As someone who was an Arminian and has a lot of friends who disagree with this theology - I think the sheer arrogance and throwing around the word “heretic” or whatever other slander both sides come up with, keep a lot of people from objectively studying both sides.

Friend, You weren't reading your Bible and accidentally discovered Calvinism. What happened is your mind got poisoned by Calvinist false teachers, and now you're a Calvinist Zombie. You're a Calvinist because you've been fooled by Calvinist false teachers just as I was
Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves. You will know them by their fruits
      Matthew 7:15
For such men are false apostles, deceitful workmen, disguising themselves as apostles of Christ. And no wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. So it is no surprise if his servants, also, disguise themselves as servants of righteousness. Their end will correspond to their deeds.
      2 Corinthians 11:13-‬15
But false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing upon themselves swift destruction. And many will follow their sensuality, and because of them the way of truth will be blasphemed.
      ‭2 Peter‬ ‭2:1‭-‬2‬
See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits of the world, and not according to Christ.

Pastor, you make an excellent point about John 3:16 in this video.
I would go so far as to say that MORE are Elect under the Reformed system than the Arminian system. Why do I say this? Certainly, the 3rd point of the Tulip is normally called Limited Atonement. I like Particular Atonement better because the word "limited" tends to be taken to mean "few".
Certainly, Jesus Christ said, " Many are called but few are Chosen". I think that saying might have been meant for 1st Century Jews. Yet, Paul states that Christ died for the many. The Apocalypse says a number no man can count are saved during the Great Tribulation, which I read through through an Amillennial Eschatology.
So, The Atonement is for a Particular group of men, but not for all men. That Particular group, the Elect, might be a large number.
Thus, I believe that, since God is doing the electing, more Persevere to the end in the Reformed system.
Am I suggesting a heresy? I hope not.

John 3:16 the believer is one who has been born of the water and the Spirit, John 3:5. Also tell us, is it a dead faith? or an obedient faith? In John 3:20 it says, " For every one who does evil hates the light, and does not come to the light.....but he WHO DOES WHAT IS TRUE COMES TO THE LIGHT....and in v36 we see that the words "believe" and "obey" are used interchangeable. " believes in the Son....does not obey the Son..."
We are saved by faith, an obedient faith, not a dead faith and we become children of God by faith when we are baptized into Christ, Gal 3:26-27. Lastly, Jesus said in Luke 24:47 " Repentance and remission of sins to be preached in his name would begin in Jerusalem" this happens in Acts 2. When they asked Peter "what must we do?" Peter said, " Repent and be baptized in the name of Jesus for the forgiveness of your sins", and it says that when they did so, the Lord added them to the saved, v41 & v47

There’s a few issues with this. Greek language, especially Ancient Greek language is quite often circular in its meaning, particularly the book of John.
Ie John is famous for saying the same thing multiple ways. Whether the text is read as “all the believing ones” or “whoever believes” in context, it’s the same thing. Ie believing is the focus and on who? The Son.
In no way can a Calvinist say “see that means the elect” because it doesn’t mean that. In this verse the context of “world” is most definitely Kosmos, which is universe, collectively everything or all. Ie it has universal intent.
Based on this, it makes more sense that the context of “whosoever” is meant as “whoever believes, Ie those that believe”.
I might add the verse doesn’t say where the origin of the belief is. Once again the context particularly with preceding verses and the book of John in general, suggests “we, you, all”, can believe.
To be honest the verse doesn’t definitely support either view, but the context of the whole book of John suggests we all have a choice and can believe, and the Gospel intrinsically has universal intent.

I’d challenge the Arminians ability to know anything at all.
The precondition to knowledge and wisdom is the fear of God (Proverbs 1:7, 9:10).
The precondition to fearing God is that God predestined all things, no one can add to nor subtract from what God has done, so that men should fear God (Ecclesiastes 3:14).
The Arminian will then say, but I do know things, and I’ll say, that’s exactly my point, if what you say is true about free will then you couldn’t know anything at all, but you know things because what you say about free will isn’t true. Basically you’re dirty little secret is out, you do believe in predestination but you don’t believe that you believe in predestination because you are suppressing the truth in unrighteousness. You are in contact with the truth about predestination even when you supress the truth about it.
The Arminian foundation stands upon a beginning of no knowledge and no wisdom.
The Calvinist foundation has the necessary preconditions of intelligibility of knowledge and wisdom, because predestination precedes fear of God, and fear of God precedes knowledge and wisdom.

Jesus said that he had to become like that snake he had to be raised up on the cross so he had to become sin for us in order that all who believe could be saved and so we have to, so that gives us a gives us a universal context that anyone who believes can be saved.

