I agreed with all of then except for the bun. A messy bun is definitely a younger hairstyle than a slick and tight bun, in my opinion, which is purely based on my preference and nothing else lol
Yeah this was the only one i got wrong. I wonder if the two little bangs in the front and the the little ear pieces are dated. I still do the little ear pieces lol
I agree with everyone in the comments. The “hot” hairstyles are just the trends right now. There’s nothing wrong with the other looks they’re just not super trendy right now so they’re considered “old”
This video isn’t about “aging” this is about trends. Some of these “hot looks” look terrible on certain faceshapes. There is a difference between a style aging you and a style being dated. A hairstyle that ages you (like the title implies) has a cut or style that dosnt suit your faceshape or color washes you out. Yes these cuts are what’s in and trending but if you truly want to look younger (not just trendy) you need to make sure the cut and color actually suit your faceshape and skin tone. These shag cuts though super cute and trendy can make you look dramatic older if not suited to your face. All that layering can draw attention to facial features and cast shadowing where you don’t want it. Just a thought
From an "older" woman's POV (I'm 50). As a lot of people have commented, this is just what's trendy as opposed to aging. I've had the tight curls, the A-line Bob, the thick fringe, the thin wispy fringe, the tight pony, the looser pony, the side part, the middle part, the face framing layers, the scruffy layers, pretty much all of these hairstyles I've had at one time or another. And it's always been whatever happens to be in trend and suits my face shape. The ones considered aging will be back in trend soon enough, you'll see.
I think we should normalise women looking old and still be beautiful. I know this Video doesn't had the Intention to bring of this message, but its still giving me the "women shouldn't look old"
Why does everyone insist on defending Brad? Thinking aging is not beautiful IS the point of this video. The title says "These Hairstyles Are Aging You. STOP"
A lot of these have nothing to do with actually making you look younger. They’re just trends that are in right now. If anything the desperation to follow trends rather than finding your own style will age you just as much as anything else
I completely agree. Just imagine a 60 year old woman trying to dress in a crop top and wear her hair like this. She would look ridiculous and much older than she was. Instead, she could adopt a more classic/timeless style and hairstyle and she would look fabulous and much younger.
Exactly! As an older woman I stay well clear of many trends. Easy to end up looking like mutton dressed as lamb trying desperately to hold onto your youth. It helps that my look is more alternative maybe than going for a more conservative look.
Right? I had a middle part throughout my entire childhood and into my teen years and then people started making fun of middle parts. I eventually switched to a side part and now that's considered for "old people" 🤣
I feel like it was both, it was thought of as immature/middle school like and everyone wanted to switch to a side part as soon as they were allowed, to look cool but at the same time it was supposed to be aging once you're older
The problem is once you reach a certain age, following the youthful trends can actually age you because it looks like you're trying to look like a teenager when you're clearly older. I think the best way to age gracefully is to adopt a more classic/timeless look. And there is nothing wrong with looking older and like a mature woman. Besides many of the "hot" looks just looked sloppy and unkempt to me. The pulled back ponytails always look harsh to me, so I would never wear a pony like that. I prefer a softer more feminine look. Honestly, I can't stand current trends, so I just do my own thing.
@Sara D I'm with you. I know what doesn't suit my oval face shape and avoid them. I don't like the messy hair look because the wind just makes it look like a hay stack.
Yep, I don't think my style is super era specific. I take what I like from the past and present, and keep it moving. Honestly is fully embodying all the trends that usually leaves you feel cringe later.
I was thinking the same thing. I was glad he clarified this only applied to fake styled curls, not natural curls, but at the same time the 'not hot' one looks natural to me. The 'out of place' hairs kind of gives it away. They would have been laid down smooth if they were styled with a wand.
Our obsession with women's youth is really uncomfortable. Men are allowed to age while women have to constantly worry how to look the youngest as we possibly can. And the beauty industry is THRIVING because of it. Teen girls are buying anti-wrinkle creams and 20-year-olds are getting botox. It's freaky and so harmful for women.
Yep! People really shouldn’t be wearing anti wrinkle creams until at least 35-40, or not at all! I can’t believe the beauty industry has 15 year olds wearing anti wrinkle creams. It’s soooo disturbing. What’s next? Mom’s putting it on their babies? Ugh.
I’m not uncomfortable. Obsession with youth makes perfect sense. It’s instinctual, not forced, because child bearing. Teenagers buying anti wrinkle cream is hilarious to me - what a waste of money. 20 year olds getting Botox is less funny. Parents need to be educating their girls better.
i'm only 24 and pretty shocked by the amount i'm being indoctrinated by society to fear and dislike wrinkles, grey hair, sagging skin, sagging breasts etc. it's sooo toxic. if i have the luck and privilege to get older with good health i will be grateful
I suppose when you’re young like Brad, getting older is scary 🤣 it gets less scary as it happens to you and you realise it’s not as bad as we are led to believe. You lose some things physically but gain a lot of pluses mentally I think
A lady who worked at a university I was attending had the most amazing look: curly, silver bob and a fantastic all black ensemble and silver jewelry. She is my fashion icon and I aim to be even half as awesome when my hair goes grey (and the greys have started coming in, already). But like all fashion icons, it wasn't just the look itself but how she carried it. So flaunt your amazing grey self!
@@silvijab2016 Yeah no.. I went to highschool with a ballerina.. and believe me, the tighter bun aged her. I remember thinking how it didn't flatter her at all.. Messy buns give me college student in a coffee shop vibes.. Hair clipped back is" busy mom"
I personally think you just chose looks that are considered “in” not what looked better. Just because a cut is current does not mean it makes you look younger.
