I think it’s helpful to focus on skills beyond mechanics but it’s hard not to point out for genji. I notice a lot of discipline and “cleanliness” in his hard dash engages. Not only were the targets softened up as you said, but his consistency in mechanics actually allows him to get the kills but also pose a real threat in the enemy minds.
Any genji can dash in and blow someone up with his cleave on dash and what essentially boils down to a lucky “shotgun” blast, but Water shows the importance of consistency. Without being able to be consistent and creative you can’t really pose as a kill threat properly the way tracer for example can.

Oh and Water’s use of wall climbing and the map in general is a big part of creating easier engages and higher uptime that was super clean movement.

His target priority is the thing I see that stands out the most from other players, he sometimes swaps target 4+ times in the same chaotic fight which allows him to be a lot more optimal with where he places his damage and also grants him dash resets more often.

i learn more in these 9min than 10h unranked to GM (supposed to be) educative vids. i love when u tell why and when they position here and there, and what they have in mind before engaging. really good content.

5:30 I've been playing Overwatch since its release, but it wasn't until I lost my initial account and had to repurchase the PC version of the game roughly 5 years before Overwatch2 did I start to focus in Genji. In all the time I've played the game, I've never considered dashing out, pressing Q, and returning to add 100% surprise factor. In addition, you have complete knowledge of the enemy's location and they're ability cooldowns This is a brilliant idea that I wish I had known about sooner since even if you got no kills, the supports might be completely baffled by hearing 竜神の剣を喰らえ!!! immediately after visually confirming you dashing away this causes your team to have practically infinite space and it causes a lot of confusion so long as you don't die. edit: im currently diamond-3 trying to climb with genji b4 hes buffed lol

Amazing gameplay, but this also shows how dumb Push is. It's probably designed like that but the enemy team won a lot of fights yet their progress is not even half of the ally team. They've been pushing for just as long but no progress made. Worst gamemode tbh I personally liked 2cp more, snowballing is a lot worse here.