God everlasting love for His people was demonstrated in all its glory on the cross, when Christ 'was made sin' for us ; Him who knew no sin, that they would be clothed in His spotless robe of perfection.
That great weight of sin was put behind God's back when Christ died in the chosen race's place. Christ justified/reconciled all for whom He died for at Calvary ; one is only justified by Holy, Pure, and Deified blood, without which you will perish in your sin.
Every conditionalist - those who make salvation a work of both God & man - are explicitly denying the efficacy of the atonement and it's very purpose. They are blinded by the god of this world and only a miracle of grace will save them.

As I heard from the recent John 6 debate between Leighton Flowers and James White, a good Pelagian/Arminian will simply insert any missing words into the reading so as to make his the correct (in his view) reading. In that debate, reading John 3:16, Leighton literally, not a joke, added, God so loved the world "and everyone in it" twice. Because he knows that's not what it says but he needed it to say that to make his point, so he simply added it. Shameful! But then he accused James of presupposing a Calvinist reading of the text as it's written.

“All who believe” is an indicative. It tells you what they are. It’s not an imperative, what they do, or in this case what they CAN do. The Bible is clear that no one can believe unless God first gives them faith as a gift (Rom. 8:5-8, Eph. 2:8-9). In Acts 11:18, they recognize that God is the one who gave repentance.

    A) Attacking 'Calvinist' straw men.
    B) Not making any honest attempt to understand Calvinism.
    C) Being nasty, disrespectful, and imputing evil motives to their Calvinist brethren.
    D) Refusing to acknowledge Calvinists as brethren.
    E) Calling Calvinism heresy.
    F} Using bad arguments.
BTW, I have seen the same from Calvinists, but not *_nearly_* to the extent I have seen it from Arminians.
On another note, I don't think we need Greek to refute the Arminian argument on this point. Let's agree that it says, "whosoever". But you can't stop there. The very next word is, "believeth". So the Calvinist response is, "So who are those who will believe?"
And that takes us back to the central question.
No points for Arminius on this one! Bad arguments are bad arguments, folks. No matter whether they are in support of truth OR error.

I am a Calvinist, and I fully agree with your post, and especially this part. I don't like when Calvinists strawman or make bad arguments or just get nasty without provocation either. I think we can do better.
But it is encouraging to hear this from your perspective. I've wondered how long some of these anti-Calvinist ministries can continue. Most Calvinists I encounter started out in very anti-Calvinist churches and were so devastated and jaded when they learned what Calvinists actually confess and realize there former church was lying to them. I'm sure we don't always represent the other side accurately to our shame, but too many non-Calvinists I've interacted with won't even accept correction when given. They just insist on their lies even in the face of our centuries old confessions saying otherwise.
I say this as someone who love hearing good arguments against my position. I don't willingly believe something I think is wrong. I think Reformed Christianity gets scripture right. But one of the things we believe is that we are all sinners and so we get things wrong. If Calvinism really is the error people claim, then they ought to take greater care to understand the system as taught and carefully walk through scripture, following along with the argument it makes, and show how our confession is contrary to its teaching. No one does that these days, and it is sad. People in the past could do that, but now we just use "heretic" as if it means "I disagree".

Picking one verse, 1 John 2: 2 what exactly is a "propitiation for sins"? What does it do? What does it mean for the unsaved?
It seems to me that you either have to claim all are saved (universalism heresy), or you have to limit it in some way like the Calvinist does. If you do limit it, it isn't clear how your view is different from a Calvinist version. Or you have to say that all people are propitiated and thus legally innocent in God's eyes, but he throws innocent people into hell for not believing that he will save them. But maybe you can explain it and show me a way that avoids the errors and truly is distinct from Calvinism.
A lot of your other verses are rather unclear as to what exactly you think they say that Calvinists would be opposed to. I assume you are assuming a framework contrary to Calvinism on top of those verses and not just letting the verse itself stand alone. Maybe you are assuming Calvinism denies free will even though every Calvinist confession affirms it. Maybe you aren't reading the verse very carefully and miss important details (your inclusion of Mt 23: 37 makes me think this). In several cases, just reading the chapter shows a very different intent behind the words that is actually quite in line with Calvinism. I don't think treating scripture as a "choose your own theology" buffet is a good approach.

If I remember correctly, John 3:16 is an example of a consecutive clause of actual consequences (houtos ... hoste plus an indicative verb rather than the infinitive). "For in this particular way God has loved the world, that he actually (not theoretically) gave his only begotten son, so that all who believe in him should not perish but have eternal life." The effectual cause of this saving is given in verse 14 where Jesus speaks of himself being lifted up just as that bronze snake was by Moses (indicating crucifixion -- John 12:32-33).

