Wilfred Benitez - Is a New York-born Puerto Rican former professional boxer and the youngest world champion in the sport's history. Earning his first of three career world titles in separate weight divisions at the age of seventeen, he is best remembered as a skilled and aggressive fighter with exceptional defensive abilities, along with his fights with Roberto Durán, Thomas Hearns, and Sugar Ray Leonard. Inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 1996, he is considered among the best Puerto Rican boxers of all time. Nicknamed "El Radar" and "Bible of Boxing", Benitez was widely respected and renowned for his incredible reflexes and defensive skills with many boxing experts citing him as one of the best boxers of all time in this area. He retired with a professional record of 53-8-1 (31 KO's). Certainly one of the greatest fighters of the 1970's and 1980's.

Highlights Knockouts Tribute

The 5th king! It's been quite a few years since my last Benitez highlight - One of the greatest defensive boxers of all time and the youngest world champion in history. El Radar was an incredible talent who could have been even greater with more discipline. www.patreon.com/haNZAgod
beautiful.. Wilfred is one of my favorite defensive fighters. hey, would you mind doing a highlight of Carl Froch?
Awesome highlights, def one of the greatest defensive fighters of all time.
that defense is disgusting, nobody should be born that slick, another great upload man
Can you do a tribute to Earnie Shavers?
@@mmastiff734 Got one here: ruclips.net/video/PivvOpkAIrM/видео.html but after seeing the news I may have to make a new one
Not only his head movement, but it was the micro adjustments he made mid-combo with his hands and foot positioning. It's like he was a fraction of a second ahead of his opponents. Wilfred will always be one of the baddest mofos for me ever. HanZa brother, thank you again. As always, dope lessons.
Thanks bud glad you enjoyed it!
He’s making ALL TIME GREAT fighters swing and miss like amateurs. He was world champion at 17 years old. Truly a legend. El Radar.
17? or 15?
17
I’ve heard he had a hard time saying in shape due to partying. Is this true?
@@QNoland
Yes. He didn’t train hard. He was a guy that had an unbelievable amount of natural talent. He was world at an age when most guys are still in the amateurs.
@@jesusrodiguez4119 ok thanks
Youngest World Champion ever 🇵🇷🥊
It's easy to think that every time someone is in the ring, they are the best version of themselves and that they never compromised their training. With guys like Marciano, Hagler and Floyd etc, you can assume that. But the reality of Benitez is that once he reached the mountain top at only 17, he spent more and more time in the clubs and with women than training like a savage. He was defending his belt at only a fraction of what his full potential was capable of. It wasn't until Leonard that his record finally paid the price for that and even then, he took Leonard nearly the whole 15 rounds in a competitive fight on only 2 weeks of training. Benitez lacked certain intangible traits like Hagler's consistent discipline and conditioning, but as for his boxing skill and raw talent, the man was a GENIUS
Yeah some of his later fights at middle weight were absolutely brutal, really tough to watch
Very well said!!
Well said
Benitez hated boxing his father forced him to do it once he wasnt under his dads thumb he went all out
Defensive genius. And he is doing this to some of the greatest boxers ever. His composure whilst being on the ropes is insane.
Amazing defense and yet he's still in horrible condition. Maybe it isn't boxing related?
@@craigridley7369 Some like Foreman are genetic millionaires - Benitez? He spent all of his savings and lost everything it seems (genetically speaking).
He put his weight on the front foot so he could lean back sacrificing punching power.
I read his manager Jim Jacobs set up a trust fund for a million dollars not to be touched until Benitez is 50. Benitez and his drinking buddies went to the bank to take out the money.
El Radar..still holds record for youngest workd champ at 17yrs old in any weight class.record gonna be hard to break🇵🇷
One of the great defensive wizards to lace them up. His condition in his latter years was indicative of the amount of blood sweat and tears poured into his craft. As always thanks for Hanzagod’s service to the sport
Thank you for this video. Benitez is my favorite, best defensive fighter of all time. Anyone who can make Sugar Ray and Tommy Hearns miss so much deserves that title.
Not to mention beating Duran with ease
@@joshuajarod1909
Not trying to undermine Benitez’s win or anything, but I wonder if it would’ve been a more competitive fight if Duran hadn’t overtrained.
But still, that was probably Benitez’s best performance.
And Duran
@@Uuyrijies1123now it's Duran over trained when he lost to Ray Leonard he didn't train now he over trained smh
Is that Duran’s exuse? Overtrained?? Lol
This man does not get the respect he deserves! Benitez was the 5th king!
Simple movements make the art even more to appreciate
Those feet so rarely come out of position. Fantastic control and such a talent, great highlight
Beautiful defensive ability it's soo sad too him today God bless him he was beautiful too watch!!
El Radar!! I’m sad Nicolino Locche and Wilfred Benitez missed each other by just a few years. Prime vs. Prime I think Benitez/Locche is my favorite fantasy fight ever. 2 defensive MASTERS!
Nicolino Loche, Wilfredo Benitez, Mike Mccallum,JamesToney, Pernell Whitaker, Buster Mathis jr., and Mike Tyson in his prime...