Yeahhh, nooo. Most of people want to look young, light, fresh and full of energy. They can still be 50, 60, 70 and celebrate their age, but still look young or want to look young. Making yourself look older is just not hot. A 25-year-old girl that looks like a tired 35-year-old woman with an outdated look? Nope, thanx. Nobody wants this.
@@kinga6606 says you... Trends change literally all the time, so if someone finds a look that suits their face well that they absolutely love they don't have to change just to "keep up with the times." Plus, trying too hard to look like a teen makes you look exactly like you're trying too hard to look like a teen. If anything it makes you look even older.
@@samiam858 I am not talking about trends. I am talking about how people always try to look younger and not older. You didnt get it. Also, I'm not talking about trying to look like a teen. You got it all mixed up. read again.
Anyone who has asymmetric features on their face should proooobably go for a side part or something that is off-centered. As someone with a crooked nose… a dead center middle part only makes it more noticeable.
Wow yes, this is such a good point!! I had multiple eye surgeries as a toddler and it's noticeable they aren't symmetrical. I did the centre part for a long while and it just was not flattering whatsoever. A more off-centre or side part has been my saving grace and I will side part my hair forever!
Definitely, I've had a brain tumor and pretty much half my face looks a little different (sort of saggy) after the surgery. If I part in the middle, I feel like Quasimodo. A side part hides my scar, and it does not emphasize the asymmetry.
Thank you for posting this comment. I have been trying to wear my hair center parted, and I inevitably wear it half up or put hair combs in or something. Today, after reading this comment, I parted my hair on the side and put some soft curls in it. I wore it down and it look sooo much better on me! I can't believe the difference. I actually wore my hair down and realized what I wasn't liking about my hair wasn't my haircut at all, but the part! I also don't have a super symmetrical face, so I agree that the middle part was just emphasizing that.
Why is aging seen as a tragedy instead of a blessing? All women are beautiful. The experience and wisdom that comes from aging is something to revere, not fear. ❤️
For most of these, the real answer is "it depends" because we all have different natural hair textures, different style preferences and different face shapes. It's not one size fits all. I especially disagree with the thumbnail.... A sharp bob looks amazing on Taylor, probably her most iconic look. It goes so well with her facial features.
RIght!! I know someone with that haircut and it makes her look so iconic and cool; it def makes her stand out. Literally the first thing I thought when I saw that thumbnail was "I hope she never sees this" ;(((
Brad darling, you of all people know that people with a rounder face shape cannot wear a center part, all it does is make the face look wider, which I definitely do not want!
As a hairstylist of 20 Years, growing out the shag/wolf cut mullet situation is GONNA BE A NIGHTMARE growing out all them damn layers. Good luck and may tha force be with ya!
Yeah, as someone in their 30s, that hairstyle wouldn't look good on me, or someone my age. It's definitely suited for a younger demographic. I don't mind a lot of layers in my hair (I have type 2a-2b hair so layers help) but not that many, and not like that
I need help! My hair is basically the "not hot" for the blonde face framing layers, but I def don't want his "hot" option. I have a heart shape face, so I'm afraid of a middle part. Mine is slightly off centered, but not a hard side part. I've thought about a collarbone length lob, but idk if that's out already. I'm also OK with long hair, but idk if that's super dated too. Any suggestions?
Get real. This is all about how to get that clichè look in what is currently trending, NOT 'how to look younger'. Just because it looks hot on a celebrity does not mean they all will look hot on everyone. To look young is different for everyone depending on texture, facial features & ethnicities. Half the women on here are literally still young or look young because of plastic surgery & botox. But shit I suppose all middle age women should just slap on a current taylor swift or Selena Gomez style to look young again, how easy.
“Youthful” simply equates to health and vitality. Worrying unnecessarily about people discussing “aging” will make you old, prematurely. 😅 Relax. I’m 42 and I ain’t trippin.
Agree. Really dont think that Brad meant that it wasnt either - you can just do things to enhance one thing or another. Its not about not aging, or being proud of your age - its about "IF you want to look younger" and just about your hair, not acctually about your age.
Brad, dear.... I'm 55 and I can tell you, by the time you get to middle age you don't give a fiddler's fart about what others think regarding hairstyles and clothes etc. That's the best part about getting older, so liberating 😉
this only applies to white people honestly, some of the “not hot” ones are pretty popular in asia and they look gorgeous! definitely doesn’t make people look older
And as a black woman, we can rock ANY hairstyle and still look hot. This video was very controversial and very opinionated. What matters is if you feel pretty. 🥰
I love you and your channel Brad! One wish of mine is that people learn to embrace and love aging and find beauty and Grace in age and not try to stop it at all costs. 💕
I think this is about trends, not looking younger. Some of the hairstyles were a trend in the past and some are trends now (when I made this comment). Not all of these will look good on all face shapes. One hairstyle I disagree with is the bun J Lo had. I think that messy bun is more "in" nowadays than a slicked back/polished looking bun. A middle part isn't suitable for everyone.
Or "according to current trends" Because this is not a one size fits all kind of thing. A lot can go into choosing a haircut and hairstyle that works for you.
JLo's giant slicked back bun looks like it ages her if you ask me. A hard turn from all the looser, messier looks getting all the love in this video. Perfect-looking updos are, in my opinion, out of the current style. That picture could be from the early 2000s. But JLo doesn't age so she can do whatever tf she wants.
