Ahhhh, those dance clubs I told you about were the early daaaaze of nightclubbing, and if I didn't go home with a guy, my consolation prize was getting a mixed kebab and chilli sauce.
After the dance days I went on to rock club's where in the early 90s was gorgeous guys with long hair headbanging along to Metallica or Megadeth swishing their long hair in all directions trying to impress us girlie's...then I moved into promotion and management of bands and was very 3 sheets to the wind one night on the guest list at a Glen Matlock gig as he was playing and doing a book signing and as I was standing next to him (being his PA at a records fair on a week prior) and not paying attention he moved the table by a few inches and I missed the table in putting the wine down, missed my footing and fell over him and soaked his back with red wine with my left arm and as he was sitting and my right arm went straight through his legs and my face ended up in his crotch lol 😆 luckily he was wearing black that night and I we both nervously laughed and I made my excuses and dove a rossthe standing area then hiding the corner of The 100 Club for the rest of the night.
Being on the road with bands, etc, for 16 years, I've got a ton of nightclubs/venue adventures.
I do miss the dance clubs though, dancing along to Primal Scream's loaded and Robin S on a huge screen and getting squiffy on Archers and lemonade, smelling of Giorgio Beverly Hills whilst the men stunk of Kourous and Jazz was definitely what made the nightclubs in the late 80s and early 90s the best. Xxx🙏🏻🤗✨️👏🏻🎉🥳

Oooh those sticky nightclubs, lots of slow dancing and dry ice!! Here in Dublin, once the club ended at 3am, there were a few 'lock-ins', as they were called, which remained open until dawn. They were basically a wooden shack in a very run-down part of the city. You went over and tapped on the door to be let in. No music, just more booze and chatter. They had closed shutters on the windows as they were completely illegal! There was something thrilling in the anticipation of the police arriving! 😂

My club was The Safari Club ~ a jungle themed night club with light up risers for dancing. Smoke came out of the floor and ceiling ~ lots of palm trees and animals of the jungle in the trees and around the Club. Tons of strobe lights and many dark corners for bad behavior.
Great drinks, too. This was back in the '80's.
Many a night spent dancing/drinking the night away 🎉

My favourite indie club was all decked out in camouflage netting. They made cheap cocktails, and I always had a White Russian, which is mostly cream (I pretty much danced it off afterwards!).
There was a guy there who I kissed one night, and I went home thinking his name was Chris, and remembered him being tall, and having mousey short hair. It turned out his name was Rob, he was quite short and had longish dark hair 😂😂😂 We'd have a snog every now and then, but then go our separate ways! This happened for months! Nothing came of it, but I remember him being a good kisser! Oh, to be young again! I'd go back in a heartbeat.

Lol, acorns and oak leaves, Gemma. I have fond memories of a 4th grade teacher who went out of her way to make learning about California history (my state) way better than average. We learned to properly prepare, cook, and eat acorns like the indigenous peoples of our area did! (not that I remember how now...and I didn't care for the result either, though do kids ever like that kind of pastey stuff?) She also taught us how to incubate fertile eggs, candling them to see inside, and briefly getting to interact with the chicks that hatched before her farm friend took them away cus coops of chickens were not in the zoning laws at school.

All the different subcultures would come to finish their night off here, and each had their area in the tiny club to sit. You know, goths, rockers etc. I remember this guy with long black hair, who used to wear it sprayed straight up like a column, obviously I didn't go near him and he was a bit of an enigma 😮.. my friends coined the name Zig Zig for him (from the band Sigue Sigue Sputnik). Re: clubs: I didn’t start going to dance clubs until much later in life, so my stories are tame-BUT in my 20s I did have a work friend drag me out once to a club to see a band she liked (she had a crush on the lead guitarist-we all had a friend like that, I feel). Much of that night was a blur of dancing and doing shots, but I do remember it culminated with me chipping a tooth on a beer bottle and both of us arriving to work the next day, on time but still very drunk. It was across the street from our college dorm in Truro, Nova Scotia, Canada. In the late 1990’s I and many others left a part our livers behind there. The clubbing experience that comes to mind -- and this is a little Adult-themed, sorry -- was back when I first went to this place called The Chamber in the early 90s here in Atlanta. It was a Goth/Industrial-Music club that I'd heard about and I was new on the scene, so I checked it out with some friends starting from the age of 19 or so.
Anyway, the funniest memory for me is that one night, early on, I was wandering around the club and had noticed people going in and out of these doors around the far edges of the dancefloor. I was a curious sort, so I eventually decided to see what people were doing there and went in through one of the doors, myself...
AND WHAT A SIGHT I DID SEE! I walked into this small room with a small stage surrounded by a bunch of folding chairs (maybe 30 or so?). There was only about 10 people in the room, but on the stage was a seated woman, barely clothed, with clothespins stuck all over her body (pinching her skin). And there was a man beside her just slowly adding more and more clothespins.
Now, I was VERY naive and not very worldly at that point in my life, so I had NO IDEA that I'd basically just walked in on some 'k!nk scene' (which was apparently what the side rooms in the club were for -- LOL). I stood there, probably gawking, utterly confused as to what I was watching. And then slowly backed out, still completely unsure of what I'd just witnessed.
It's hilarious to look back on now, as I've seen 'much more' since, but at the time, the Sweet Summer Child that I was, was just like: 'What is the world is going on?!'. I think even a friend of mine asked what I'd seen once I'd returned to the dancefloor and I was just in shock and didn't know what to say. It blew my little mind!
That was a VERY interesting nightclub. No longer around, but definitely interesting! LOL

In my early twenties I was taken to a gay bar in the Atlanta underground; it had a transvestite show. I might have gone to one other that was more low-key. Strangely, I never again went to any bars or clubs of any kind, since my husband-to be just took me to nice restaurants. It wasn’t what I was expecting out of life, but being well and truly run after was so novel, so impressive, that I was persuaded. 49 years ago. True story.

I take that back. But the circumstances were not the same. I was attending a Star Trek convention in Chicago in the ‘80’s and befriended a BNF, Leslie Fish. She had an all-female band that performed mostly raunchy songs, and they were playing at a local semi-gay semi-bar, the Mountain Moving Coffee Shop. Located in a converted house, there was dancing and live music but no alcohol. I went with a group of fans to hear the performance. They sang some truly scandalous songs such as “The good ship Venus”, and one about the King of England and the King of France. It was quite an experience. Sad to say, that coffee shop is now gone. The no-alcohol rule was probably part of that demise-these days you’d expect beer and wine, at least. But they also provided a refuge for single mothers and their children, which was ostensibly the reason. Ah, Mountain Moving Coffee House, of nostalgic memories
