I was just hounding DJI over the weekend about this. When they finally confirmed support was coming, I did not expect it to be 3 days later. This is excellent news, and thanks for the vid!
Quick update: took my Air 2 up for a quick run this morning with the Smart Controller. About five minutes in, screen went black. Power button returned to home screen, and had to reopen app - lost comms for a good 90 seconds. My idle screen timeout is set to 30 minutes (from update fiasco.) Use with caution! Maybe make a point to poke the screen frequently. This is just one report, but I figured it'd be best to share.
Thanks Billy for your info on the latest firmware updates and show me how to do it. Just got my DJI mavic air 2. Can't wait to get home to download the new firmware to my smart controller.
Billy, I FINALLY got the update to work after 3 attempts on my computer, so disregard my request from help an hour ago. Wow...that was a rough update. I would have never been able to figure it out without your post. You are a godsend!

Now that's great 👍 😀 I have a crazy question, just incase I want go back to the original controller for the Mavic Air 2 how do you do it. Or is the original controller still usable without reconnecting?
Nice video.... Question for you. I have already the Mavic 2 pro and I want to get another drone , which one would you choose between the Mini 2 or the Air 2 ? and why ?
Great video Billy, straight to the point. Question for you, do you think that when the mavic 3 comes out it will be pair with this Smart controler or a new one?
have updated but need to re-pair my Mavic zoom every time I switch, I also wished you would have mentioned that mavic Air 2 has no consecutive file numbering, I bought the MA2 based on your review to replace my Air but the file numbering is a deal breaker for me.
Thanks Billy nice job on the walk through 👍🏽. I had to do a factory reset to get the new update to properly install yesterday on my smart controller I still had to do the update with the DJI assistant like you described and then and re-linked the Mavic 2 pro and my enterprise but all seems to be working well. 👍🏽 glad to see it is a DJI issue with the way they rolled out the update and not a problem with the controller.
@Billy Kyle thanks for creating this video. It was extremely helpful. Since you fly with both the Mavic 2 and Air 2 with your Smart Controller, have you noticed any change in performance or range in any of the drones using the Smart Controller?

I guess a lot of people are going to have trouble with this update due to the clutter on the internal storage, delete all the downloaded fw files these are all the RM500 files and while your there clean out cache and all other clutter, pics vids etc, also remove any sd cards, this will give you a seamless update with the DJI assistant 2
The Smart Controller looks great ! But the new smart controller still needs to connect with WiFi from mobile phone, right? If yes, why not just use the original Mavic Air 2 controller?
Hello my friend. I'm new in this, will be buying Mavic Air 2. So, in order to use the DJI Goggles I need to but the DJI Smart Controller right? so I connect the Goggles and the Smart Controller with HDMI Cable. Is it possible to control the Mavic Air 2 Camera movement and tilt (Head Tracking) with the movement of your head using the DJI Goggles? Thank you very much. Sorry if this is a stupid question, I'm learning about this technology.
Great video Billy! When you pair the smart controller to any DJI aircraft, does that mean that aircraft is "un-paired" to the factory controller? In other words, I know I can pair the Smart Controller to all three of my Mavics but do I need to re-pair my factory controller every time I want to use that one?
Hey bud. Can you use apps like Kittyhawk on the SC? Also can you do the Airspace verification process on the SC without cell service? I realized this weekend that I couldn’t do either from my iPad and had to stick my phone into the controller which sucks because I hate flying from that little screen.
What about connection to and control of the Air2? I saw a comment that the Smart controller is Android, while the Air2 controller is IOS (with iphone) and that the Android lags and such while flying? Thank you for your videos , concise and informative.
284/5000 Hello Billy .. thanks for your great videos! I've been waiting for this update. But before I buy a smart controller, I need 2 more important pieces of information: 1. does Airsense work? 2. Is the range with the Mavic Air 2 better than with the Stock Controller?
Thanks Billy - and hello from a fellow Philly native :) I managed to set up the Smart Controller on my Air 2, but there seems to be two issues: 1). The return home button on the controller doesn't seem to work (the one on the screen works), and 2) I'm able to take Quickshots, but when the DJI app starts creating the Quickshots (automatically add music/etc.), it would stop at 50% and say "rendering failed". Have you or anyone else run into these issues?

just another DJI overpriced device
This is a great comment bro
@@billykyle nothing personal. a comment based on fact. if you fly FPV you'll better understand.
Try it the smart controller is brilliant
@@speedbird737 I already have a transmitter for the Mavic and I2. A good monitor with the Crystal Sky. However, when it comes to FPV the costly SC is unnecessary. I'm waiting for a dedicated monitor from DJI or make the CS compatible, which is unlikely because essentially they've dropped support for it. Perhaps a 3rd party will license and come along with an affordable solution.