That is because only a young woman can get away with messy sexy hair in a professional setting. When you are older you are expected to be more refined and sleek rather than edgy
So, here's the thing: all of these "not hot" styles are just not in fashion anymore. But 10-15 years ago, they would all have been considered "hot." Although none of us can escape the "Karen" cut's stigma, I am willing to bet that soon enough, these "not hot" styles will be hot again.
The Karen haircut is actually one of my favorite hairstyles ever. Used to wear my hair like that years ago and it perfectly suited my face and hair type. I would love to go back to it, but instead I'm stuck with a more fashionable long bob, because of the Stigma associated with the 'Karen'. It's so annoying.
Exactly!!! Chunky highlights are back right now when a few years ago they were considered so outdated. Side parts and full fringes will be back give it two years.
Why does aging is scaring? It's part of life! We should accept it and embrace it! Love yourself and be thankful for the time you're still enjoying this world.
Okay, Brad, you're great but you DO realize you have a large older woman demographic and not all of us are afraid of being our age. I'm headed toward 61. I'm successful and happy, and I'll dye my hair whatever color I want and wear it how I am most comfortable with because...I didn't get to this age just to fear the social stare. I'm also heavily inked...people need to be happy in their skin and their styles, whatever they may be.
Center parts don't look good on everyone. I think Brad even said that in a past video (good luck to me trying to find it.) But...I mean all of this is super-objective and very straight-hair based. It's interesting to see hair trends change but can exhausting trying to keep up. Have fun with your hair and you'll be fine.
I have a longer face and curly hair, center part does NOT look good on me.... At all. Just no, side part gives my hair more volume and character while the middle part makes me look like a dufus haha.
I agree. I look awful in middle parts, both with bangs and without bangs, straightened or curly hair. I look horrible. I look a whole lot better with a side part, granted - like he said, I don't go all the way on the side just enough where its not in the middle. I think parts are just up to the person and what looks best on them. Some women look amazing with middle parts. That being said, I have two co- workers who do the middle part. I personally don't like it on their faces, but I know they do so its all what they like and what they don't.
i thought we got past this type of nonsense in the early 2000s. Let women be themselves and age as they are supposed to. Also these hairstyles that you're saying aren't hot were at the time the pics were taken. Trends change all the time and the things you're calling hot now won't be in a couple of years..
I have to disagree with the bun one, I felt it made Jen look WAAAY older than her years even. A little face framing when you have a bun is much more flattering to an older face imo
Personally I feel like the most "aging" style is one that doesn't flatter your features, bone structure, skin color etc. Trying too hard for a style that doesn't suit you. As long as it's tailored to your hair type and your face, it'll look hot
This video really missed the mark for me. I love brad’s videos, but I’m not sure what was worse, viewing aging as such a huge negative, using only women as the example, or the one size fits all approach to “hot or not” with no regard for face shape and hair texture. Still a big fan, nothing but love, but I wish he would’ve focused on trendy hairstyles for a variety of hair types and faces without the emphasis on youth
Let's not forget you face shape has a lot to do with how good a hairstyle will look on you. Very few people looking good in a middle part so I'd say most people should go for side partings
@@mallorymatz379 I've yet to see one person who doesn't have a symmetrical face who looks good with a middle part. Very few people do have symmetrical faces so it would make sense
As a hairdresser myself, come on Brad. All you are doing is picking the Instagram picture. How is a hairstyle aging? Red carpet hair is very different than everyday hair, and you know this. A beautiful updo with a gown will always be amazing. Messy waves are boring. And what’s wrong with looking your age? Face shape has nothing to do with what is flattering on you. Hair is an expression of one’s self.
He picked the trendy hairdos as youthful but I think that's misleading. There are other factors to consider like face shape, hair texture, hair colour and skin tone for example.
Face shape can influence what's flattering on someone and some hairstyles are aging. Not that I agree with all of his opinions in his vid...to each his/her own. But someone can literally look 10 years younger, or more, depending on their hairstyle. Same with make up and fashion. Of course people can and should do whatever they want with their look though.
Having a very pointy widow's peak hairline, a middle part looks horrible on me. I tend to do a side part, but it's always a bit messy, hardly like Lauren's.
Cows lick in my fringe means i physically cannot middle part or have actual cut across "bangs". So Ive been digging an asymmetric bob with side shave for the last 12 years.
I also have a very pointy widows peek (as does my mother) but I feel a middle part still looks the best on me. I don’t split my point in half mind you, it is always on one side of the part but it is still very much a middle part.
