one of my dad's biggest complaints about the books were that animus magic was too powerful so that would make sense that she would remove it in the third arc.
(his first biggest complaint is that the dragons use weapons like spears instead of their own natural weapons)

Yeah... more like along with their natural weapons. Spears help to wound from a distance in order to avoid risking your own injury.
Plus complaining about that is the same as saying; "humans can punch so why use guns in a war?"

My friend group and I believe that the thought that you could do literally anything with that much power is what drives them insane, look at turtle for example. He is not insane, even though he uses his animus magic multiple times throughout the books and we know he used it multiple times before then. He wanted people not to notice him, so he couldn't just do anything with it, because he didn't want to be noticed.

Well... I thought that was exactly what Tui implied, wasn't it?
Based in the examples, it was a typical power corruption, just with a little addition of "it'll amplify all you feelings, so if you ever start behaving badly or being mistreated - you'd go insane much, much faster..."
Maybe that addition isn't a thing, but regular power corruption is there for sure. So that's also my hc.

I don’t completely agree with you. Darkstalker was... complicated.. but the way you made your point makes it seem like he wasn’t that bad. No one is completely good or completely evil but just because Darkstalker cried and realized he did some bad things doesn’t erase the fact he almost killed an entire tribe out of spite along with their queen. I like Peacemaker because he symbolizes what Darkstalker could have been. I definitely don’t agree with you hating a child just because they don’t have manners. Also I think since Peacemaker doesn’t have any real memories beforehand he wouldn’t have manners anyways. K bye thanks for coming to my TED talk. (I’m not being hateful just contradicting)

He could have imprisoned him or think of anything but that. He wanted others to fear him. And well with his immortality and such, there really was no way to kill him. He never would have chosen to be peacemaker by himself. If he kept his memories, he would undo the spell and there really wouldn’t be a way to stop him

    1) Wormy 2005 commented this first, I just want to give my thoughts.
    'Hey! Maybe Peacemaker will find one of the earrings that block darkstalker's spells {Since that was basically HIS spell}
    That would be awesome'
There were repliers saying that him putting on an earring would make the return of Pyhhriah's most evil dragon. Actually, when you think about it, he would probably be really horrified. He'd already been shocked learning that he was 'evil' in DOD, and being Peacemaker would give him a new perspective. However, his immortality, invincibility, and other magic things he enchanted himself with to live forever would be erased also. He'd probably just... die. That was actually how I'd wanted him to be defeated. I knew he made a spell that stopped other animus dragons magic from affecting him, so I wanted them to use his scroll piece to take away all of his powers, and cancel his enchantments. Then, Darkstalkers age would catch up to him, and he would just... disintegrate. Crushed into dust by the weight of his sustained body.
    2) Peacemaker represents the life Darkstalker could have had. Since we don't know the exact wording of what was written on the scroll piece, it is free to speculate that Darkstalker is trapped in a kind of mindscape WITHIN Peacemaker's soul. In my opinion, Peacemaker should be a Darkstalker without powers, with the same morals, personality, etc.
    3) I've figured out that every dragon year is about three human years. So, Peacemaker at the end of DOD would be about toddler age, since they can talk and walk like he can. What toddler do you know that has perfect manners? It seems like a bit of a prejudiced view on a reason to dislike a character.
    4) I entirely agree that Darkstalker had every right to be scared about basically being erased and reborn as a new dragon. However, since he thought he was doing the right thing, the option of just continuing as Peacemaker would NEVER have been chosen freely. The scroll plan makes it so that if Darkstalker reemerges in Peacemaker, they can kill him. It's another chance, but it also has a contingency plan because instead of an all-powerful dragon that can't die, it's a mortal dragon. Dark, but it's a smart plan. They wanted to give Hope a chance at a happy life with her dragonet, so this isn't only for Darkstalkers benefit either.
    5) I've also heard the theory that the dragon Peacemaker marries and has a family with is a reincarnation of Clearsight, in a perfect world where they can have a happy life together. That seems beautiful.
    6) I think that you hate what Peacemaker represents. It signifies an amazing character reduced to a rambunctious child, and that's fine. BUT. Peacemaker isn't grown up yet, we don't actually know his personality since he's a LITERAL toddler. In future arcs (cross my fingers here we go) I hope to see him develop into more than what we were shown. Tui knows what she's doing.
That's all folks, this is not criticism, just observation.

