    Looks fairly easy but I've never soldered anything before. I have like 3 of these old ipod players around with dead batteries from the past 17 years or so. These things still sound way better than any cell phone I've ever owned. Thanks for sharing!

    One important thing missing from the reassembly: The power switch on the case is free floating and could easily get out of position as you take the unit apart. You need to make sure the switch on the main board and the switch on the case are in the same position before you try to snap the case back together, otherwise you're going to break one or the other.

      There is no power switch only a hold switch

    • @cirkulx
      @cirkulx Год назад +1

      that’s the hold switch

    Oh gosh. Thank god I found this video. At 10 years old my nano battery has died. I'm 100% sure it's battery so I am glad I can use this video to help repair it. Iv got so many songs on it I no longer have hard copies of. they are like memories. Wish me luck 😊

      You can copy the music files from an iPod to a PC. You click on whichever drive the iPod is a you can copy and paste them wherever via Windows Explorer, or whatever it's called. However, I think the filenames on the music file are gibberish letters and numbers, so you'll have no idea which song is which and have to rename the file LOL!

    Was a little harder to open it without damaging it than I thought but I finally got it open with minimal damage, replaced the ballooned battery and now my old iPod works really nicely again!

    Very nice. At the end, when I snapped the case in, I started at the top where the switch is to ensure the switch on the case lined up with the plastic switch on the board. Great to have my 4 GB nano mini alive and functioning again. Many thanks for patiently explaining. This was a snap.

    I have no idea what you were doing to make that clicking sound prior to inserting the green tool. I didn’t need a tool to remove the back. The swollen battery did it for me 😂

    Everybody savage until you gotta start do stuff with wires.

  • @pennyastrologer1786
    @pennyastrologer1786 22 дня назад

    When attaching the wires, I think it was the 2nd one, you said: "I'm going to add a little solder here," IF I heard you right. I have a soldering iron, never used it, so am left to guess, does the device "ADD" solder automatically? or did you tap it in to some material 1st? Or, was it only a phrase you were using meaning "Add a little soldering action here?" Thank you!! Also, is it the same sort of thing with the later version of the nano?

    • @poweredbyowc
      @poweredbyowc  19 дней назад +1

      It appears that you will need to add solder to the soldering iron as needed to ensure a secure connection. There are some great tutorial videos available that demonstrate how to add solder effectively, so you can verify that everything is done correctly!
      Also, the replacements for future iPod Nanos are similar, but not exactly the procedure.

    I cleaned out my dads work truck today & found my nano in between the seats after maybe 2 years, for the longest time I always thought someone who was in my car stole it lol I even have a 5th Gen Touch now but I got excited when I found it covered in grease and dirt, I thought it had been gone forever, after connecting it I couldn't access my old music unless the nano was restored on my iTunes, so I did & it still works great, but I noticed the battery dies real fast now, I opened it up and it was really dirty around the bezel & I cleaned it with Qtips. After cleaning I had to put it back together cuz i don't have a solder gun 😩

    I've been looking through videos and trying to figure out what to do and what not to. I've already ordered the replacement battery as well as the tools needed. I'm planning to replace the battery on the 1st generation ipod nano model A1137 which my now fiancee got for me a few years back. The battery on it lasts about half an hour before completely dying. Any advice you could give that isn't already in the video? Thank you for your time.

    Can't you just cut the battery wire and attach the new battery wires to it, so essentially you don't need to use a soldering thing, is that possible?

    • @poweredbyowc
      @poweredbyowc  2 года назад +1

      Unfortunately, no. The way the battery and motherboard are designed is that both have wires soldered on. The wires are part of the battery and then in order to power the iPod, they are soldered onto the motherboard, so a soldering tool is still necessary.

    I'm just getting into these types of repairs. What temperature do you set the iron at?

    • @catprints
      @catprints 3 года назад

      I think there is some kind of formula, depending on melting temp. of the solder and something else.

    • @kcindur
      @kcindur 2 года назад

      I set my temp at 400 deg C, about 750 deg F.

    I have an iPod nano 1st generation that when I plug in to charge it will but when is fully charged and I plug it out is dead and when I plug it in my PC it say "Please Wait."
    "very Low Battery."
    And also I'm new at taking apart electronics so I don't want to mess up

    I forgot to put the tape back and the iPod is all closed up now. It seems to work fine. What might happen if the solder came in contact with the metal case? Am I in the clear since it works fine or should I go back in and add the tape?

    • @David-yr1hi
      @David-yr1hi 6 лет назад

      What could happen if the solder came in contact with the case? Could it catch on fire or explode? Or would it just not turn on or drain the battery faster?

    • @larrybud
      @larrybud 6 лет назад

      Fix it right. You should short the battery causing it to overheat, you could short another connection with the battery and damage the ipod