honestly this is the first Brad video i’ve ever not liked :( nothing against Brad and no hate, but just the premise of the video and the underlying views that are hard to ignore. aging is not bad, aging is beautiful and a blessing so many people aren’t afforded. I also notice that this is very clearly only directed towards women (all the examples are women and all of the hairstyles are traditionally femme hairstyles)~ women are taught that aging is the absolute worst and most shameful thing, yet what about men? why aren’t men’s hairstyles that “might age them” a concern? why isn’t aging in general a concern for men? because men are not taught that their appearance = their value. men also aren’t taught that their youth or even ADOLESCENCE is the prime of their life. hollywood, the media, and mainstream culture (all dictated by and catered to patriarchy and the male gaze) are EXTREMELY p*dophelic. think it’s a coincidence that everything that’s “trendy and hot” and everything that’s considered “feminine” is all based around literal childlike features? nope. definitely no coincidence. we’re taught to want perfect, clear, “baby soft” (seriously, does it get more obvious or creepy?) skin, tiny waists that aren’t proportionate to a healthy adult body, long fake eyelashes mimicking that of literal babies, huge eyes and tiny almost nonexistent noses (like CHILDRENS because they’re still growing and their faces aren’t even fully formed and their features are proportioned differently than adults)…. I could go on about this until i’m old and wrinkly and absolutely grateful to be so ~ just some things to ponder. there’s a lot of context to media like this, and I feel it’s important it be recognized so it can begin to be dismantled. again no hate to brad, still watched 100% of the video and will be back next week like clockwork. just some thoughts
I agree, and I appreciate you saying this. I’m 36, lost a friend to cancer last year and trying to feel blessed I still get to age. But I’m also 36 and scared to turn 40. Thank you 💜
I wanna take a picture of this comment and frame it on my fridge....wow just wow this was beautiful and couldn’t have been said more perfectly you deserve an award🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
I have a blonde lob with baby lights, a root melt, and an oval face. I don’t care how in style it is. I don’t care that gen Z says it’s the thing to do. I don’t care if someone gave me money for it. A middle part makes me look like a Hanson brother. Side part for LLLIIFFFEEE! 😂
The one I really don't agree is the JLo bun. That thing makes most women look matronly. It literally only works as an alternative to a face lift, which is then negated by the receding hairline.
these hairstyles are HORRIBLE for your hairline, and the temporary “face lift” effect will do more harm than good since it’s not actually engaging the face muscles or tissue it’s just manually pulling it back for a period of time which will likely just weaken the muscles and create more noticeable sagging when you’re not wearing the hairstyle. also totally agree with the matronly thing, this is only a “hot look” because it’s on people that are already hot and also have real face lifts already!😂 on anyone else gives Ms Trudgebull from Matilda vibes lol
One thing I would love to see you tackle is how some of us have our hair type changes as we age. I have always had hair that was about as close to 1-A as it gets and now I have 2B at 40 and it's pretty shocking.
I agreed with everything except bun and curls. Tight, strict buns remind me of old English teachers in ill-fitting costumes. The curls looked natural on the "not" side and overly polished on the "hot" Leave the polished curls to permed Grannies
If I did a center part, I'd be trading a trend for looking attractive. I can't wear a center part unless I want to look ugly AF, so no Brad. I'm also so over fake loose beauty waves/curls. It's basic and not that attractive.
Girl same! I haven’t had a middle part since my senior year of high school and it wasn’t cute then. People need to stop attacking the side part 🙄 because I will have a side part til the day I die 😂🤷🏻♀️
Fun fact: a hairstyle that looks good on you is hot. Period. I wish people would stop listening to this mindless drivel. A look in which you are confident and comfortable is all you need.
i wish i could do the middle part but my hairs too thin/fine. it lays flat to my head, and you can see my scalp if you volumize. a video on how to style thin hair would be lovely.
As someone who had a middle part all my life until I was in my 20s and when I went to the side part it was *LIFE CHANGING*! Never going back to the middle part lol
Everyone with a center part seems to look alike, whereas every side part and the volume it produces looks distinctive for that person. It also looks like you put some thought into styling your hair.
So, honest question... Just what the hell are we naturally curly girls supposed to do? Especially those of us who are staunchly anti-straightening? For real, I'd love to know how you deal with curls. You never show curly hair except to straighten it. Do you hate us?
i feel similarily whenever he talks about how much he prefers lighter hair over darker hair, i’m asian and my hair is naturally very dark and it really just makes me uncomfortable feels like elementary school again where all the kids who didn’t have straight blonde hair felt like they were ugly
@@noonespecial9233 and right on queue he puts out a curly hair woke video 🙄 I used to love watching his videos, then I actually became a hairdresser and really started questioning his credibility. His advice for styling the curls is also pretty whack considering every hair type curls differently, some hair types (especially fine, naturally straight hair) you HAVE to use a smaller barrel and wrap the curls tightly even for loose waves because of how resistant the hair can be to curling. Let's also not mention tension alopecia that you can get from having your hair too tight and claim the tighter the bun the better 🙄 I see a lot of clients with breakage and hairline recessions because they wear their hair too tight
@@noonespecial9233 Exactly it's like he truly doesn't like curly hair he just puts up a video but every other video that has curls in he trashes. So what does that actually say about him.
@@LinWarai Exactly and not all brunettes want blonde hair or think it's attractive it makes me uncomfortable too as a brunette who has naturally curly hair
So basically the idea is that slick and tamed hair is more of a mature hairstyles, because adults tend to put more care into their hair, while teens wear the messy hair more often
Yeah, trends change with the wind. Imma stick with my side part and normal face frame….because you know, it’s what looks right on my face? Because that’s what actually matters?
You can’t disparage tight curls and not have naturally curly girls come after you. Our hair is what it is. Leave it be. I definitely disagree with a lot of these.
Just playing devil's advocate here, but I initially felt the same way. But then I thought about it and I realized he was talking about those tight pin curls that like you would see on like Louie the 14th of France.. you know those really tight spirals that aren't like combed out whereas are naturally curly hair which I have isn't like that because it's natural, each curl does different things as we all know LOL even those girls that have the 3a curls, each one is a little different
Brad and everyone else. Please stop thinking that aging is SCARY! If you look up the history of why women's aging especially is frowned upon, you'll see that it's based is really misogynistic traditions. Edit: my mom rocked a middle part in the 70s, I did in the 90s, and if I had children they would be too 😂
Trendy versus dated hair is different than looking younger versus old. You have to take into account where wrinkles are and face shape to look younger versus older which is more than picking a trendy hairstyle.