*Just gonna kill my queen, and every single Icewing multiple times, oh yea just gonna enchant my dad to disembowel himself too.* *"Oh yea I was just trying to make Pyrrhia a better place."* I respect your opinion, and Peacemaker wasn't my favorite character, but, Darkstalker was evil, no matter what you say. Even if they did convince him, he would still do evil things after a while. And, it was IMPOSSIBLE to kill him. He was immortal. The only thing that could affect him was his own magic. And it would be boring if they just did *"Ok, enchant this strawberry to kill Darkstalker."* Also, you have to teach dragonets manners. He was just poofed into existence. So obviously, he won't have manners yet. He's still technically 1 year old without being taught anything.

I feel like they didn’t have a choice and had to change him. HE LITERALLY TRIED TO KILL AN ENTIRE TRIBE. Also, before he “died” he was yelling at them and saying he was going to rule the entire continent, and they couldn’t do anything to stop him.
In legends, in the middle and end of the book, you can see him thinking evil and very selfish thoughts. He had no problem killing indigo. (Yes he did kill her. Darkstalker didn’t expect her to be saved, so technically he tried to kill her) He also had no problem completely changing fathom and lying about it right to their faces.
He manipulated other dragons, killed tons of icewings, changed dragons against their will, killed his father, ruined his sisters life, almost ruined clear sights life, tried to kill indigo, and lied and lied and lied selfishly without any remorse.i read book 6, 9, and 10 again, and I saw that he didn’t apologize for the horrible things he had done once. All he said was that he forgave clearsight. Not that she needed to forgive him or anything... Speaking of clearsight, before he got out to sleep, he yelled at her (in his head not out loud) and grabbed her wrist and twisted it painfully, purposely hurting her and causing her to cry. But he didn’t care.
He tried to make pyrhia (can’t spell lol) a better place? Yes he did, for himself. Like I said he was incredibly selfish and only cared about himself, not caring how he affected others. He wanted power and control and didn’t care what he had to do to get it, even if it meant ruining and ending tons of lives. He enchanted everyone around him and killed hundreds of icewings without caring.
Of course he didn’t get a choice on changing or not. Do villains in movies and other books get to choose to be defeated? They had to stop him, and couldn’t give him a choice on that. Yes, peacemaker was nothing like darkstalker, but that’s a good thing, because, in my opinion, darkstalker was a selfish, cocky, manipulating jerk.
Whew okay. I know I just went on an angry rant there, but I do respect your opinion and see why you think that.

Agreed, but Darkstalker was more so misunderstood than entirely BAD. Yes, he did HORRIBLE things, but this is a watered down version of Darkstalker:
Darkstalker: This whole world is terrible, my parents always fight, my dad hates me, blah blah blah wars suck.
Darkstalker: no wait I got magic I can help
Clearsight: I think this is a bad idea my dude
Darkstalker: *ruins things* this is fine
Literally everyone: He's evil run for your life
Darkstalker: No I'm fine, you're fine, everything's fine.
And then it just kind of goes downhill. Everyyone calls him evil, which stresses him out, Foeslayer leaves, again more fear and stress. Arctic tries to take Whiteout forcefully with magic, basically mind controlled for a bit until Darkstalker comes to help her. He never had a good relationship with his dad to begin with, plus he's stressed that everyone is now scared of him, angry that Arctic tried to make his sister go with him, afraid that his powers really could be making him evil, and yes, that major chunk that just doesn't care anymore. So yes, he did HORRIBLE things, but in the end, he just wanted to make everyone happy, and he tried very hard, but couldn't. His mom ripped away from him suddenly, his dad loathing him, his friends terrified of him, he was just tired of it all.

'His animus magic was making him go insane' Frozen in book 10 it talks about Darkstalker going insane because of his actions, not because of his animus powers. As said in p.g 339 "'You didn't lose your sou because magic ate it away slowly,' Qibli said.' You lost it because you chose to do terrible things, over and over again.'" So yeah.. Just wanted to peacefully point that out.

    • @Furiora
      @Furiora Год назад

I think what Frozen meant was "the actions he could do because of his animus magic corrupted him, not the magic itself"
Absolute power is a very slippery slope, even for the most pure of hearts. What starts as "I'll cast a few minor spells to make life easier" becomes "I can make that person's life better by healing them" becomes "that person is causing a lot of harm, I'll make him have an accident" becomes "I can stop a war by erasing an entire country" becomes "why don't I just control the world as I see fit?"
Suddenly a desire to do good has given birth to a tyrant, even if one of the first spells they cast was one to protect their soul from the direct backlash from the magic, the raw power alone will twist the mind.

