Glad to see Nate doing better. I started climbing in 2003. Now, climbing is what i got into to keep myself from drinking and partying. It basically made me straight edge.. BUT i was always a heavy guy and i was obsessed with slimming down, climbing light, not eating. That's when i got into all types of salts from Adderall, bath salts, etc... I dropped 50 lbs and started climbing strong.. but now i was addicted to uppers. Then what happened? Now i started to get too edgy, and after climbing i was too wired to do anything so it led me back to drinking again to offset it. What happened during my first injury? Of course i couldn't climb and since i couldn't climb i gave a fuck about my health and became an alcoholic... gained all the weight back. Between all that i was arrested a few times, i quit climbing for a while and got into pills (because there was no climbing around where i was). I was addicted to oxy's, roxy's, coke, and other opiods. It wasn't till 2013 that i straightened my life out again moving to chicago and getting back into climbing. Around that time i was working at different gyms, temp jobs, and living in a half way house, too. I'd relapse but i'd get back to climbing again within a month. Now my life has completely turned around since i live in my own house with wife, kid, dog, and climbing wall in my garage. Sober, too.
Amazing story and climbing. Appreciate the transparency and humbleness!! I climb in Boone, predominately bouldering and the level of climbing in this video and those on your team is incredible. Nate’s story and journey was just as amazing and so glad to hear he’s on the other side, stronger👊
