- Spring is in full swing in Alaska with thousands of migratory birds showing up daily to breed and raise their young in the state's vast wetlands. A quick outing lands us a few beautiful birds to bring back to the cabin. Once processed and clean we try our hand at Peking Duck and are not disappointed with the iconic dish.
We appreciate you tagging along for our Alaskan adventure 😀
Thank you for watching and supporting our channel! 💙

I have watched all your videos for the past 4 years since the alaska move. You have inspired me and guided me to start my garden, preserve food, and learn the ways of homesteading. I'm hoping to visit Alaska one day.
That's awesome 🥰
Same story here! Garden is strong this year.
You guys are amazing. You’re hunters, gatherers, anglers, gardeners, construction workers, electricians, car mechanics, gourmet cooks, etc, etc, etc
I said it before and I am going to say it again….You two are awesome. Keep it up. 😊😊
"Even though the muskrat is mainly a plant eater, it also eats small fish, clams, snails, and even turtles." = top entry on a quick search of "what do muskrats eat" ...so...yeah! It *can* eat a duck! (I'm Liking my own post because I Learned Something New Today!)
We really think something took it and that's why we heard that short abrupt splash ten seconds or so after it landed. It was a green winged teal and they are very small, it was a strange experience, we felt crazy not finding it.
I couldn't eat one. All I think of is rat..
@@SimpleLivingAlaska Ducks of all types when injured can swim down grab a reed and die. They don't let loose after death. So if you don't trip over them or a a good bird dog you're sol. Great video!
Hey EnA,well, isn't that bizarre 😳!
Beautiful Ducks😍.
The only problem with over cooking the Duck is ìt tastes livery🥴.,
You guys killed it with the Peking duck, and
pancakes!
JO JO IN VT 💞
Muskrat. The key part of that word is rat. Rats are omnivores.
That Chicken at 10:38 is like 😮, am I next. Not today, not today! Lol.
Either that or it’s thinking “mmm that looks tasty” lol
yes!
lol I thought the same thing 😂
Me too. 🇦🇺. If I were the chicken I’d feel motivated to lay more eggs.
🤣
I find myself swatting at imaginary mozzies while watching this. Strange how the mind can trick you just by watching something. Love a hunting and cooking vid. 🌸🐨🌸
Mozzies.
@@mjay4700 That's what I said 'mozzies' 😊
I knew you were an Aussie (without reading your name) as soon as I read mozzies! Hi there @AussieTracy from Aussie Tracey 😂
Hahaha “he stole our fricken duck, babe!!” Cracked me up 😂😂
You can NEVER eat too good in the wilderness!!! Keep doing what you’re doing ❤!!!
The chicken was watching in horror as you plucked the ducks😂
more like... "I want some of that"
Agree with the previous commenter, the Chicken wanted some duck. Horrific I know.
I saw that. Poor chicken 😢
😆
It was probably like "better it than me" lol
I appreciate when you guys show how you process animals. Thank you both for entertainment and education.
"He has our fricken duck babe...he took the duck!"
Arielle, you always make me laugh with your commentary!
😂 🦆🦆
I want to see you two sit down to a nicely set table with candles and napkins and, maybe, a glass of wine to enjoy the beautiful meals you cook.
I don't think they're the type.
Finally after years of watching this channel I’ve learned a lesson. Eat dinner before I watch. My mouth watered the whole time, but I wasn’t starving afterwards.
And the RUclips award goes to Eric and Arielle for Simple Living Alaska. They have consistently brought their viewers top-notch viewing and photography. You guys deserve an award for best show, I enjoy every minute you share with us. I appreciate the wholesomeness of the content, and can’t wait for the next one. Gods blessings on you both.
Eating Duck in various ways, looks delicious!! Love your videos that are amazing and awesome, God Bless....
I never would have guessed Alaska had a spring duck season... pretty darn neat
You made many waterfowlers scream and cry when you plucked that perfect sprig.
I can attest to this. That was a trophy bird for sure!!
The chicken watching you pluck those ducks was so funny, like "So that's what they do when they invite us to dinner".
You two make a great marriage. Hunt, clean cook, and eat together. You two make a great team.
You have forgotten that Eric preps seedlings, helps Ariel in the kitchen, cleans house, harvests the garden and cans that harvest. I think they both complement each other. She lucked out just as he did!
I lived in China for 11 years and ate Beijing Duck several times. You guys did a great job with this recipe! I am certain that my Chinese friends would absolutely love what you’ve done here with the ingredients available. You cannot get more fresh and organic than these ducks! Wow.
Great change of pace going from the hunt to the meal and it all looks absolutely amazing! Great video!!
ERIC YOU GOT THE BEST GIRL IN THE WORLD 🌎 👏 ❤️...YOU ARE ONE BLESSED MAN....
Enjoying your new homestead and area and all that it offers!