    Ok so several things.
With Animus magic it is implied that the temptation of unlimited power is what is corrupting them not the magic eroding away their soul. This is why Darkstalker could do corrupting things when his magic was in the scroll or when he made the soul protector wristband with Anemone. Animus dragons corrupt their morals not their soul.
Darkstalker is supposed to be a villain you empathize with and understand him NOT sympathize with him. The excuse of his horrible life doesn't make his actions okay or acceptable. Darkstalker chose to do those actions and refused to change himself as a person. He never saw himself as evil or the problem and chose to change everyone and everything around him. He chose to lie to those around him. Not to mention the genocide he committed on Icewings.
No he logically cannot come back. The strawberry was a one time spell. It cannot be removed like Pyrite's necklace. The only way to reverse it is to have another Animus undo it which is impossible Animus magic is broken. (Spoilers for book 14! Boa destroyed ALL CURRENT Animus's powers irreversibly. Only select few people know of Peacemaker's past identity. The likelihood of future Animus (I am unsure if dragons that carried the powers hereditarily can have children that have animus powers due to Boa's Spell) Future Animus's most likely won't find out and or want to reverse Peacemaker's spell. As for the earing theory I think the spell would recognize Kinkajou as the "caster" since she was the one who made the spell. Much like how Chameleon has his shape change spells are spells that he made.
Darkstalker had several chances to change himself for the better yet he chose to double down on the idea that he is not flawed or evil and only he could rule Pyrrhia. Also remember the strawberry spell was structured by Kinkajou
You can like Darkstalker as a character but it is concerning if you think he is justified in his actions. He was flawed, selfish, murderous, manipulative, and unwilling to better themselves.

“Animus dragons corrupt their morals, not their soul.” Oh my god that is amazing, I couldn’t think of a better way to put it. I completely agree with EVERYTHING you said in this comment, with the “corruption” of animus dragons and Darkstalker as a character. I love the description that “the temptation of unlimited power is what is corrupting them” because that’s what I’ve thought for a long time as well - it’s that animus dragons will begin to lose themselves if they don’t consider the consequences of harnessing their unlimited power, and using it for their own benefit. Its just like human temptation, and it’s only natural that would happen, not some supernatural thing.
Obviously people can have their own opinions, but I personally couldn’t agree more with you. This comment is underrated

I dissagree with you abt animus magic i think darkstalker still losing his soul despite putting his magic away in a scroll and ither methods he used is proof of that i think darkstalker was simply doing bad things with good intent and that made him a bad dragon
I think the whole point if the soul reader reading him as bad was to make this point
Darkstalker. Is my fave character bc of his depth and i also think peacemaker is a mistake deleting an entire character and writting over them with a new one is never a good move unless its going to be addressed at some point
I dont get why darkstalker couldnt just be allowed to be the same dragon with a new start
Why did they have to write in character traits for him and decide what breed of dragon he would be? At least if darkstalker had written his own spell for this and decided for himself it would be better

Let me start off by saying that I do also dislike peacemaker, only because his transformation was executed poorly. However, it doesn't matter what darkstalker thought he was doing, he was still making all of the wrong choices. killing dragons, getting revenge on his mother's death when it was really foeslayers fault, etc. All I'm saying is, that's not the kind of thing that is excusable.

i didn't like how the 10th book ended and i'm probably going to make a video about it. The way foeslayer just allowed her babies to be dissembled and rebuilt as a dragonet without his own choice. It must have been malicious as he desperately tried to hold onto his memories that make him who he is, his memories slipping away as he becomes distorted and dizzy as his horns painfully grow smaller and in towards his head, his huge mass disappearing as he feels his body grow smaller and smaller. and just the way everyone was so happy he as gone, the ending was too abrupt and there as too much happiness.

Also Vulture’s whole army became kind of irrelevant at the end and is no one going to talk about how the fate of the ENTIRE ICEWING TRIBE is resting on some earrings. Like there was so much stuff there that was left unanswered and there was a lot more of phyrria that I’d like to see explored, I haven’t got book 12 yet but I’m hoping that there will be more on phyrria in the future because I have a lot of unanswered questions.