I get what you’re saying… I think a “dated” hairstyle might be a good alternative way to get the message across 💜💜 Love you and your content Brad! Thank you 💜 - a 36 year old terrified of turning 40 and age in general 💜
Sorry Brad … love your videos but you kind of missed the bus on this. This video is the epitome of why I hated my natural curly hair growing up and straight permed the shit out of it for a decade. Every ‘hot’ one is a person with thin and straight hair with curls added from a curling iron. I mean, you’re not wrong, that’s the aesthetic that’s been pushed forever, that the only hair that’s beautiful is straight … but like the hair you’re picking out as ‘not,’ this attitude is also a ‘not.’
This should have been called, My favorite Trends. So many of these would age me by 10 - 15 years or just look plain terrible on my friends. But thatsOK because there is one thing Brad hates 100 X then brown hair. That would be short hair on women and not chin length short, I’m talking short hair. You know he hates it because he never shows or mentions it. Even though it is the most trendy haircut for some women.
The snatched face lift bun would give you a receding hairline/tension alopecia 😱 - which you have spoken about! Just thinking about being "snatched" gives me a bun headache!! I would rather never look snatched and have hair than be snatched for a little while and then have bald areas at my hairline! I love the messy bun personally! But even that, I try to keep my hair down as much as possible.
Style is a matter of opinion, but be careful with the super high, super tight up-dos. It puts more stress and tension on your hair. You can get tension alopecia (hair loss) and mid shaft breakage.
Ya’ll, the best, or “hot”, hairstyle is the one that YOU like, that works for YOU, and that YOU enjoy wearing. That’s it. Rock whatever that is! ::mic drop:: 🎤
Usually I enjoy Brad's videos, but come on, this is just a bunch of trends and in a year or two this video will be horribly outdated. Let people style their hair how it works and looks best for them! Blindly following trends makes you look like a 12-year-old, and not in a good way. Women are allowed to look older if it suits them better! I'm calling bs on this video.
I had an easy guideline to win this quiz: if it was popular at some time when I was younger (i.e. the Karen stacked bob) it is probably NOT hot anymore. It's kind of a cheat to be old enough to have seen or experienced so many trends. LOL
The hairstyle itself will never make you look younger or older. It's the psychological aspect that does. We connect a hairstyle that is usually seen on a certain generation to that generation, and that is what makes a person wearing it to look older. In less than a decade we'll say that a person looks older for wearing a hairstyle that is trending today.
The looser messier curl and waves have been popular for so long that it honestly gives me older vibes than the tighter curls and waves. The looser curls and waves looked like the trend from 2010-2015.
Yep, I have loved every video of his I’ve seen until this one. This really plays on the insecurity that many women deal with because we are taught through pop culture, media, etc. that our appearance+youth= our value. I’m pretty disappointed in Brad for perpetuating this norm.

Not all is for everyone. The middle part looks very bad on people who are rather less symmetrical. This only looks good on ppl with more of a symmetric face really
I can say with a 💯 certainty that the darker you go the older you will look. It brings out the wrinkles.. but beautiful highlights around the face will brighten you up 💯

Arielle is not a random girl, gurl! And she's been rocking that look for a long time, she just has a good style in general. Looks good with a side part too. This are like trends, not what looks good on everyone. Me with a middle part is just atrocious
The premise of this seems somewhat ridiculous to me. Comparing hairstyles on different people with different face shapes and hair colours as though "hot" and "makes you seem younger" are both the same and universally true.
Hey Brad! I love your videos! This was fun, but we have to chat about the face framing layers. That comparison was a styling issue. But, the “younger” look, is an entirely different haircut. You can’t achieve that sexy look with the modern shag, compared to the much more classic style on the left.
I have to admit I like that, too. It makes me smile. And he does that in the packaging for his products. You open a box, take out the product, and printed on the bottom is, "Hello beautiful." I like it. 😊
Got all except the bun right. Not to suprising to me - i got a freaking 8head (forhead) and thin hair sooooo.. The slick hair-buns just makes me look bald. But I get the point about it - i also wouldnt choose a midpart instead of a sidepart for my hair, But i certainly wouldnt do is as far out on the side as the middle/side-part comperrasion pics. Thanks for the lesson, as always ❤️✨
brad, i love you and truly appreciate your expertise…this type of content would be waaaaay more relevant if these style were shown on women with some actual age…none of these look really aging when we are looking at them on 26 year olds….and thank you for all of your guidance over the years xoxoxo
I think it’s interesting how many people are surprised that the “hot” ones are just what’s trendy because if you wear a hairstyle that was quite trendy or iconic at one time people are automatically going to think of that time and incidentally how long ago that was making you seem older. Plus all the “hot” looks (apart from the bun and ponytail) are part of that “effortless beauty” trend that has been around for quite a while. And if for some reason you are upset, he is not telling you to get any of those hairstyles he’s just telling you what looks cool and hip (trendy) right now and will therefore make you look younger by default.
I agreed with all of then except for the bun. A messy bun is definitely a younger hairstyle than a slick and tight bun, in my opinion, which is purely based on my preference and nothing else lol
YES!!! Messy bun = lived in sexy look
Yeah this was the only one i got wrong. I wonder if the two little bangs in the front and the the little ear pieces are dated. I still do the little ear pieces lol
I came here to say this. I agree with everything but the bun. A fancy tight bun will make you look older than a cute messy bun in my humble opinion.