@@joaquindominguezramirez5488que hace Tyson ahí? Se habla de especialistas defensivos.
Styles make fights
The music choice goes perfectly with this- it really compliments the unfruitful pursuit of all of these professional killers failing to push a glove on this guy
What's the name of the song??
@@shawngreene4896 I belive the song is called Darude Sandstorm
@@AntitheBadGuy it's not, but thank you
It's called No Se by Frais
Great fighter
Un grande de Puerto Rico, grandes boxeadores!
Man. The way he makes Sugar Leonard miss at 3:00... It's just sick.
El radar was really the sweet science incarnate.
Amazing how he stood in front of his opponents, and made miss them by a fraction of an inch. It is like fighting a ghost.
I loved the way he slipped punches.
Not just any fighter, Man. HEARNS, Sugar Ray. And he made them miss while he was trapped IN A CORNER. God level defense in his prime.
Loved Benítez Pure poetry
Incredible to beat a dominant champ like Cervantes (held the belt for eight years!) at just 17. Really tragic how his health and quality of life have deteriorated since retirement.
Cervantes beat him, IMO. Very questionable decision.
@@louduva9849 No. Seen that fight a hundred times . Wilfredo won but yes Cervantes was capable. My fried from Colombia Humberto is related to Cervantes and said he couldn’t believe he lost a 17 year old.
You're profiles are gems. And you have an ear for the right music.
Thanks bud glad you enjoy them!
killing it on the defensive side of the coin. Great skill and timing. Props hanzagod
Another piece pf classic content to add to an extraordinary catalogue of defense and showmanship 🥊🥊
So happy you posted another Benitez highlight 💯. Someone needs to do a breakdown or something to explain his defensive technique
Alfin un buen video de mi querido campeón tio👍
One of the greats
Perhaps He had the most naturally gifted defence of them ALL. World champ ( when it REALLY meant something ) at 17!. He was supreme.
It's important to note that Benitez was defensively excellent against other all time great fighters too. A lot of fighters can look great defensively against sub-par opposition but Wilfredo did it against the best
The best puerto rican boxer of all time either him or Wilfredo gomez
I don’t care much for the Mexican style of boxing with coming forward with left hook to the body, but I idolized Puerto Rican boxers when I was a kid with their slick style.
A great improvement since your last defensive video of him, well done hanza! 👏👏
ur videos are eye candy man great content each fighters soundtrack is perfect
Amazing watch one of the most greatest of the history. Thank you for sharing it
Amazing.
bruh... being able to slip some of the fastest hands ever (sugar ray).. speaks volumes.. wow !!.. great video
He dodged punches like he saw the future. His speed was human for a boxer, but his defense is anything but.
un genio infravalorado. Entre los mas grandes del deporte
The shadow master of the Sweet science of boxing 🥊🙌🏿
Unsung fifth king.
Thank you for making this!
100 percent correct. Great fighter great Drive to fight. What head movement. Really special
Love watching Benitez defensive skills @ work.✨ Fantastic ✨
Making the hall of Fame bow down to boxing mastery!!!!!
This was a great video. One of my fav boxers of all time.
New clips. I love it. The stuff made me smile.
Wilfred benitez was absolutely amazing 👍 great fighter!
One of those %100 type fighters just the full package. Great chin, great feet, great punch. This type of fighter is born, not made.
Unbelievable 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏 amazing fighter 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏 Thanks for the video
Todays vocab word is: Preternatural.
You can’t hit what’s not there.
Excellente, Maestro 🙌🏻
Really dig the tunes and great clips 👌
I love this video!
The radar!!!!! Bible of boxing!!!
The instrumental nice I can't stop bobbing my head lol 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
his Composure against some of the Greatest and Most Dangerous Tommy Hearns Duran and Others was INSANE!!! Rip Benitez Greetings from Mexico
The thing about evasive reaction timing like this is that the fighter doesn’t see the punches coming as much as they know what punches are coming based off what the other fighters range, speed and timing is and they’re conditioned to respond appropriately. It’s Chess ♟And good reflexes…..
As fighters age, they often take on more damage to their central nervous system and lose reaction time with age and damage. This causes areflexia and fighters can’t evade like they once could.
Lovely music, great champion! ❤
I remembered he gave a lesson of boxing to Roberto Duran.
A great Legend
"very difficult to land cleanly on Benitez" Sugar Ray Leonard .
That's why they called the man EL RADAR. Wilfred Benitez one of best Defensive Boxers, and also one of the greatest of all time.
Watching old videos of Benitez, along with vids of some of the guys you see him fighting here, is the reason I laugh every time Mayweather refers to himself as "The Best Ever".
beautiful boxing!
Amazing
On the list of my top 5 all time greats Wilfred (El Radar) Benitez !
sugar ray said nobody make him miss more
Did anyone make Durna, Leonard and hearns look this bad and miss that widely? Up until the Hearns fight, he was world class. I never saw a great fighter go downhill as quickly as he did.
ALL TIME GREAT!.
His pure talent carried him so far. If only his discipline and dedication matched his talent, he’d potentially be considered the greatest to ever do it.
Lovely movement, very elusive.