He wouldn’t have chosen it himself and with his immortality, there really wasn’t any other way. It really was the author fault for making animus dragons so powerful and to have a villain that really couldn’t be stopped. It really surprises me that once everyone read Darkstalker or have scenes with him, they think oh he couldn’t be that bad. Of course he thought what he was doing was right. Of course he couldn’t understand why everyone hated him. His actions was evil. Enchanting your girlfriend. About to trick your best friend drinking from an enchanted cup. We can try to fix this.
Darkstalker is slightly conscious of what happens around Peacemaker, but at the same time does not understand and cannot do anything, not even know what Peacemaker feels or thinks.
Slowly, Darkstalker struggles and manages to put himself in Peacemaker's mind, though he still cannot see the future or other's thoughts, but he knows what is going on in the real world, and in Peacemaker's world. Over the course of maybe a year or some months, Darkstalker manages to influence the dragonet's thoughts and actions slightly, but the same happens to him, as he starts to realize what he could have been.
Peacemaker just thinks he's a cool imaginary friend, and occasionally sees him in his dreams. Darkstalker befriends him easily, despite his great disgust towards strawberries. Slowly, the timeline that Moon foresaw begins to shift.
Peacemaker finds one of the earrings that erase Darkstalker's spells. He feels oddly attracted to it, and Darkstalker tells him to keep it. He tells him that he really likes it,.. and that maybe it could bring him to life, so they can do whatever they want together.
One night, Peacemaker puts on the earring, and the next morning, when Hope came to wake him up for school, she found a huge dragon that she thought she'd never see again.
    Shall I continue?

I'm not trying to contradict you but I do believe that the scene in darkness of dragons between darkstalker and qibli very heavily hinted that this was more of a superstition than anything else. I would argue that it is the absolute power that corrupts not the magic itself. Now you could that darkstalker thought he was doing the right thing and I agree, I just also believe that his actions are his own doing not the magics. Now they could have came up with a much more humane way of dealing with this issue because darkstalker at the end of the second arc needed to be stopped for the sake of every dragons freedom. But the way in which they did it is contradictory to what these dragons stand for and are essentially no better then darkstalker himself by changing him against his will. Even making the strawberry making him sleep forever would have been a much better plan. Essentially doing what clearsight did, but considering everything it worked. Darkstalker is there no you can't kill him but you also don't change him. If we really needed too turtle could have built a mountain around him or anemone. There were so many better options, it didn't have to be this one.

Darkstalker was borderline abusive. I mean, yeah, he didn’t deserve that fate, but Arctic didn’t deserve his fate either. And Darkstalker didn’t listen to poor Clearsight and Fathom. Whiteout was left as an orphan with only a terrible grandmother left who would never take her in. The only light in her life was Thoughtful. She was left not knowing where her brother was, not knowing if her mother was alive, and ptsd after seeing the tragic death of her father. The nightwings and icewings were left terrified of everything that Darkstalker did.

Technically, he actually wasn't. He said he was caring and believing he was doing the right thing, but after he killed his own father, he turned to Whiteout and his friends, and just glared at Whiteout crying over her father with numerous dragons in horror and shock.
He just glared and decided to leave his sister without even comforting her once. He left for his power.
He didn't care about his friends. He just used his power to impress them so it made them _think_ he cared about him.
In addition, we mostly saw stuff through Darkstalker's eyes. Darkstalker sometimes KNEW he wasn't doing good things, like when he was trying to change FierceTeeth into ClearSight and when he hurt Anemone and bound her mouth shut entirely.
I hate him so much, actually. Who would even like a dragon who tried to wipe out a tribe, kill all dragons that disobeyed him or didn't bow under him, even if they were innocent, he wanted control over the entire continent and all he cared about was power. He chose POWER over his family and friends. I'm glad ClearSight set him to sleep, but I hate what they dod to rid of him. I genuinely wish that he instead would just be tortured to death forever. He deserved it. Darkstalker was the most evil character.
I know some of you think Arctic is the most evil, but no. Arctic said he wouldn't kill his own son in the books. It also noted that, even though the edges of his heart were rotten, he had a warmth and love deep inside. Just an outer shell to cover it.
Arctic was also taking WhiteOut to safety. It's likely Whiteout wouldn't follow him if he asked because Whiteout probably dislikes her father a bit too, but she still loves him, just not willing to follow him. So he helped her by enchanting her to come with him to the Ice Palace to potentially become a Queen and have a better life. He wanted to get Foeslayer back, too. He never was trying to kill her. He also wanted to help end the war with avoiding the Queen's orders of killing his children because he cared about them, unlike how darkstalker just cared about his power.
So there's my rant. Enjoy it while it lasts.
    Ps
Darkstalker was always wayy too op to ever exist. Kind of wish Tui never decided to make any association with him.
I loved when Darkstalker died. As long as he was gone, I was happy throughout the books, but dragons are different from humans, so you can't expect all _baby_ dragons at that matter to behave normally, also considering that he was sort of created at the start, and wasn't entirely raised from birth. And also, one other thing, is clearsight. In scrolls, most dragons most likely see her as some idiot that didn’t realize that darkstalker was evil, when she most certainly did. And, though I don’t know the exact quote, he said something this “but what about clearsight? If I’m dead then she’ll be ever more lost then before!” When he was becoming peacemaker. And this is very true, because he, other the hope, who can never reveal anything, he was the last dragon to actually remember her.