I agree 100%
Agreeddddd
I agree with everyone in the comments. The “hot” hairstyles are just the trends right now. There’s nothing wrong with the other looks they’re just not super trendy right now so they’re considered “old”
The lauren conrad pic was soo old. He could have done recents.
It’s like clothes though. If you don’t update style you look dated.
That's true but Brad is still right. For now.
I don’t know some of those not hot ones were truly atrocious and aged them horribly. Looking at you Selena Gomez and katherine Heigel
Plus, not everyone can style their hair like that every single day… the “hot” ones requires a lot more texture and work on a daily basis
Exactly
Agreed
I agree 100%
A middle part makes me look like an egg no matter how many times I try
I will go to my grave with a side part because this widows peak is not going away
I know this Video doesn't had the Intention to bring of this message, but its still giving me the "women shouldn't look old"
Most women don't want to look old.
Exactly what I came here to say. They don't make you look older, just outdated. There's a difference.
I completely agree. Just imagine a 60 year old woman trying to dress in a crop top and wear her hair like this. She would look ridiculous and much older than she was. Instead, she could adopt a more classic/timeless style and hairstyle and she would look fabulous and much younger.
That. I mean, there are hairstyles that age you, but these were bad examples. Mostly either personal preference or trends.
Exactly! As an older woman I stay well clear of many trends. Easy to end up looking like mutton dressed as lamb trying desperately to hold onto your youth.
It helps that my look is more alternative maybe than going for a more conservative look.
Preach
For years everyone said: „A middle part makes you look older“ Now it‘s the other way around. 😂 Just shows how fast fashion changes.
yup, tbh before i thought parting my hair in the middle made me look stupid but now I felt like it looks fine. guess I'm also following the "trend"
Right? I had a middle part throughout my entire childhood and into my teen years and then people started making fun of middle parts. I eventually switched to a side part and now that's considered for "old people" 🤣
I still think I look older with a middle part ... but I don't mind since I'm 24 and everyone thinks I'm a teenager
Middle school me would have been devastated to find out that her carefully curated side parts are now considered "old fashioned" 😂
I EARNED this age
@Sara D I'm with you. I know what doesn't suit my oval face shape and avoid them. I don't like the messy hair look because the wind just makes it look like a hay stack.
Yep, I don't think my style is super era specific. I take what I like from the past and present, and keep it moving. Honestly is fully embodying all the trends that usually leaves you feel cringe later.
PERIODT!
SAME definitely prefer more classic/vintage inspired hair
The curls voted as “NOT HOT” don’t look fake, it looks like a lot of people’ completely natural hair….
I was thinking the same thing. I was glad he clarified this only applied to fake styled curls, not natural curls, but at the same time the 'not hot' one looks natural to me. The 'out of place' hairs kind of gives it away. They would have been laid down smooth if they were styled with a wand.
Yeah. It totally looked natural to me at least. I know people in real life who have that hair.
Exactly
Yup. That's my natural air dried hair. He really missed the mark with this video
yeah that 100% looks like her natural hair. I’d be surprised if it’s not actually
This👏👏
Say it louder
Yep! People really shouldn’t be wearing anti wrinkle creams until at least 35-40, or not at all! I can’t believe the beauty industry has 15 year olds wearing anti wrinkle creams. It’s soooo disturbing. What’s next? Mom’s putting it on their babies? Ugh.
HARD AGREE.
Getting older isn't scary. I'm 51 and totally in love with my life. Hair half way down my back and rocking the silver.
i'm only 24 and pretty shocked by the amount i'm being indoctrinated by society to fear and dislike wrinkles, grey hair, sagging skin, sagging breasts etc. it's sooo toxic. if i have the luck and privilege to get older with good health i will be grateful
It’s awful isn’t it. By 24 I was super worried about looking old. Now I am 30 and look about the same and don’t care. Just thankful I’m alive lol
I suppose when you’re young like Brad, getting older is scary 🤣 it gets less scary as it happens to you and you realise it’s not as bad as we are led to believe. You lose some things physically but gain a lot of pluses mentally I think
My hairdresser calls my silvers 'bling' and I love it! ❤
Totally disagree about the buns. The tighter buns are definitely giving older vibes. The messy bun is giving the younger vibs & looks better.
Yes the very neat bun reminds me of an old librarian or somethinggg
totally, reminds me of sock buns from a decade ago!
yea agree
I disagree. The tighter one gives me that airy ballerina vibe.
The messy one gives me "busy mom put her hair away to clean the toilet" vibe.
Let's stop making aging a bad thing.

We need to stop thinking that aging is scary. 😖
I picked an „aging“ hairstyle on purpose. 😃
FACTS !
it is tho
@@user628j 🤣🤣🤣 no way kid ! I'm 52 and still a rockstar, but it's my flagrant immaturity that keeps me young
I’m 60 and terrified 🤪
The key to this game is that every messy hairstyle is the young one. Without fail.
But then there's the slicked back pony and bun. Curve balls.
Oooh, then I must look twelve today then! 😄
That’s why I got the bun one wrong 😂
Except for the first curly look, the JLo bun, and the droopy ponytail. So it's not much of a key at all....
Except that stupid J-O bun
Anyone who has asymmetric features on their face should proooobably go for a side part or something that is off-centered. As someone with a crooked nose… a dead center middle part only makes it more noticeable.
PREACH. My crooked nose would be front and centre If it weren't for my side part big curly hair.
Broke my nose.. crooked( to me more than others', or so they tell me.). A middle part- don't want that attention on my nose. 😂
This whole "young = hot, aging = become less hot" equation thing ist so toxic...
