The first shift when launching is so smooth and cool. Shifting first gear from mid RPM then second shifting higher RPM to redline looks perfect computer transmission shifting. Well done Mercedes Benz
I think I know why the 1st-to-2nd shift happened so early: modern turbocharged engines are designed to provide great amounts of power and torque relatively low in the rev range, so high revs wouldn't really give an acceleration advantage. Add in the fact that the small electric motor helping a Mild-Hybrid engine (like this one, the M176) fills up the gaps helping the crank rotate faster until the Turbo(s) really start to kick in and there's the answer.
I love our, 580 its the best car I've ever owned. The E suspension is simply extraordinary in all respects, in fact, I also think its as good if not even better than the 63's in the handling category and, of course, it is simply extraordinary in the comfort dimension. 5.3 sec to 100k is also ridiculously fast for something this big and heavy. My E43 is faster and handles much sharper but, comfort-wise they are on different planets! Unfortunately, US versions are limited 210 kph.
I believe you can change the limit to 250k using a diagnostic computer. Not too sure but did it on our W212 E350. It was simpler than I expected it to be.
It short shifts from 1st to 2nd because of traction control limiting wheel spin. X166 behaves the same way, turn off traction control and you get a different result.
@@AbdulrahmanAkbar yes thats bcs of too much torque!! this GLE doesn’t have an amg transmission so its limited, that way it doesnt get destroyed like audis
Why is that a problem ? The difference between gears 1-2 isn't as large as with other gearboxes, and the shift clearly puts the engine in the powerband ? If this was a naturally aspirated car I'd agree with you, but since this is a big turbocharged V8 with small-ish turbochargers favouring torque, it makes sense.
Its not a problem, it's a limiter to protect the gearbox... It's programmed like that... You dont need to rev a big, turbocharged v8 to redline in 1st gear.
Bro you need to add some white noise towards the end of the video, on these short videos the whole screen at the end of the video littered with End Cards blocking all the view and there is no way to disable that and see the video behind it.

Love to see the V8 in non AMG cars.. now let’s see it back in the E class as the E560!
560SEL 😍
@@koumagnonable That's the S-Class of its day, the correct nameplate for the E 560 is "560E"! 😉
I agree with you. I like the cars which have strong engine but not a special/sport version
Wont happen, everything is turning to 4 cylinder hybrids these days

Crazy how turning torque limiter into proudness..
Are you proud about your rev limiter?

Really fast for a 7 seater!
*Beautiful shapes of the GLS*
I love this benz 🔥🔥👌
First gear shift on 4500 RPM?
Just awesome !

Brilliant!
I like this new format also
2 launches 2 short shifts ...probably is possible around 5.0 sec
The first gear is set like that no matter what you do, even in manual transmission mode.
Torque limiter for the gearbox

Has it now inherited the BMW problem in short shifting into second in doing 0 to 100?

It shifts too early in the first gear.

Thats one ugly merc... what are they doing with the design of the newer merc cars...
