I do not know how far you are, but generally the best solution would be meeting at Baltic Robot Sumo (Latvia Lithuania Estonia), Robotchallenge (Austria) or All Robot Sumo tournament (Japan) and watching these robots in real life. Most robot builders will show and tell you how to build a better one. That's the way how we started.
wow maxon Ø40 mm, i think the torque is very high and it's very light compare than my motor x_x i used power window motor the torque is very amazing :o