Personally, I like the way Darkstalker was handled. I do agree on using animus powers makes a dragon go insane, but I also don't think it's an excuse for what he did. Yes, Darkstalker did want to do what was right for Pyrrhia but he handled it in a narrow-minded, often spiteful, and sometimes even downright dangerous manner. I can also agree that Darkstalker was a fantastically written character, one of my personal favorites, however, Darkstalker as he was would have never agreed to start life over. Darkstalker by that point was too corrupt to redeem himself. I firmly believe he wouldn't have been able to change.
I also enjoy that they turned him into a dragonet. In a way, Darkstalker is dead, but he isn't entirely gone. They wiped his memory and made him a dragonet, yes, but they didn't completely strip his personality. Darkstalker started as a good dragon, it was only through corruption and insanity he got to where he was. Sure, he was made pretty childish, but that's kind of how kids just... are. If he's about a year old it stands to reason that behavior wouldn't be completely out of the ordinary.

I don't think he was evil. Darkstalker did what he thought was right, and he didn't do anything he thought was evil on purpose. The spell Kinkajou put on him could have been something to make Darkstalker realize all his mistakes, instead of wiping him out entirely with a new personality. Also, if Peacemaker is nearly a year old, he should have a bit of a wider vocabulary and should be a LOT smarter, considering that Anemone is one years old as well, and isn't as childish. #BringbackDarkie

So glad that I'm not the only one who felt bad for Darkstalker and Clearsight. Its been a few days since I've finished the book and I'm still heartbroken by that.
For Darkstalker himself, I think that what made him probably not just the best villain, but also the best character is because of how it was written.
He's an anti-villain. He has a lot of good qualities about him, like an actual hero, but at the same time his actions aren't always heroic and he can look rather villanous.
Having him being turned into a child is not the main problem, the real problem is that they completely erased his memories, what made him the character that we love/hate, turning him into another character that lacks of any of his qualities.
And how they turn him back into a baby? With a spell. Yeah, you know, those same mind-warping spells that usually leads people to hate Darkstalker?
I find it so contradicting to the morals of the actual heroes, this would be like if Sunny or Clay started to murder any dragons that acts like a villain on the spot, instead of trying to find a peaceful alternative.
I like this old saying, from a wise Dovah called Parthunaax: What is better ? to be born good or to overcome your evil nature through great effort ?

That’s illogical though. Just because he thought he was doing the right thing doesn’t mean he *was* doing the right thing. Also, even though he believed in a better Pyhrria, there were still many choices he made that were really only for power, like Qibli explained. He tried to make everything seem acceptable in his mind so he wouldn’t feel guilt.
That said we can easily list every bad thing he did, but that would take to long. The first choice he ever made was to take power, by not bringing Whiteout out of her egg. His motives were very out of line and he was very selfish, even to the point of harming Clearsight. And don’t forget everything he did to the IceWings. (Also btw you’re half IceWing and I’m IceWing lol)
Also all of his horrific choices led toward a extremely damaged soul, on the edge of madness. He never was the nicest to people either, only people who gave him what he wanted.
Also just because you say Darkstalker is good doesn’t give you a justifiable reason to really hate Peacemaker. It’s not Peacemaker’s fault at all, and burning all your hate on him just because you wish another character wasn’t transformed doesn’t make sense.
Instead of hating the character, it would be more logical to hate the fact of Darkstalker being removed, if you really wish he were still in the series.
Not a hate comment, I just wanted you to realize that.