Watching you eat the Ducks makes me drool lol. 🙂
You both looked happy duck hunting, reminds me of when I was a boy hunting with my dad! Thanks for bringing back some good memories, keep safe and thanks for a good video!
You should set up a 2 seat table and chairs on your deck, so you can enjoy your meals outdoor.
They rarely sit down to eat when they are at home.
Yeah, in a mosquito net !
@@CrimeVidThat's a great idea.
Way to go Eric! Beautiful birds!
Thanks for sharing your hunt with us!😊
Awesome video guy's. Love watching you. Very Peaceful and Relaxing when I watch your shows. Keep up the great work.
The pin tails are a gorgeous bird. I also shin the pelt and tye flys with them.
This was a very cool video! Love when you follow a meal from hunt to chow down!
Your peking duck dinner looks amazing. My mouth actually watered as you made it. ❤
I would love to see y’all Amazing Channel Reach 1 million and I don’t understand why it isn’t there already but Thank you for another amazing video and I enjoy watching the both of y’all cooking 😊❤
Thanks for sharing! Fun video.
beautiful pintail ducks, looking forward to the next garden video as well, such a great daily adventure for you two :)
That is a great area for hunting especially for ducks and
it is very beautiful out there, Peking Duck sounds good
and I liked seeing how you cooked it, have a great week
Thank You Arielle and Eric.🇺🇲🦆🦆🇺🇲
Duck liver pate’ is a superior delicacy. ❤I never had duck until I was about 45 years old. My family never enjoyed it apparently. I absolutely loved it. Same thing with lamb. In both cases much of it is just the way you prepare and season the meat. Both are extremely delicious flavors to me. Duck and lamb are so good. The Thai version of duck with pancakes, plum sauce, Thai basil, green onions, cilantro and Thai chilies…🤤🤤🤤🤍🙌
Aloha. I was fortunate, my mom was born and raised in China (Armenian), my father and my brother as well as myself were born in Australia. Thanksgiving was always duck or goose, Christmas always lamb. Shepherds pie the next day!
Those ducks look amazing yummy!
Thanks for the duck hunting adventure and how you cooked it. Love your passion for food.
Ohhh the Peking Duck meal was so pretty and looked delicious, thanks for sharing your learning experience and journey in Alaska; keep bringing us your adventure’s, love your enthusiasm ❤.
I loved "I think we're eating too good!" We'd go duck hunting and come back to the camp and eat and one of us would inevitably ask "I wonder what the poor people are eating?" This was in S.E. Louisiana.
That has to be one of the nicest Drake pintails I’ve ever seen. Look at that sprig
Made my mouth water watching you eat the bounty of your hunt.
Sometimes a wounded duck will dive and get caught up underwater and not come back to the surface.
Thank you, I didn't know that.
Yup had it happen to us.
I had it happen to me several times!
They can get trapped under ice that way too. We’ve lost several that way.
Oh my gosh! I find myself swatting the skeeters while watching!! Especially when they swarm your camera!!!
Great video the food looked delicious love watching ye cause its so calming
Y’all, I could hear the mosquitos! That hunt! The cooking! Yum.
The doneness you want is called "Pittsburgh Style". Thats when it's charged on the outside, but pinkish on the inside. That's how I order my steaks at my local stake house. 😊 Pluss I BBQ my chicken like that aswell.
I have never had Duck, but I'm sure it would be delicious, cooked that way also. 😊
Oh! I love a good mallard mystery 😂
Arielle I think we eat too good. Priceless
Love how you both work hard, play hard ( hunting/ sourcing your food) and eat hard! The joy of it all shows in your videos and it always puts a smile on my face.
The first duck you made looked delicious....the peking duck looked quite dry and overcooked. Another fun adventure and great video.
First time I ever saw a man trying to duck hunt in a red shirt lol 😂 love yalls show
Good shooting guys and great eating 👍🏻🏴
Eric should make a small picnic table for your deck. Good show.
Aloha. Awesome. The whole thing! Congratulations.
Luckily my dinner is almost ready so I won't suffer from being made super hungry by watching another delicious Simple Living Alaska meal......
Stunning scenery, you two! Looked like so much fun exploring that wetland area. Ducks were beautiful and looked so delicious.
I’ve never lost a bird to a Muskrat but I’ve lost an entire day’s limit to a family of Otters. They jump on them like a Trout on a dry fly or a Great White on one of those Seal decoys. Feathers were flying in the wind while they shredded them. We just watched and learned something that day. Duck hunting is the best of days!
IF I ever believed in soul mates. You two are definitely the definition of that. Love your story...and if you couldn't tell... I'm jealous
What a good day for you Duck Hunting and I can only imagine how good it must have tasted being a different food item. Congratulations friends
Love y’all and watch every week! So good to see this episode, I’m a ‘city slicker’ these days, but I love watching your videos as a way to get away from the corporate life and escape a little each week.
