Parcels Speak On Their Self-Titled Debut Album

  • Sometimes the five packages are mistaken as a French band, ‘Par-sells’. Or as beachy surf bums. Or as the guys sent direct mail from the seventies. What the band Parcels are, considering they recently created their self-titled debut album, is a superlative still very much undefined. What is confirmed is that they are Australian, deceptively not as beach going as the Beach Boys, and that they’re unusually committed, from their production to their visual world. Parcels decided to self-produce their album, in true Parcels style, undertaking a monumental task with extremely minimal experience. There's a distinct inkling that this is one of those bands that only come around once every 30 years.

Very interesting interview, I really liked how the interviewer (even if he is very NY style) tried to improvise questions based on the conversation and not on the typical stereotypes of "what inspired you to write X song", well done on his part. As for the band's awkwardness, I think it's part of their charm and probably the reason why the conversation didn't flow that much on that setup as opposed to having the interview in a bar having some drinks maybe.

I'm not sure if it's them being a bit awks or if the interviewer doesn't know much about the group but I didn't feel any spark from this interview. I mean he called them 'the parcels' so that just shows he probs didn't do that much research. But I can also see they are a quiet bunch and weren't being very talkative back. I still love their music but I was thinking they would be a more lively/chatty group based off their live performances. x

I actually dont mind the interviewer. He seems genuinely interested and these interviews are just so hard. I talk from experience.

I had the chance of interview them over the phone when they released Live Vol. 1 and I can tell you they love to talk a lot about their work. The problem truly is the interviewer. He is so bad at his job... Such a waste to have one of the greatest bands in the world right now in the studio and do such a poor interview.

The guys are kind of introverts and the interviewer seems not to be an experienced one.

I would think with Maison Kitsuné producing their album (they pretty much produced all the French touch including Daft Punk, Phoenix and so on), they did not have to make a garage clip all by themselves. The influences are pretty obvious and they are pretty good ones from Fleetwood to Supertramp. These influences are not pop either. Great international band in the making.

04:00 You don’t need to talk bad things about a band to praise another. It was wrong in many ways. GVF is huge and You are so unprofessional!