Agreed.
Fr. The left honestly looks like a mom cut.
A blunt haircut would look too heavy on me because my hair is so damn thick and I have a lot of it.
Except the karen haircut. It's always ugly
Don’t like how aging seems to be a negative thing :(
As a hairstylist of 20 Years, growing out the shag/wolf cut mullet situation is GONNA BE A NIGHTMARE growing out all them damn layers. Good luck and may tha force be with ya!
Yeah, as someone in their 30s, that hairstyle wouldn't look good on me, or someone my age. It's definitely suited for a younger demographic. I don't mind a lot of layers in my hair (I have type 2a-2b hair so layers help) but not that many, and not like that
To me the shag is only meant for certain people that can get away with the look. It's an ugly cut in my opinion. I'm a stylist to.
I hate that cut. Looks bad
My friend's daughter looks so good with a mullet, but she's 16

Lots of love to you x
this only applies to white people honestly, some of the “not hot” ones are pretty popular in asia and they look gorgeous! definitely doesn’t make people look older
Thought the same thing when I saw the ponytail! Super trendy in Korea and really cute if you ask me
And as a black woman, we can rock ANY hairstyle and still look hot. This video was very controversial and very opinionated. What matters is if you feel pretty. 🥰
@@circlinq yeah, the “not hot” ponytail (which is actually really cute) is really popular in Korea, plus in my opinion it doesn’t age you

The only one I got wrong was the J.Lo bun. I think I still disagree with it.
And I agree with you🙂
Same
Same! I figured the messier look instead of polished look would make you look younger.
I think its the big sock bun thats throwing us all off. I think if the bun wasn't so large on her head it would be better
same
I think this is about trends, not looking younger.
This video should be titled, "My opinions on hair trends: Hot or Not?"
Or "according to current trends"
Because this is not a one size fits all kind of thing. A lot can go into choosing a haircut and hairstyle that works for you.
Hot or Not is such a misogynistic trend that should have died long ago. Brad needs to recognise his male privilege and shut his trap.
As a 64 year old, I really appreciate you Brad. Tell it like it is. I agree with all but the bun...still love you to the moon and back!
“Aging” isnt scary, stop perpetuating the idea that women who ‘show’ their age are undesirable and “not hot” lmao
@@Halogen511 he literally said that! :D
When you are older you are expected to be more refined and sleek rather than edgy
exactly
@@raraavis7782 That cut was ugly to me when it was popular, pre-stigma.
@@raraavis7782 I always thought it was an ugly and unflattering cut in everyone though. I bet your present cut looks much more flattering on you.
Exactly!!! Chunky highlights are back right now when a few years ago they were considered so outdated. Side parts and full fringes will be back give it two years.
@@birdiegirl1998 this. If we're already in the chunky highlights phase, we'll get side parts back soon enough!
In Are you parting your hair the right way? 😂 He made a whole video about it.. side parts are cute
@@Annelot. thanks!
4:57 "Random girl". Arielle, girl, is that you? 😂😂❤️.

Very few people looking good in a middle part so I'd say most people should go for side partings
nah bro other way around

@@mallorymatz379 but tell me why you think that.
I would say its a 50/50 if you look good in a middle part or side part. BUT a side part that is litterly right above your ear if never the way to go.
Right on!
Thankyou !!!!
The 'Not Hot' looks won't make you look older, they'll make you look less trendy. Not the same thing IMO
Being older doesn't have to be scary. I don't want to look younger. I'm gonna watch anyway though because I want to hear it.
Having a very pointy widow's peak hairline, a middle part looks horrible on me. I tend to do a side part, but it's always a bit messy, hardly like Lauren's.
Understandable! It's about face shape and hair type💗✌️
Cows lick in my fringe means i physically cannot middle part or have actual cut across "bangs". So Ive been digging an asymmetric bob with side shave for the last 12 years.
Widow’s peaks are what makes middle parts the prettiest though!
Try parting it slightly off centre. That’s what I do for my widows peak and it still provides the same effect.
I could go on about this until i’m old and wrinkly and absolutely grateful to be so ~
just some things to ponder. there’s a lot of context to media like this, and I feel it’s important it be recognized so it can begin to be dismantled.
again no hate to brad, still watched 100% of the video and will be back next week like clockwork. just some thoughts
I agree, and I appreciate you saying this. I’m 36, lost a friend to cancer last year and trying to feel blessed I still get to age. But I’m also 36 and scared to turn 40.

Lolol I love this. At least the Hanson’s are cute- girl I look like Dwight Shrute with purple hair 🤣

Honey you do you and enjoy your hair. I bet you look stunning 😍
Agreed. So so true
i can definitely see why people think you prefer blondes over brunettes lol
Pretty sure he flat out says that lol 😂
One thing I would love to see you tackle is how some of us have our hair type changes as we age. I have always had hair that was about as close to 1-A as it gets and now I have 2B at 40 and it's pretty shocking.
I agree with ya'll. Brad, this is more of a trend video, vs aging one.
I agreed with everything except bun and curls.
Tight, strict buns remind me of old English teachers in ill-fitting costumes.
The curls looked natural on the "not" side and overly polished on the "hot"
Leave the polished curls to permed Grannies
If I did a center part, I'd be trading a trend for looking attractive. I can't wear a center part unless I want to look ugly AF, so no Brad. I'm also so over fake loose beauty waves/curls. It's basic and not that attractive.