Legend!
The five fantastic!
If the fifth trained hard, he would've been the only king.
The man only trained for 5 days for each of the four kings fights
Great!!!
They don't call you "the Bible of boxing " for nothing .
Amazing 💯
He is thee 5th king, I’m mad nobody puts his name in there. Champ at 17 and only fought the best
With only a fraction of his potential
If hagler, hearns, duran, and leoanard were the 4 kings of boxing then Benitez was the prince

@@Rodageado Wauuuu,
They called him "The Radar" for a reason!
Way ahead of hes time
Born in the wrong era. Definitely a 🐐. They threw more punches in that era. You had to be busy. If he was in this era he would destroy any and everybody in his weight class.
In an era where the four kings reigned, Benitez was the fifth unofficial king
The Fifth King.
Increible skills, he looks like a boxer from the modern era, great video🥊

The bible of boxing, he sure was
Incredible that one of the most amazing defensive boxers still ended up with neurological issues.... maybe it had to do with his success/ exposure to elite status at a very young age.
New research on CTE shows that some people will begin to acquire it after only two or three moderate concussions. I constantly work on head movement because of this.
@@ch0wned Need proof
@@ch0wned how good is your head movement?
@@sincity5268 Not as good as Benitez. But realize that Benitez was sparring and fighting grown men as a kid.
He turned pro at 15.
Short of a Hagler fight. The fifth king
He beat one of the 4 kings, so he’s the fifth king
Слава Богу! Здравствуйте! Хорош, хорош был Бенитес, всё видел, всё успевал! Красавчик! Спасибо!
Greatest
Master défensive boxe. An eel
Such a beautiful graceful elegant style, of boxing, and the thing is he didn't over rely on dancing, around to avoid getting hit, he would be up very close ,constantly slipping punches without excessive movement, so he wouldn't tire out.
could you a new video of andre ward
I say this constantly....... He was the fifth king.
I always thought it really should of been the Fab 5 instead of the Fab 4. Sure, both El Radar and Manos De Piedra had no business north of 147, but they still caused some major upsets and were upsetted themselves. But holy canoli when they turned back the clock those final times, they were the gods of war once again gone giant slaying.
The 5th 👑. The fab 5 of the 80s
He might just be sweeter than Sugar Ray Robinson!
