I haven't been crocheting for too long, so maybe it's not my place to speak, but my #1 piece of advice for beginners trying to become more efficient is to get rid of the "wasted work" mindset. Every stitch is practice and valuable. You may end up making mistakes and needing to re-do work, but there's no such thing as a wasted stitch as long as it's lending itself to getting better at the craft 😁
As someone who's been crocheting for years, I can say you are absolutely correct. This is part of the reason I have no issue frogging my projects if I see I have no use for them anymore or I'm not in love with them anymore. What I love about crochet is the process. I adore the results but the the process that keeps me coming back so if frogging a project means I can continue creating, that's what I'll do. I used to get in my head about "wasted stitches" and how much further along in a project I would be if I hadnt've that mistake, but honestly if the mistake never happened I would never have learned how to avoid it and eventually become a better crocheter.
I have crocheted for 56 years. I'm still not fast and maybe getting slower by the day - age thing 😂. I use knife hold and pencil grip - depends on the size of what I'm working on. I keep a small container of talc to use on sweaty hands (I live in a hot humid climate ). And I keep a large glass bottle on the floor next to my chair and keep the skein I'm work with in it. Enjoying your video very much..
I tend to only rotate the hand that’s holding the hook in order to grab the yarn when I pull through, and I’d like to train my muscles to have both hands rotate to meet each other during the yarn over/pull through - both for splitting the effort between my hands/wrists, and because that makes it a hair faster.
Thanks for the tips! I'd say I'm okay with being slow when I enjoy the process. I usually crochet what I want and what I find interesting but sometimes there are gifts, like giant blankets, and that's interesting for 30 minutes max 😅 The (lack of) motivation is the main reason why I don't even try to crochet for selling: I don't like to make multiples of things (most of my projects are amigurumis). P.s. I love center pull yarn balls, but they hate me, so I got the "yarn barf" quite often! 😂
Oh! Hand sanitizer will temporarily reduce your moist hands. Which is cool, cause it goes away. But, not cool, cause it goes away. I also keep a microfiber/super absorbent towel close by to periodically dry my hands. I get the sweaty hands too and like the yarn drags and slows everything down. And it’s gross. So, I’m with you on.
20:36 FR if i dont watch anything while crocheting i see my self done w the project but i cant i really love to watch while crocheting ( like now ) and the subs i soo agree like i really wanna see to do or on clock or going svt but i need to pause the video 200 times and at the end i never do the thing i was doing thank u for the donate and putting information am so glad and thank u for the video 🤍

I always chain some extra at the start of a project and only really count in the second row, because stitches are soo much easier to count than chains