Girl same! I haven’t had a middle part since my senior year of high school and it wasn’t cute then. People need to stop attacking the side part 🙄 because I will have a side part til the day I die 😂🤷🏻♀️
Side part supremacy!!!!!
Fun fact: a hairstyle that looks good on you is hot. Period. I wish people would stop listening to this mindless drivel. A look in which you are confident and comfortable is all you need.
Aging is normal babes, don't stress too much about it, it's N O R M A L 🥰
why is it assumed that we want to look younger? aging isnt a bad thing.
I'm 62 and I don't give a crap what someone else thinks of my hair or the way I look. I wear mine pixie short.
i wish i could do the middle part but my hairs too thin/fine. it lays flat to my head, and you can see my scalp if you volumize. a video on how to style thin hair would be lovely.
Thin does not equal fine. I have fine hair but it’s thick.
@@Saskatchetooner i said fine/thin because mine is both. i was not talking about you...or your hair.
@@Saskatchetooner she means that she has both. Im the same.
@@Saskatchetooner like clearly she is talking about having both. I have fine hair but also have thin hair due to hair loss
This is me but for low rise jeans
According to whom? It's all a matter of perspective, opinion and current trends. It's all about what suits the model as well
So, honest question... Just what the hell are we naturally curly girls supposed to do? Especially those of us who are staunchly anti-straightening? For real, I'd love to know how you deal with curls. You never show curly hair except to straighten it. Do you hate us?
i feel similarily whenever he talks about how much he prefers lighter hair over darker hair, i’m asian and my hair is naturally very dark and it really just makes me uncomfortable
feels like elementary school again where all the kids who didn’t have straight blonde hair felt like they were ugly
You are beautiful
So basically the idea is that slick and tamed hair is more of a mature hairstyles, because adults tend to put more care into their hair, while teens wear the messy hair more often
Bingo, bullseye, right on the money!
Agreed!
Thank you he clearly has an issue with naturally curly hair
Lmao ladies he says multiple times he's not talking about natural curls
@@cece.halpert Some people's natural curly hair looks like that so what does that say about them?
Thank you 💜
- a 36 year old terrified of turning 40 and age in general 💜
Sorry Brad … love your videos but you kind of missed the bus on this. This video is the epitome of why I hated my natural curly hair growing up and straight permed the shit out of it for a decade. Every ‘hot’ one is a person with thin and straight hair with curls added from a curling iron. I mean, you’re not wrong, that’s the aesthetic that’s been pushed forever, that the only hair that’s beautiful is straight … but like the hair you’re picking out as ‘not,’ this attitude is also a ‘not.’
well said
Exactly say it again for those in the back 👏👏
I saw a curly girl with a purple afro the other day and she looked so stunning, she looked like a model.
Arielle Vandenberg as “this random girl” 😂😂
The only thing I've learned is that if you want to look "younger" just have messy hair.
I love how a basic pony tail is “not hot” sorry I’m not wearing my pony on the top of my head with my 5 strands.
I disagree with curls aging you. Rock your natural curls!
He did say he wasn’t referring to natural curls
@@maryfrail2292 tbh I think ALL curls look pretty though
That hairstyle on the right of the thumbnail on Taylor looks SO MUCH BETTER than the one on the left why is it the bad version?!
I agree. I don't think shag haircuts look good on anyone! I love the look on the right
I had an easy guideline to win this quiz: if it was popular at some time when I was younger (i.e. the Karen stacked bob) it is probably NOT hot anymore. It's kind of a cheat to be old enough to have seen or experienced so many trends. LOL
Oh thank gawd someone said it. That's the signature Karen cut 😅
Ah yes, the Kate +8 bob.
It's pretty gross and mysoginistic to suggest that young = hot and old = not hot.
Yep, I have loved every video of his I’ve seen until this one. This really plays on the insecurity that many women deal with because we are taught through pop culture, media, etc. that our appearance+youth= our value. I’m pretty disappointed in Brad for perpetuating this norm.
@@jonathankastle250 and actually dating is different because people dating might feel uncomfortable dating someone the same age a their grandad or dad, whereas women are scrutinised even when dating isn't involved.
@@jonathankastle250 course you wouldn't get it because men wouldn't relate to misogyny as they haven't been through it.
Evolution suggests otherwise.
@@CEToorn evolution is multifaceted and seks has to do with psychological and social survival as much as it does the perpetuation of genes. In fact, we use it for the first two more than we use it for the third. Bringing up evolution in this context isn't exactly going to win the argument. What we find attractive has a lot to do with social conditioning.
Not all is for everyone. The middle part looks very bad on people who are rather less symmetrical. This only looks good on ppl with more of a symmetric face really
And if your hair is longer than chin-length. Side parts only on short hair :)
I'm torn between going a darker color or blond again. Brad's making me lean towards blond!
I can say with a 💯 certainty that the darker you go the older you will look. It brings out the wrinkles.. but beautiful highlights around the face will brighten you up 💯
You have to consider maintenance if you’re going several shades lighter and whether you can commit to that x
@@meeshelle1397 truth, however if it's done properly by an experienced and talented Hair Artist it can still look amazing as it grows out so you can stretch the touch ups out😊 My bestie is a perfect example of it
Arielle is not a random girl, gurl!
And she's been rocking that look for a long time, she just has a good style in general. Looks good with a side part too.
This are like trends, not what looks good on everyone. Me with a middle part is just atrocious
came here to look for an Arielle comment. I thought that since I love her, anyone knows about her, haha
When Brad says 'hello beautiful' literally makes me feel beautiful 💛 and makes my insecurities go away
