Was literally gonna comment this I think these dudes don't know the difference between young players and breakout players. Vicario may have been solid in Serie A but he's now one of the best keepers in the league only behind Allison in my opinion
I don’t understand why they didn’t agree with it.. by that logic Udogie had played two full seasons in serie A before joining Tottenham so technically he’s had his breakthrough
He's still wrong though, because that would be a breakout season not a breakthrough season. That being said, he is right on calling out the others though because they've all got it mixed up. Breakthrough season means the player has just broken into the first team, so in a sense only somebody like Cole Palmer really fits the criteria.
Both Vicario and Udogie have already played plenty first team football so they couldn't have had "breakthrough" seasons, instead they both had breakout seasons. So Tom is right on calling them out about including Udogie and excluding Vicario.

MURILLO (NFFC) has a breakthrough season as he was a literal unknown before he joined NFFC. He had played a dozen games for Corinthians before joining and has been catching the eye more than once this season, some others have got recognition for the team they play for not always what they have done

I'm with Tom on the Vicario shout. A breakthrough season just means that they have a standout season where they play really well. Vicario is in a new league, with a different pace/style of play, and he's replacing a keeper who was solid for Spurs for multiple years in the past. I never knew who the guy was before this season, and he's been class this year for Tottenham this campaign. I promise you they wouldn't be in 4th without him.
No that would be a breakout season, not breakthrough. Breakthrough season essentially means the player has just broken into the first team for the first time, so in a sense only somebody like Cole Palmer really fits the criteria. Conversely, breakout season would mean what you have described. That being said, Tom is still right to call them out though on including Udogie. Both Udogie and Vicario have had breakout seasons and not breakthrough seasons (they both already played plenty of first team football). You can't have one and not the other.

Like he played for empoli before spurs. Cmon. Players can have breakthrough seasons at 27 or even 32, but its more likely to happen earlier

When Micky van de Ven played for FC Volendam (2 seasons), they were still in de Keuken Kampioen divisie (Dutch Second tier). From there he got sold for an astonishing €10.5 million to Bundesliga side VfL Wolfsburg. His first season there he didn’t play much and was injured for like a 1/3 of the season. His second season was his first full season at top tier level before he went to Tottenham Hotspur.
Also Vicario only played 2 full seasons at first tier level in the Serie A before going to the Premier League
VDV wasn't £10m. It was £400k rising to £3.15m and all targets were met.
Surprised Pape Sarr wasn't here. Went from being our unknown 6th choice last year to starting most games for Spurs now and being one of our most important players

@@roykeane1922 Branthwaite, while being very good, is playing for a team fighting relegation. Jarell Quansah has been a revelation for a team that has already won silverware and is in a title race.

If you swapped them, Everton would be going down and Liverpool would be clear at the top. You don’t know football, you just know big teams. He will move to a top club in the next 2 seasons and your eyes will be opened (same as Stones)
@@roykeane1922 I'm not saying he shouldn't be on the list, just not number 2. Quansah plays for a team who has conceded 12 goals less, is in a title race and has already won silverware this season. I don't think you get that Liverpool are in a title race and are only behind Arsenal on goal difference. Quansah has also been an integral part in the Europa League run, which should not and cannot be underestimated.

Simple criteria really. Prem breakout will be someone having their first good season in the Prem. Yes van de Ven counts cus he’s excellent in his first prem season. Yes Muniz counts he’s been here years but it’s first good season. Yes Miley counts cus it’s his debut season. Theo and Reev act like it’s debut season for kids Tom and Lewis actually understand the concept the most
