  • This video is just me sharing how I usually harvest and process Juniper Berries for skin care and scalp care uses. I hope its both helpful and encouraging.
Juniper trees and shrubs are pretty dominant here in central Oregon but in parts of the world that they aren't available I'm sure you can find them in health food stores of online.
I would suggest people look up the benefit and nutritional compounds provided by Juniper. Its an intense list that's pretty interesting.
I like to grow and use as many of my own fresh ingredients as I can so this is one of my staples. This way I know there aren't chemicals or inhumane practices involved. I hope you enjoy the video and are inspired.

Thanks for showing the trees and how big the trees are. I am hoping to sprout some seeds and grow these.

They require two years to germinate. Two seasons of freezing temperatures. Good luck.

@@bradleymiller437 I was up at Big Bear Lake in southern California. I went into the forest and was surprised when I realized there are juniper trees growing there. Elevation is around 7,000-9,000 feet. I tasted the juniper berries, good strong flavor. I think I will try and propagate some some of the cuttings instead of trying to sprout the seeds. There are quite a few videos by people who grow these for bonsai and they have a good success rate by rooting the cuttings.

Here I thought the junipers from the store were different variety because there were not the light blue as the tree ones. Guess i will get some from the forest to make gin.

Well Im in Oregon, we pretty much have Winter and Summer with a two week spring and fall. I always harvest right when spring is turning to summer. I dont think it matters a whole lot as long as their fat and round. These were also light blue and dark blue, It might make a difference if its a shrub versus a tree. : )

Do you grind up the dried berries to put in salve or shampoo?

It depends on what Im using them for but yes, usually. The smaller particles allow for more nutrient infusion.
