You probably kow this by this point, but the writers couldn't show the Bangel reunion because BtVS and AtS were on different networks as of the start of the respective seasons of the year this season aired. The higher up wouldn't allow it. The best they would do was to allow the characters to talk about them. The writers hands were tied by legalize the higher up wouldn't allow to be untied.

Giles was drawing 2 paychecks (Watcher and librarian) for at least 2 and a half years. Then Buffy he him back on the Watcher payroll in season 5 WITH back pay. So he has bank, believe that.

@@domie It's interesting to me, it's like a social experiment. That such an initially controversial case as a relationship that started between a teenager and a much older man (including the background he had) who always was patronizing like a father she never had. It's almost as if she's trying to compensate by trying to have a father figure in her life. And the way he was always hot and cold with her, we can't be together, no we should, this way sticking this girl to himself more at the same time understanding that it is not good for her. While being the happiest man after the moment he had sex with her.
BUT if you present all this as smth good, romantic, like a "meant to be" romantic storyline, so it is approved by the plot, what else may be sold as a good thing? Live social experiment.
@@Junejane4 I've always been a Bangel shipper but I never thought of them as endgame material,for the simple fact that he's immortal and she's not. And I can't really say anything against the arguments of all the anti-Bangel shippers...they're usually all valid. But I have a *HUGE* problem when an anti-Bangel shipper is,at the same time,a Spuffy shipper.Because he too is much older,he too is immortal,he's often toxic as fuck and the highest rank of relationship I could accept between those 2 is an alliance turned to _friendship_ from S5 on and expecially during S7. But a _romantic_ relationship?!?! *NO FUCKING WAY!!!* 🙅♂ If we wanna be objective the only potential long lasting boyfriend material Buffy has ever had was Riley,the problem is that they were *never* on the same page. Also,because Buffy is the Slayer,I honestly don't think she _can_ handle a long lasting relationship with a regular human. She either needs to become immortal and have a relationship with Angel after they've _both_ matured a little bit more(or having him becoming mortal,even if we already saw that would be more difficult to handle)or to stay single.
@@Nicamon I don't see it as endgame either. But that's not the point. Shipping is the point and what they do to create a positive image. This show likes to moralize but in this case they either ignore controversial issue or even try to make it look romantic.
The simplest example is when he told her that he fell in love with her when he first saw her. And she was what 14 or 15? And every time when he hides in some dark corner and watches her from there. But they tell you that it's romantic, that it's what love is. And immature teenage brain may buy it. So what else will they buy if they are told it's ok?
It only proves me that 1. the author actually doesn't give a damn about morals, despite trying to play this card only their likes matter, nothing else. 2. Some people are easily convinced of new moral ethics that is created "as we go". So it IS a social experiment eventually. Which, by the way, is very popular these days.
Fun fact: she hates this kind of alcoholic liquid and it is actually real alcohol. So her facial expressions are real in this scene
The networks wouldn’t let them crossover with Angel, but if she never mentioned him or went to see him it would stand out as pretty strange and out of character.
Dark Horse published a self contained issue of the Buffy the Vampire Slayer comic which chronicled Buffy and Angel's get together. I believe that comic is considered canon.
7:09 They did because Buffy is on a different network (From the start of season 6) So they don't want to promote a show on another network, They'll still talk about the other show but at least right now not crossover.
I am actually pretty glad, you enjoyed the Trio as potential villains. I felt the same, and still after many, many rewatches hate that I enjoy them. It's so fascinating how most people underestimate their evilness, and I can't help but love that about them. As villains they are one of my favorites^^
I don't know if I've ever seen a reactor so into the trio (I mean, so far at least!). I won't judge!

@@domieI got a huge hoot out of the trio (for a while) when I watched the episodes originally. I’m always surprised that so many reactors don’t like them from the get go. It’s so silly when Warren alone with his living doll creating capabilities could be a millionaire practically overnight.

I love that you like the Trio for what they are : a refreshing addition to an otherwise heavy (beginning of a) season. I just don't get why people (and especially reactors just discovering the show) get problems/frustration/annoyance or whatever for them to be there just for getting a bit of fun and not being taken seriously.
Giles got his salary retroactive from the month he was fired. I think that's where the money came from.

Drunk Buffy was in "Beer Bad" where she definitely drank too much beer...

Angel and Buffy were on competing networks at the time. Any crossovers this season are sadly only in words on both shows.
Buffy and Angel were on different networks at this point hence why they cannot go to each other.
The fact the the council doesn't pay their slayer anything always makes me mad. They can pay their watchers but not the one slayer?
As messed up as that is, I’m more mad that half her friends are living at her house and not paying rent!
@@MrTjonke Sadly, Buffy had them over a barrel in Checkpoint, she might've insisted on it then. Hindsight is 20/20.
Even if you have seen all of it some people still have issues with how future episodes work because of how people could eventually watch videos. You'd be surprised how much of a mess it could be. It seems easier to just only write about moments up until that point. But then you get comments of people critisizing opinions that you don't actually have of the full arc of the Buffyverse, but only have until that moment in the series. I recently ran into a bully who had some very nasty things to say to me regaurding that. It can all become messy.
This episode, upon my first time watching, was when I realized what S6 was going. Buffy's struggles with depression effecting her day to day life and lasting more than one episode, as well as creating a dark atmosphere of a series wasn't common in 2001. Originally, S6 wasn't well liked because of that, but people respect and like it more with the passage of 13 years.

And I sm so jazzed for Firefly! Since it's so short, I would suggest another Whedonverse show to follow - Dollhouse. It's also shortish, only 2 seasons. And the premise is 😬😬😬 but it's aware that it is, that's kind of the point. Plus, Eliza Dushku! And we all miss our Faith, admit it!
For years, I found it annoying that we didn't get to see the scene where Buffy sees Angel, but then I figured it probably would have played out with Buffy admitting she was pulled out of heaven, followed by her finally allowing herself to break down and cry.
And since SMG was so great at doing emotional scenes in this series, I still feel like I missed something.
Not Whedon related, but I highly recommend The Orville.

Without doubt The Trio are so irritating at this point, especially Andrew. I get exactly what people saying about them at this point, as they are not lending to the seriousness of the story lines it almost seems too comedic, but we will see. As if Buffy didn't have enough to cope with, now we have these goons messing with her life. Spike bringing Buffy to the poker game for kittens brings some light relief. All in all I don't think it was a good episode.
I might ask this in the livestream tomorrow....
BAngel - who thinks she told him what she told Spike? Her afterlife wasn't hell, but perfect peace & contentment - even better than he once found in her arms. I'm leaning in that direction.
What did he share? Being trapped in an old-folks home is half as bad as a hell dimension.... how to readjust to life on Earth? Did Angel's advice just leave Buffy in a mental whirlwind & push her towards Spike?