I like the interpretation of Ephesians 1 that the predestination is for those who choose Christ are all predestined for eternal life. Some of the biggest non-Calvinist texts are the old testament. Why if God chose the Jews did they leave him every chance they got? Why did he not keep the original church pure and unbroken. It seems like he would keep his chosen pure and righteous, unless they have free will to disagree, and reject his grace. Also, why do you waste so much time preaching to us unless we can choose to listen. In the Calvinist view If you do not preach the elect will be saved, if you do work hard and preach the elect will also be saved. Your preaching style and the way you apply the bible to real life situations are why I choose to listen to you, even if I disagree.
Also, my own life experience is, I was not raised in a church, nor with a big idea of Church as an institution. I was a "Christian" for years but nowhere near bible believing, nor church believing, I was not the crazy mainline Church but very much a Man of little real faith other than there must be a God, and the Christian God is the best, and I prayed a lot, that is one thing I always did well. A few years ago I was going through some things, and I made a choice to stop pushing for what I wanted and said "God, I am going to trust in your will here." Now, He did not start giving me what I wanted, but He helped me find peace, in what He wanted. I was guided, to start reading the bible, guided to start listening to many church personalities, including yourself, who I still listen to despite this disagreement, because a lot of your teaching is spot on, and you preach in a way that draws people to make the right choice to follow Christ. But there was a version of me that could have still chose not t believe, not to put that trust in the Lord.
I totally needed His help, and His grace, but I had to make the first move. I had to say "I will stop working on my own, and humble myself to Your will" Then He started helping, and I started listening. He did not make that choice first to start helping even though I prayed every day for years before I truly made the choice to trust Him. For me, at least, seeing how things changed after I chose to put my faith in God, both made my faith stronger, and made me more humble, and I think God was perfectly happy to watch me wonder around lost until I made the right choices.
I do not say all this to boast nor convert anyone. My point is to try to lay down my questions and experiences, in hopes those that may disagree can show me where I am wrong, as I want to learn the truth in all things, I read the bible 3-4 hours a week, and listen to all the best pastors I can find from multiple faiths in hopes to find that truth and adhere to it, whatever that truth may be.

“And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.”
Changing the word “whosoever” to “all” doesn’t help your argument.

Yes!!!! That is the scripture that explains exactly why any are condemned. NOT because God randomly chose who to save.
Every mouth will be stopped at the judgment because unbelievers will see that they have no one to blame but themselves for rejecting the gospel that would have saved them. And why? Because they refused to come to the light that they might be saved....NOT because God prevented them from coming to the light. They chose darkness.
No different from the OT. I set before you life and death, therefore CHOOSE LIFE that you and your descendants might live.
God sent all of his prophets to warn his people to REPENT and TURN back from their backsliding OR ELSE they would face judgment.
God even sent some KNOWING they wouldn't repent in order to prove later that a PROPHET HAD BEEN AMONG THEM.

You have to take the WHOLE Bible in context and NOT just parts. God didn't make man to be a robot. If you look at what Jesus said about the parable of the sowing of the seed of his word. People make choices because God wants his children to choose to love him so he gave his children free will. Ultimately ONLY God knows whose names are written in the Lambs Book of Life. That knowledge God has about the beginning and the ending of ALL things is part of what makes God who he is, and that mankind is part of God's creation and mankind doesn't have that capacity. God said man's thoughts are NOT my thoughts. God's timing is NOT man's concept of time. God knew us before we were born. God knows the number of hairs on our heads. God knows are very thoughts and hearts. Jesus knew that Peter would deny him when the cock crowed, Peter told Jesus that he would NEVER deny him. We ALL have sinned and come short of the glory of God.
God willed us ALL an inheritance in deed. Like the prodigal son look at free will as a legal inheritance of property that has value. We have free will to sell ourselves (property) and our very souls to whomever we wish. We because of God's "will" of inheritance we can choose to sell ourselves by signing over our property deed to Satan himself. That is why many that have gained the whole world have admitted they sold (deeded) their soul to Satan. When Jesus was in the wilderness and was tempted by Satan, Satan offered Jesus the world if Jesus would bow down and follow him. Jesus is God so he was able to resist the temptation. ONLY God coming in the form of a man could buy back ALL mankind and pay the ransom that was required. Jesus God in the body of a sinless man sacrificed was the ONLY way to set the captives free. Because God's people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. God said, behold I stand at the door and knock (Satan also knocks on the door) and mankind each and every one of us has free will to open our door to whomever we wish. If mankind was not given the inheritance of free will Jesus God would have had no need to die on the cross.
The first shall be last and the last shall be first. I would rather you were hot or cold but lukewarm I will spue you out of my mouth. A double minded man is unstable in ALL his ways. So, humble yourselves. Get on your knees, repent, and pray unceasingly. Put on the whole armor of God daily for we wrestle not against flesh and blood but principalities and powers in high places. Get ready for the bridegroom have you lamps full of oil and your wicks trimmed. Be dressed in your wedding garments for the wedding supper of the lamb. DO NOT fall asleep and be caught unaware.
Have you ever thought about what you would do when offered to take the mark of the beast knowing that if you didn't take the mark, you could no longer buy or sell. That means you would lose all the money in your bank account, couldn't buy food, couldn't pay your taxes or any bills. Are you going to sell your soul to the master of this finite world Satan, or will you trust in God that created everything to supply ALL your needs??? Only God knows whose names are in the Lambs Book of Life. For ALL have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves.
There is a man who freely sold his soul to the Devil. He is still alive today. The words of a song he sang goes. "You have to serve somebody. It maybe the Devil it maybe the Lord, but you've got to serve somebody." God said you cannot serve two masters.