Darkstalker is probably my favorite character, and if not, definitely among my favorites. He was so complicated, and incredibly deep, and charismatic. He had so much good in him, but also evil. What made his character so interesting and relate able, is that he thought genuinely what he was doing was right. Everything he did, he saw that as helping his tribe, and the rest of Pyrria. I'm not saying that he was completely good, he definately tried to kill an entire tribe out of spite. And the way he had his father killed was just brutal. But that's what makes me love him more. He is just so complicated. I would have absolutely adored the ending is Qibli just accepted his animus powers, and helped Darkstalker make better decisions, and become a better dragon. At least if he died, I would be able to say how much of a great character he was. Even though he isn't actually dead, I will still mourn him. I would like to like Peacemaker more, but, I just can't that much. Oh well. I seriously hope Darkstalker comes back, in a very cool, incredibly awesome and story-appropriate way. Great video!

i would disagree about Darkstalker, HE may have thought he was doing good and picking the best futures, but as he was told, the future of the Seven Tribes was NOT his to write, and in the end, he was only choosing the timelines that he liked, nothing more and nothing less. on the night that he hatched he had the opportunity to grant his sister the same powers he had, but no, he denied her, not allowing her to hatch on the Brightest Night. Moonwatcher and the others gave him a chance to do good, but his ultimate desire was not to help, but to RULE...he wanted control of every Tribe, he wanted to wipe out the IceWings, he very nearly DID wipe out the IceWings, and for petty little reasons. his every action was about his own wants and desires, perhaps he had a soft spot for Moon, and perhaps he was even telling the truth when he said it...but he was more than willing to enchant the entire population of dragons to like him just so he could rule the entire world...that is not a good dragon, that is not a kind dragon, that is a dictator and the worst kind of dictator, more than willing to use the bribe of special powers to build an army for himself after his little 'illness' failed...again, just to wipe out the IceWing Tribe, dragons who had done nothing to him, yet he still hated them simply because they were IceWings and that Tribe treated him poorly over a thousand years ago. he needed to be dealt with, but those closest to him still wanted to redeem him, yes, 'Darkstalker' died, but that doesnt make Peacemaker a bad option, his powers made him the way he was, made him think the way he did...he used his abilities selfishly because he could. he could not be allowed to keep them, the threat he posed was too great, i would argue, that it was Kinkajou who showed him mercy, every other dragon save for his mother, Moon and precious few others wanted him dead. and Kinkajou had more reason to kill him than most...yet she still showed mercy...

My big issue is that all throughout the arc, there's the running theme that a dragon using magic to manipulate minds and bend others to their will is always abhorrent. Darkstaker might have been doing what he did for the "golden future" he saw for everyone, but the fact that he uses his power to force others onto his side whether they agree with him or not is always treated as crossing the line. When he essentially "breaks" Vulture to try and tempt Qibli to his side, it's treated as a horrific act, no matter how bad Vulture may have been. Even when Anemone casts a love spell over Kinkajou for Turtle, it's called out and treated as awful.
And yet, that's exactly how they end up defeating Darkstalker, and without a hint of remorse or awareness of the irony.

Honestly, while I love Wings of Fire, I feel Tui T. Sutherland wrote herself into a corner involving Darkstalker.
Sure, he had good intentions, but he was more than willing to do villainous things to achieve those intentions. Talking him down wouldn't work, as even if they could talk past his stubbornness and willingness to find loopholes in the agreements he made, he's still got a nasty reputation to both IceWings and Nightwings that would be incredibly difficult for him to overcome, and would only tempt him to go back to his original plans of conquest.
And to make matters worse, he was immortal and invulnerable thanks to his animus magic. While letting him die as himself would be nice, there's no way they'd be able to kill him conventionally. And even if they could find a way past his magic (like through using Turtle or Anenome), I don't feel Turtle, Moon, Quibli or Kinkajou had the stomach to kill someone; especially someone that clearly had good in him like Darkstalker did.
I feel that Peacemaker was 'the alternative;' a way for them to 'defeat' Darkstalker while still retaining the pure aspect of heroism that Tui T. Sutherland wants her heroes to have. The same pure aspect that kept Clay from killing Fjord in Book 1, even though he's supposed to be the strongest of the Dragonets of Destiny.
Now, am I saying that Peacemaker is a 'good' alternative. Not really. I can see why you wouldn't like him, especially in regards to who he used to be. Darkstalker was an amazingly well-rounded and interesting antagonist, and one that I was interested in seeing more of. But, from my own (limited) experiences as a writer, I can see how Tui T. Sutherland could come to the conclusion that Peacemaker was the best option for her story.
But that's just the opinion of one fan. I appreciate you sharing your own opinion, and hope you have a wonderful day. Thank you for sharing. :)

