Nice job bud.👍 I’m doing the same thing to mine this weekend. I picked up a good used starter from a local small engine repair shop for $25 bucks and the snowblower it self was only $60 bucks on letgo. It’s a 1995 MTD 5hp 22” self propelled 2 stage blower and thanks to your video it will now have electric start and I only spent $85 bucks total. 👍👍👍

I have the same blower and the engine doesn't like to start in the cold for me. Your electric start kit end up working - so old I can't really find good info.

Great install. I haven't had any blowers come in where I can keep the starter. I think the factory uses thread forming screws on the two 1/4 inch holes. I used thousands in my old career mounting equipment on relay racks with no threads.

I have a 1990 toro snowblower with the same engine but does not say ready for electric starter but I'm just going to notch the sheet metal so the gear engages properly. It does have teeth on the flywheel and mounting holes as you showed! Thanks for the proper part number I need!

Thank you so much for this video. It was so useful to install the electric start to my snowblower so precisely. Especially the thread tapping tips was great

Use a bottoming tap on the blind hole after using the starting tap, if you have one. Great video. Cheers

Nice. I recommend loctite in the bolts holding it on. They tend to vibrate loose.

Pretty neat...I had no idea they sold a kit like this. Those belt sanders come in handy for knife sharpening. Thanks, Bob and Happy New Year, Man!!

Hi I installed an electric starter on my 8/24 TORO from a 7/24 TORO. It worked great on the bench but for some reason it is not engaging with the flywheel. It was an easy installation but can’t figure out if I did something wrong. Looking forward to your feedback/guidance. Regards

Good Job Bob. The plywood on your harbor freight 1000 LB lift table is 3/4 or 5/8 or what?? Do you think a thinner piece would hold up? Also what would think about sealing it. I just picked up on of the tables but haven't got the plywood yet.

I inherited a snowblower. It has a pull start, that is hard for me. It's also old. But on the panel there is a hole that says electric start. So it looks like at some point there was a button or something for an electric start but I have no idea where it went. No wiring under hole either. Does this mean it can be converted?

Do you have to remove the pull cord? My pull cord broke, should I remove it?

The starter depicted at Amazon looks a little different than the one in the vid; no shroud over the drive gear. Will it still work good?

The link given for the kit from Amazon now shows it's for the higher HP engines,
      Industrial Applications with Tecumseh Engines
      Tecumseh Snow King Engines
      USED ON 8HP THRU 13HP ENGINES - TECUMSEH MODELS HMSK80 THRU 105, AND OHSK110 THRU 13
      TECUMSEH ENGINE HM100-159106L
      TECUMSEH ENGINE HM100-159129L
      TECUMSEH ENGINE HM100-159138M
      TECUMSEH ENGINE HM100-159138N
      TECUMSEH ENGINE HM100-159138P
      TECUMSEH ENGINE HM100-159138R

      TECUMSEH ENGINE HM70-132000B

The one in the video is a 5HP one, so it seems the link is no longer correct for the smaller engines.

I realize this video is a year old but im hoping you are still replying to comments. I bought an old MTD 5/24 snowblower today that the guy thought had a blown head gasket because it has a severe oil leak. Knowing there is no oil in the head on these motors i snatched it up for dirt cheap. Got it home and found it was leaking oil from the breather tube. I changed the oil and pulled the bowl off the carb to make sure it didnt have a stuck float that caused fuel to seep past the rings. I got it back together and its still leaking oil from the tube, pretty badly too. It got dark so i gave up for the night but plan to pull the crankcase vent apart to check for blockage somewhere. I also noticed there is no air filter or housing. Any input would be much appreciated. I haven't worked on many small engines so im unsure if im even going in the right direction.

Good job, I have about 5 of these starter combos laying around, but so far in 10 years I haven't come across a snow blower that needed a starter or needed one installed, I got all the starter combos from my local junkyard for around 5 bucks a piece, and good job tapping, when I see someone tap with a power drill I always cringe.... LMAO

Don't use a longer bolt for the top one it can damage the cylinder wall if it bottoms out.

    • @wingerrrrrrrrr
      @wingerrrrrrrrr 3 года назад

Does the gear on the starter extend when power is applied to it? Was it working before or is it a new installation? Maybe the wrong starter if it can't reach the flywheel.