Grew up duck hunting by y’all in Napa/Sonoma, and this episode really brought me back to my roots and reminded me how much I miss being out there! Thank y’all again.
Thanks guys! Always enjoy your videos! Be safe!
45 seconds into the video “ mosquitoes” 🦟 omg!! 😱 that’s cra cra!!
I made Peking Duck once - hung it in the laundry room and aimed a fan at it for about 8 hours - the whole house stunk and the cats were going a little mad, but man that was an amazing dish!
Congrats on a successful bird hunt (maybe an otter took your duck?)! Wonderful meals guys! Thanks for bringing us along and enjoy your spring! More Cutters please! Cheers.
I love you simple living Alaska❤❤❤😊😊
Pintails such a beautiful duck to harvest also make such nice fly fishing flies with there feathers
Watching from OZ. G'day mates... again... bloody well done. 😎
Hi Ariel, Eric and all the critters, Duck is one of my absolute favorite things to eat and the Chinese know how to season it. As for the well done - rare debate. Life is too short...eat things you like the way you like them. This was a joy for me to watch you guys enjoy the fruits of your hard work. I also adore heart and I'm happy to see that liver is growing on you guys. Liver is one of the the most nutritious things you can consume. so sneaking even a little bit in, like with the pierogis, is good for ya. Great chinese pancake technique. Slicing the duck made my mouth water. Bravo my friends. Thanks for the fun. Jim Mexico
They are tasty creatures 😂 You guys are rocking, so cool to watch you hunting!
You both always make my mouth water 😂 the food looks so delicious
I've said it before and I'll say it again: The absolute best RUclips channel out there. Perfect balance of nature shots, talking heads, educational, etc. I mean, no notes at all. Provides such a nice reprieve from my life in NYC.
I'm also in awe of them wearing short sleeves/no face nets when there are so many mosquitoes out. That's so metal. My god, I could never. Give me layer on layer and layer, and about five gallons of bug spray.
You two are inspirational and wonderful! You show the value of acquiring, processing, preparing, cooking and cherishing natural foods Thank you!!!
Looks very fun and very peaceful!
My fave channel, always pleased when I see you’ve uploaded. Much love from over here in Australia
Those mosquitoes are the size of hummingbirds!
I ate plenty of duck, Canada goose and muskrat growing up on the Eastern Shore of Maryland!
Well, that was a fun video, and peking duck - such a great dish!! Good job you guys!! 👍👍 A nice break for you from your work load☺ Stay safe, be happy❤
Watching your video now about spring waterfowl hunting in Alaska! Love watching your program you both work very hard and it shows!
IDEA: We live in Michigan, where there are lots of mosquitos and deer flies. My dad has 2 ponds that he would stock with catfish, bass, blue gill and perch. He set up a really large bug zapper set out over the water on a huge pole, so the zapper would constantly drop bugs into the water to feed the fish. Could you hook up a bug zapper to the solar in the chicken area to feed your chickens MILES of mosquito bodies? LOL.
Great Job you two. I like that kind of duck hunting. the Peking Duck looks Amazing!! So cool you moved to a different area in Alaska and find new adventures. Those are some BIG mosquitoes.
You never cease to amaze me with your projects AND gourmet meals which you prepare! Love your your videos!!😢
Dinner looks good tonight! You guys rock.......
DUCKSLAYER! Eric the Terrible! 🦆🦆🦆🦆🦆
hahaha, that buzzing would drive me crazy
I r ad a hack yesterday that said to put dryer sheets in your pockets to keep mosquitoes away. They don’t like the smell. I guess any aroma will do. The article didn’t specify. I really enjoy your videos! God bless you both!
Me and my girlfriend . Just love you guys and your videos. Keep up the great work. Kent
Love the beautiful scenery! I’m not a duck eater, but yours looks delicious! God bless y’all! 😀❤️
Never heard of a spring waterfowl season before ..
Oh Wow! Excellent video! Yum!
Cant wait to try this recipe i enjoy watching your videos because i get to learn new recipes
I love it, the worlds loudest hunter, aurally, visually, emotionally, it’s a vibe for sure
Wow, you guys really know how to cook wild game! That looks delicious.
Again 5 star dining at its finest..
That’s awesome, spring duck hunting. Pintails are beautiful. We rarely see them here in Ontario - I’ve only shot one in 40 years. You guys have quite the life
Woop woop, 21.02 in Scotland and this video is 2 minutes old. Nice viewing ahead before bedtime .
That looked delicious 😋 good job! I’m jealous 😊
Great video today. I love duck. Yum. Glad you are doing some hunting. Looking forward to fishing. Thanks for taking us along. Take care✌️🇺🇸❤️
Great cooking ,the ducks looked perfect!
Lmao. That chicken watching you de-feather that duck, it’s like WTH going on. 😂😂😂😂
Duck hunting was great! You guys amaze me cooking up great meals. I am so happy when you have a new video. Keep them coming.