Love your channel, Pr Matt, but can't agree with your Calvinistic take on Jn 3:16.
Calvinist theology gets a lot of things right. But on the key issues of predestination, election, justification, regeneration, faith, etc., it's a mess.
And because it is it can create a mess in the lives of its adherents, not to mention a sense of fatalism and despondency.
What's more important? God's love? Or, God's (deterministic) sovereignty?
I understand how the God who is love might exercise his sovereignty.
I fail to see how a deterministic sovereign God, who elects some to salvation, and not others, might be genuinely loving.
For God so loved the world that he gave his Son....
I think I'll stick with that instead of the grammatical gymnastics of Calvinism.

In the end, God’s divine sovereignty ought to be an assurance to the believer, because God never fails those he loves even when they fail him.

Because Calvinists do not believe. They think it is all up to God. They are not believers & teach that no man can believe because all men are too totally depraved to believe. If the righteous are righteous by faith & according to Calvinists men are too totally depraved to have faith then by their own definition a calvinist cannot be righteous. They do not believe we are righteous by faith. They believe the righteous are righteous by God’s sovereign choice. The word of God does not teach righteousness by God’s predestined choice but righteousness by faith. Jesus said over & over again YOUR FAITH has made you well (saved you).
If you read 1st John the spirit of the Antichrist is the one who denies Jesus has come in the flesh. This is what Calvinists do for millions of people. They deny that God loves them, they deny that Jesus died for their sins, they deny that Jesus came in the flesh for them. The Pharisees did the same thing. Claiming to be God’s elect they denied salvation to all other men who were “sinners” & “not God’s chosen special people.” What did Jesus tell them? That the adulteress would enter the kingdom of heaven before they do. It is very dangerous to think you are God’s elect while denying salvation to others…
This is what Calvinists fail to see. The Pharisees boasted in being God’s predestined elect chosen people chosen by God. Calvinists say that this is not boasting. The word of God says boating is excluded by the law of FAITH. The law of election? The law of God’s sovereign choice? The law of predestination? No, but by the law of faith.

No, John 3:16 (in the Greek) does NOT destroy Calvinism ("...that all believing..."), however the next verse does:
"For he did send his son into the world to condemn the world, but so that the world might be saved through him..."
And so we find a fairly typical Johannine usage of "all" (after all) in v. 16. To John "all" is equatable to the whole, and often this means the whole world, in context. If John intends to mean the whole group at hand (a limited body of believers) is questionable, and hardly ever clear from the context. In short, John is cosmic.

I was in discussion with an Arminian a while ago who used the 'whosoever' argument from John 3.16 and I later went and checked the Greek text and noticed the wording as 'pas' or 'all' who 'are believing into Him' or alternatively 'all the believing ones (the word is a participle) in Him'. The KJV 'whosoever' has an unfortunate indefinite connotation.

Please stop the 101 level of interpretation.
    1. the term world had different meanings in John. The burden of proof is on you to show that the word means each and every person.
    2. You are assuming each and every because you are bringing in your pre-supposition of universal atonement.
    3. The term was used by the Jews (Jesus and Nicodemus were Jews also) to refer to the GENTILES (Paul used it this way in Romans 10-11). Hence, it can mean gentiles as much as each and every person.
    4. By interpreting each and every you make the bible contradict itself. Jesus said I lay down my life for the sheep (sheep were not each and every person).
    5. Remember Jesus is talking with a teacher of Israel who had the assumption that Israel was God's chosen. But here Jesus is reiterating Isaiah where the messiah was to be a light to the Gentiles.
