seen anyone play an army like you guys do. Everyone here always brings their A-game to tournaments and thats irritating)
I'm not personally very fond of this mission type. It encourages spending the game just camping on objectives. It also means there is often little chance for an exciting turn around towards the end of the game. One player tends to get too far ahead in points. I prefer tactical objectives.
Another great BR as am Ultramarine player I always love to see them feature on the channel. Like every game it's about timing but still like you said if the game went on Ultramarines would have been victorious. I still love my tactical marines in razorbacks with twin assault cannons from devastated to tactical doctrine its hugely powerful
Since when does veil of time give +2 to charge? It gives re-roll advance and charge and always fight first. Gulliman should not have made that charge. Don’t know how you boys missed that even with double checking the cards! Awesome batrep though, keep up the great work!
Show reanimation rolls, getting 14 or 15 back in a turn is way above average and a bit ridiculous lol. Tell me reanimation isnt broken lol. Also seems like lots of rule omissions, forgetfulness, etc. Did James use signum on a devastator when they fired first turn? Love the armies, and tables as always, would like to see more of dice rolls that affect the game.
I haven't even started to watch the video but from all the comments right now I'm guessing the Ultramarines lose because of the plethora of rules mistakes they are about to do in the video. EDIT: Yeah, after skimming through the video the Ultramarines 100% deserve to have lost this. So many rules mistake. It still looks like a fun game to watch though, so gonna watch the whole thing nonetheless. But that is still without a doubt a deserved loss from the Ultramarines. The player should take another look at his rule books.
You're a good sport, Luke. If I had lost a squad of warriors like that I'd just have a sickly feeling in my stomach at the sight of such firepower from such a normal unit. It would be a sickly cheesey smell that would make my stomach churn with at the seeming unfairness. Not seen the rest of the game yet but am rooting for your revenge.
These reports are awesome, but your camera work needs to evolve a bit. All the time up close on table, unless you keep burning your eyes on screen - you kinda lose where is what. Panning shots showing whole table everynow and then would improve these so much.
James is a very good tactician, superiorbto youin this battle report, but he is sadly unlucky.. I am very sad when i see so good players being as much unlucky.

it can only be used in that phase (e.g. you cannot use a
Stratagem that says ‘Use this Stratagem in the Shooting
phase’ to affect a unit that is Shooting ‘as if it were
the Shooting phase’). For the purposes of this FAQ,
Overwatch attacks are not considered to be attacks made
as if it were your Shooting phase
Minus 1 to hit on those tomb blades would have stopped those 3's rolled from the hell-blasters early in the game.
Nah Guillimans reroll aura is can reroll HITS not FAILED HITS the difference being that u can reroll shots that would have missed due to the negative modifiers
Kim Reddick it’s changed.
@@Black_Blow_Fly really, why would they change it, its looked like they've been updating everything to hits not failed hits
Kim Reddick that’s what I meant.
Im so confused! can you deep strike turn 1 now or not?! I play tau, and it says manta strike any turn, but does the FAQ override that?
Space marine drop pods only. They literally have a rule called Matched Play that lets them ignore the Strategic Reserves rule in Matched Play games. GW pandering to their SM fanboys. Go figure 😒
@@greysonrunyon4145 well it was also to make it so the drop pod wasn't a completely useless model.
Can you use rapid fire? it says to use it "at the start of the shooting phase"
Auspex says a unit may fire as though it was the shooting phase, in which case you have missed the start of the firing phase.
Ah, i see others have picked up on this already.
Great battle report. Visually immersive. Would have preferred those grav devs to drop more mid board instead of going for wraiths to take advantage of their range and deadly AP vs the infantry units and away from counter attack. Thanks for sharing.
Hey. Am I going mad? I can't find the second half of any of the S8 stuff on the channel apart from the first admech game.
On the Plus channel strikingscorpion82plus.tv/
It's always extremely pleasant to come back to a good SS82 bat rep, with his nice and classic lists to rest from all the vicious, top-meta, barely legal shit I play with constantly on my local ETC style tournaments here in Russia. I've been to dozens of tournaments since the start of 8th edition and I swear - I've NEVER seen anyone play an army like you guys do. Everyone here always brings their A-game to tournaments and thats irritating)
How are you deep striking turn one?
Wraiths are a 4+ armour save so the grav shots should only have been damage 1 not d3
the Devostators with drop pod and Chronus weren't mentioned in the pregame
Those poor destroyers should have had a 5+ invuln from the chronometron on the cryptek! (Unless I'm missing something)
'Twas the new Cryptek with Canoptek Cloak. Makes them more speedy, but you take instead of the Chronometron.
Didn't you use this map for the Tyranids vs Tau?
Great game.
1:37:20 Triple 5s my ass
Don’t tomb blades have a natural -1 modifier to be hit?
Courage and honour indeed brother!
Nice matchup, reminds me of Damnos...-_-
I'm not personally very fond of this mission type. It encourages spending the game just camping on objectives. It also means there is often little chance for an exciting turn around towards the end of the game. One player tends to get too far ahead in points. I prefer tactical objectives.
Awesome battle!
First! Or am I?
Definitely first. Though I proudly claim second!
@@medicinestickman7213 gutted for the Smurfs. Hate the necrons.
Beast of a game!
