I raided our Walmart here in central Oklahoma on Feb 16. Bought dahlias, peonies, lilies, blueberries and a few other spring goodies. Decided I needed MOAR, but when I went back on Mar 6, they were pretty well cleaned out. So if you think you want it, don't sleep on it -- buy it right then.

I double checked Chinese wisteria, wisteria sinensis is very invasive. It will even kill trees by girdling them. It is extremely difficult to get rid of, although the blooms are pretty. The American wisteria, Amethyst Falls, is not an invasive plant like the Chinese wisteria.
I enjoyed the video. I found some of those varieties at my local Walmart. I think I might try the caladium mix in a container. Deer will eat caladium, I found. Also bunnies will devour lilies. I have learned this from experience.

I under grow super vista petunias . Always searching for a different center plant. Astilbe I'm trying this year. It may not bloom, but i hope the foliage will look nice in the center. 😊

Hi Maggie! I have bought quite a few actually over the last several years. Lots of the lilies, bare root bleeding hearts, columbine, as well as the liatris, and most of my astilbe were started from bare root. Also all of my peonies with the exception of 1 were started with bare roots. And just last year I purchased the white caladiums which I grew in a pot, and a couple of the bare root Hosta. I deal with lots of deer so bare root was an affordable way to try Hosta in my garden. Bare roots are great because they are affordable, and easy to plant without having to dig large holes.

@@HookedandRooted Hi Steph, thanks for responding! Oh, I know you've planted many bulbs and bare roots. I was just curious if you plan to add any new varieties this year. I've followed your channel for quite a while now. I'm a long-time fan. :-) Your videos taught me a lot about gardening and plants. You have a keen eye for aesthetics. You combine colors and textures beautifully. Thank you for providing such great quality content - educative, entertaining and always so delightful to watch. I've been rewatching your garden tours these past three months and making notes of things that I would like to add to my young garden this season. I've started some perennials from seed this year inspired by your garden: snowy spires verbascum, golden jubilee hyssop, lady's mantle and yarrow. Purchased a few new dahlias last week - also inspired by your garden. I hope my Walmart has 'Visions in Pink' and 'Sonny Boy' Astilbes (those look stunning in front of your Quick Fire). Looking forward to seeing how much growth the Temple of Bloom puts on for you this season. I'm also excited to see what you'll plant in the new garden bed you've created by your patio. BIG CONGRATS on over 7 million views! Always wondering if your coworkers are aware of your popularity on youtube. P.S. Chocolate chip cheesecake squares were delish! Thanks for all you do!

Had a chance to go to Walmart yesterday and looked for their bare root plants. Not sure how I missed this video when it first came out a month ago, but I couldn’t have planted at that point anyway. I got a number of things and I have to say, I am not sure any of them are going to come up. Just for comparison, I got Liatris at both Lowe’s and Walmart in a pack that looked identical. I planted the 12 from Walmart, but I doubt any of them will come up. They were all dried up and tiny. Then I planted the ones from Lowe’s. All 12 of them were about 4 times larger and had multiple growth points and I think they will all make it. The three Peonies were even worse. Have any of you gotten bare roots plants at Walmart and had good luck with them? Stay tuned. I will report back later.

Yes, you certainly can. Shorter varieties work best in pots. If you have taller dahlias they might need staking and could cause the pot to topple over if its not a large sturdy planter. But the shorter stature ones make wonderful container plants.