Oof. I like your Opinion, but I despise Darkstalker. I love how it’s different and completely new. I understand you like him, I just needa vent XD.
Darkstalker... I find him the most evil dragon in the entire of Pyrrhia. He never deserved a fate in any way. I’m on Arctic’s side on this. It wasn’t Arctic’s fault that he turned cruel. Darkstalker... He... it was his own fault he lost all his powers and turned into a stupid rainbow lookin Dragonet. If he didn’t exist then neither would the HiveWings. Clearsight most likely would’ve stayed with her Tribe and made an entire tribe who later killed almost an entire species and enslaved half of my species. Darkstalker was apart of Pantala’s Fate. If he never existed and was killed, then books 11, 12, and the epilogue of Book 10 wouldn’t have happened. Therefore No such thing as Tree Wars, and no such Hong as the Monstrous Queen Wasp Who in my opinion is not even close to the Evil of Scarlet, Blister, Burn, Chameleon, Vulture, and Darketalker.

Idk, Queen Wasp was kinda like a dragon Hitler, since she pushed the genocide and the extinction of the LeafWings and any SilkWing who disagreed with her and her lies.
And I agree on Darkstalker, I liked him for his ambitious attitude and how he wanted to use his magic for good, but he did wipe out half the IceWings for no good reason and wanted to rule the whole of Phyrria even if he had to wipe out entire tribes. (I hate him too btw.)

Also, not only Clearsight would have stayed in her own tribe, but she may have even advanced the tribe's ability to see the future. Since the NightWing's future-seeking abilities varied from non-existent to cryptic and confusing, Clearsight probably would have pioneered in clear vision seeking and helped the NightWing newer generations out with their vision seeking powers.
And you know, the reason why I personally hate Darkstalker is when he first hatched with his animus magic and refused to share it with Whiteout. Even though she was different and mentally challenged, Darkstalker could see that she could use her magic responsibly unlike himself. He also saw that she threatened his power and influence, and that's why he stopped her from being his balancing counterpart. That's why I hate him so much! (Sorry, that last part was venting and I love Whiteout lol.)

I respect your opinion, but here's mine:
Darkstalker was a horrible dragon who deserved no mercy and whatever punishment possible. He killed his own father and murdered countless innocents and children with the plague he released. Who cares if he thought he was doing good, it doesn't suddenly make it right!! And he freaking got mercy! Instead of dying, he was given one of the happiest most peaceful lives a dragon could ever see!

I agree, they made Darkstalker a version of the stupid page-waist that is Kinkajou. I guess that’s what happens when you leave the entire fate of Pyrrhia to the talons of a three-year-old RainWing, of COURSE she’s just gonna make another version of herself because she sees herself as “good”.
I’m not gonna rant about Kinkajou anymore.

i think it would have been much better for darkstalker to realize what he'd done was bad and, like you said, all he wants is for pyriah to be better and then willingly eat the strawberry because he believes pyriah will be a better place and that's what he wants, and then transform into peacemaker but a much more mature peacemaker, not some toddler (or they could have turned him into and OBJECT like what he did with indigo and make sure no one will be able to bring him back)

To be honest, I agree with you completely. When Darkstalker turned into Peacemaker I hated it so much 😂 I really want Darkstalker to come back or Peacemaker to remember “his” past. I just loved Darkstalker as his character and thought it was amazing to have a dragon like that :3
(Edit) I also think it was better off if Tui actually KILLED Darkstalker because (assuming Darkstalker is trapped inside of Peacemaker’s mind) basically the other dragons would’ve been making PEACEMAKER suffer the consequences of Darkstalker’s past and having all that inside his tiny dragonet mind.

