I just started watching this show this week...I enjoy it...I think it takes a little while to figure who characters are and what is going on. Also, I have to admit this, sometimes when certain characters are talking and it kinda low tone......I can't really understand what they are saying......Anyway I love the background and period. I do wonder about the haircuts though......I can't imagine shaving all the way around my head like that...I could not do it. Also, I do understand that in that time period that everyone smoked...that is just the way it was....What I can't figure out is the drinking...especially Tommy....Man who drinks that much is going to die
It was rule in WW1 that soldiers "kept up appearances" being told to keep hair short and to wear a moustache, having stubble was frowned upon by top command and was a breach of regulations. Also soldiers would carry toiletries which included cut throat razors but as the war went on these items became more and more rare as razors would eventually rust.
