  • Sena tradicinė žemaitiška dūnininkų šienapjūtės daina iš Šilėnų dvaro, Kuršėnų valsčiaus, Šiaulių krašto, dainuoja Rytis Ambrazevičius. This is an old hay-reaping folk song in Southern Samogitian (Dūnininkai) dialect from the surroundings of Šiauliai in Western Lithuania (Samogitia).
    Translation of the lyrics:
They've been reaping hay in the meadow,
The dear hay in the meadow...
And they've been reaping me, the clover, together with the hay too
They've been piling the hay up in the meadow,
    And the green lady's mantles...
They've been piling me, the clover, up together with the hay too
They've been raking the hay in the meadow,
The dear hay in the meadow...
And they've been raking me, the clover, together with the hay
They've been carrying the hay in the meadow,
The dear hay in the meadow...
And they've been carrying me, the clover, too,
    Together with the hay...
    Žodžiai:
    Pjaun lankuoj šieną
    Pjaun lankuoj šienelį
    Pjaun ir moni dobilelį
    Su šeineliu drauge
    Vert lankuoj šeiną
    Žalias raskilieles
    Vert ir moni dobilelį
    Su šeineliu drauge
    Grieb lankuoj šieną
    Grieb lankuoj šienelį
    Grieb ir moni dobilelį
    Su šeineliu drauge
    Vež lankuoj šieną
    Vež lankuoj šienelį
    Vež ir moni dobilelį
    Su šeineliu drauge

Yes you can, perhaps the best way to learn a language not your own, would be to "immerse" yourself in that language by living or spending a lot of time with someone who speaks it and getting them to teach you. Also, Zemaitijan, the language of western Lithuania, is slightly different than Lithuanian itself and would be an interesting study if that's where your family came from. Zemaitija has always had an identity separate, although similar, to the rest of Lithuania, an important and very ancient part of the Grand Principality. Good luck with your search. Iki!(Bye!)