I absoulotly agree with you I keep on telling my friends that I’m still sad about what Clearsight had to do. And when he was given a chance to be someone else he slowly forgets the person he loves his friends, family. And not only that but he thinks he is doing the right thing. So this is how I think the book should have ended with:
Darkstalker was frozen he wasn’t sure what he should choose. But he knew in his heart that he still loved Clearsight and didn’t want to leave her.
    “No.” Darkstalker replied.
“I thought you might have said that.” Moon said softly “Thats why we can do this. You keep your mind reading abbilities and memories of Clearsight but you will be a baby with a new name and whenever you want to return to your old self. You can but without your animus magic.” everyone looked at Moon shocked. Kinkajou slowly put the strawberry away while smiling like nothing was wrong. Darkstalker thought for a moment “Ok.”
Darkstalker swept by to Moon asking her if he could return back to his normal self. She nodded and they flew together. As for Foeslayer she completley disguised herself as a new person. Qibli and Moon became a couple. And everyone was happy. Even though Darkstalker missed Clearsight so much. He still had his amazing friends and he was now a better person.
    The end
Thats my opinion but I would love to hear yours :3
    And as always

I've mentioned my love for darkstalker in previous comments so ya. for some weird reason the villains in the WOF story appeal to me more than the protagonist usually do, I have multiple favorite characters (duh) so I can't just pick one... But I love Queen Scarlet. She is one of my favorite characters! And blister, blisters grade 2.
Basically what I'm trying to say is... I FEEL y'a girl!!!!!

“Evil? What is that? Moments ago you defined yourself as a storm. You said you were death itself. Are you evil, then, or are you simply stronger and more awake than others? Who gives more shape to sentient history: the "good", who adhere to the tried and "true", or those who seek to rouse beings from their stupor and lead them to glory? A storm you are, but a much needed one, to wash away the old and complacent and prune the galaxy of deadweight."

I think it was a good idea in theory but they didnt just turn him back into himself but a baby, they just turned him into a whole new dragon. They shouldve kept his personality or his memories or something but it just feels like Tui wanted him gone as fast as possible so we could move on to the next arc

The ending was really messed up, I mean... who the heck would do that to somebody, it's so inhumane that when I read it I wanted to throw the book out the window and I never wanted to see it again, Darkstalker really was trying to help and his last words being "Didn't I help you? Didn't I save dragons to? I'm not evil... I'm not..." reading that part made me feel like my heart was literally ripped out of my chest. When Peacemakers first word was "Hungry" Like, come on, Okay we get that he's like... a 1 year old dragonet now, but still. The ending was so wrong, Darkstalker shouldn't have met his fate with all that fear of losing everything he loved. Because of this I almost wanted to stop reading the series altogether, Like Frozen Gem said, It would have been easier if Darkstalker died. Because if I had that choice I'd choose death, becoming someone else without remembering who I was... would be a horrible choice. Thanks for making this video, hopefully it will make people realize how horrible what they did Darkstalker really is. If Sutherland ever reads this, You need to change the ending, and I mean now. Because this Current ending can cause multiple problems to people, this ending... IS THE WORST ENDING EVER ITS SO TWISTED I NEVER, EVER, WANT TO SEE A ENDING LIKE THAT AGAIN.

Same, the ending was unsatisfying to say the least. Darkstalker did do bad things, but he wasn't necessarily trying to be EVIL. I understand these books are meant for kids, but Sutherland never shys away from filling her pages before with messed up things before, and if the series really wanted to be for five year olds, it shouldn't have waited until now. This was NOT the way to end Darkstalker's bitter story, and Peacemaker feels like an insult to everything about Darkstalker. Either make a scene where Darkstalker pauses for a moment, and finally accepts this fate, or find some other way to end it properly, because it felt like just when book 10 was finally getting good, it just abruptly faceplanted.

I think that a better way for darkstalker to die would be to enchant the strawberry to just remove all of his spells so that he would disintegrate into dust. I would rather have him actually DIE than to just turn into peacemaker, a lil dragonet with 0% manners.

Between knowing that kinkajou created the spell and that there is a way for the spell to easily get rid of it, I absolutely hate that chunk of the book. Tui could have created it much better and giving it a different resolution instead of just getting rid of the character altogether. Obviously he enchanted himself not to die so he wouldn't be able to kill him off but seeing that he was actually going to accept that he was evil and try to be better with his mother helping him it would have been better than the alternative. It would actually help a lot to keep him in the story because as much as I love that we have a new dragon hybrid to go to the school, I also would think that in the 4th Arc (if there is one) there could be more to dark stalker and maybe he would even teach at the school about history since we all know webs is a terrible teacher
