BF CFDEM N DEM 12fps

This is the CFD-DEM simulation of a blast furnace, a device heavily used for the production of hot metal. Typically, material is added to the furnace in layers, and hot blast is added through the tuyeres. The second snapshot shows a pure DEM simulation of the charging, using different models for the non-sphericity of the particle ("rolling friction model"). The third snapshot shows how the particle flow profile changes when multisphere (nonspherical) particles are used, as opposed to spherical particles. The shapes of these particle were extracted from laser scans.
