I've been searching RUclips for hog fence builds and wondered why everyone else cut dados in their bottom piece of wood for water to collect instead of drilling holes. I think this is the way to go! I suppose a few drops of epoxy in those holes would prevent water from getting in there too. I think that's my plan; drill holes for the bottom piece of wood like you did, and sink in the fence wire in epoxy.
Some silicone caulk in those holes during construction would eliminate the water intrusion issue. And as long as you stained the wood every 4-5 years you wouldn't have to worry about moisture at all.
This gate was made using a hog panel which is 34” tall and the openings gradually get bigger from bottom to top. They go from 2 inches at the bottom 4 inches middle and 6” openings at the top. They do make other panels with smaller openings. Thanks for watching!
Looks really nice. Put a little spot of silicon caulk on the holes where the wire goes in to keep water from collecting in those. Quick & cheap fix.
Excellent idea thanks!
Good job man! With a little care, it’ll last 25 years ❤❤
You’re so impressive. Love, love, love the way you did that. 👏
Just my humble opinion, the “drilled hole” method looks the best. It’s cleaner not using excess material. Love it the best.
Definitely thinking doing dog just like this
Just what I was looking for, thank you!

Just stumbled on this. I'm considering a driveway gate with similar style, just beefier. Thanks for putting this together. Good video.
Awesome! Let us know how it turns out 😃

Nice job....
Very cool! Great job!
Good job man!
love the gate
Nice gate, one more off the honey do list.
Exactly! The list is long 😂
It looks nice but I’m pretty sure a good size hog would push through it.
Pigs probably tare that up
I want to do this for my front yard. How big are the bigger squares on this gate? I have a dachshund mix and Im worried she will escape

How did you screw it together ? 4 inch screws ?
Yes. I ran some 3” screws in at and angle around the corners. It’s held up very well so far.