I prefer to run 5 Destroyers and a Heavy destroyer, since Heavy Destroyers are cheaper than Destroyers now and units 2 of 4* Wraiths.
1:37:17 triple five.... Lol
He rolled 4 dice, one was out of view of the camera, that one was likely the third 5
Would be anice match James' Ultramarines lead by Marneus Calgar against Luke's Blood Angels lead by Mephiston.
Since when does veil of time give +2 to charge? It gives re-roll advance and charge and always fight first. Gulliman should not have made that charge. Don’t know how you boys missed that even with double checking the cards! Awesome batrep though, keep up the great work!
With the grave amp strat he could have rerolled the damage and killed 2 wraiths
That ending was so anti climatic, for someone who is new to 40k, that roll to end that games seems like a totally random game deciding factors..
12:00 thank me later 😁
Nice report but the hand of dominion caused 4 damage, not d6?!
James, Lieutenant is pronounced "lef-tenant". You're a Brit, not an American! 😛😂
Its a french word. Brits should make their own word thats spelled : Leftenant! :D
@@leerberg it is a French word, but it's pronounced "leftenant" here regardless. 😛
Cool thing... The narrators voice sounds like Korg from Thor Ragnarok.
"Yep. In the bag in the fridge!"
Oh gameday came early this morning XD
Let's see if the angry toasters can roast blueberries today!
I haven't even started to watch the video but from all the comments right now I'm guessing the Ultramarines lose because of the plethora of rules mistakes they are about to do in the video.
EDIT:
Yeah, after skimming through the video the Ultramarines 100% deserve to have lost this. So many rules mistake.
It still looks like a fun game to watch though, so gonna watch the whole thing nonetheless.
But that is still without a doubt a deserved loss from the Ultramarines. The player should take another look at his rule books.
Triple five on guilliman eh? When it was a blatant 2 fives and a one. And James made two saves. Kinda cheap eh scorpion?
Saw the same thing lol
He rolled 4 dice, one was out of view of the camera, that one was likely the third 5. Dunno how you missed that...
and can reroll al damage for grav weapons read your card...……. could of killed 2 wraiths
Wraiths have a 4+ normal save so it should have only been 1 damage anyway.
You're a good sport, Luke. If I had lost a squad of warriors like that I'd just have a sickly feeling in my stomach at the sight of such firepower from such a normal unit. It would be a sickly cheesey smell that would make my stomach churn with at the seeming unfairness. Not seen the rest of the game yet but am rooting for your revenge.
emperors sword should be flat 80 wounds
Primaris Filth... also you clearly rolled a 1 during your "triple 5's" roll against Gurly man, not that it really mattered >XD
These reports are awesome, but your camera work needs to evolve a bit. All the time up close on table, unless you keep burning your eyes on screen - you kinda lose where is what. Panning shots showing whole table everynow and then would improve these so much.
They say Tau players are the weebs but... Yeah Ultramarines players lawl
Those praetorians shouldn’t have had an invun from the cryptek
YORKSHIRpuddin Triarch Praetorians do not have the dynasty keyword and so would not benefit from the buff.
Joseph Makarov ah right, didn’t realise the chronomatron only worked for infantry. Not a fan of Praetorians so never use em
Hmm nor did I, learn something everyday.... I've used it before on my Triach stalker, an equally overpriced unit but cheating none less! 😳
James is a very good tactician, superiorbto youin this battle report, but he is sadly unlucky.. I am very sad when i see so good players being as much unlucky.
Is James scared of camera?
I love watching these guys but these guys should know the rules its not like they are newbs they play alot of games
Worth noting they play a lot of games with multiple different armies. A lot of stuff to keep straight
@@mattm9470 true but again rules are in front of them .... it's not like they were playing these armies for the first time ? yes playing a lot of games and being on camera makes it more nervous. at least they could of edited it with a note saying gullimon couldnt take a 2nd WL trait .... and it all would of been better
@@johnontto3863 certainly agree we should strive for rules accuracy, but if one isnt aware that they're breaking a rule then they are not checking the wording of the rule, regardless of the rules being in front if them or lost in the Warp.
An unfortunate reality of the video format is that this battle report is filmed and edited and served as a product before hundreds of people get to pick it apart second by second. Mistakes are stuck for all to see.
That said, I respect your higher standards for the presentation of rules, and hope your personal games of 40K are not the rules dumpster fire that my games are. 👍
@@mattm9470 thank you.... its just if I pay for a service to support a channel I don't like seeing a lot of mistakes. these are LEAGUE games so they count for something and I hate seeing mistakes that can could potentially swing one way or the other..EXAMPLE Luke should of known that Praetorians do not get any benefits due to not having the dynasty keyword including reanimation bonuses or the 5++ he has played this list a lot since it never changes...…. Again a simple edit note can make people understand.. People who see these and think well ok they did it in the video means they can do it in real games ??? These are meant to be fun and awesome and good for people to use as tools to enhance their games...
The way you film these batreps make me dizzy.
You have by far the best looking terrain and tables. Zoom out and show the board and models off more. Easier to see where everything is, what it’s doing and enjoy the scenery. You can’t enjoy all that hard work if your flying all over the place and zoomed in on a few models at a time... please stop 😭
When the devastator fires they don’t get that -1 to hit for heavy weapons because of scions of guilliman.
