I got a "new" Nintendo 3DS XL from someone at my school for only 5$ since it was in cosmetically bad condition and he just wanted to get rid of it. It was originally black, but after replacing the outside top shell, outside bottom shell, and battery cover with red ones. So I basically made my own "custom" "new" Nintendo 3DS XL that is red on the exterior and black on the interior. I also had to replace the micro SD card slot and speakers due to the micro SD card slot being dented down and the speakers being busted, but it wasn't difficult to do the repairs and I spent 30$ to buy the parts. So I basically bought it for just 35$ after I repaired it, which was less than a quarter than what those go for on eBay! Probably one of my best purchases ever and I'm very happy with it!
The clamshell design is like the gold standard of handheld mobile gaming devices, you don't have to worry about the joysticks, buttons or screen getting dirty or damaged when the system is in your bag or pocket and you still have the tactile feedback from actual buttons and not just a touch screen. I can't really say a Switch or 3DS is better or worse than the other. There are a number of switch games I do really like and I like playing games on my TV but having that convenience, portable option. Though on the same merit, a modded 3DS is pretty fun to play with and there's a lot of amazing 3DS titles as well. Plus you get that library of all 3DS and DS titles, which just gives so many more available games, as well as playing all my old DS carts. Requiring a switch online membership is ridiculous, and I miss the ability to freely just use your own Wi-Fi without any memberships like in the 3DS and DSi era. Some of my favorite games of all time are on both consoles though, personally. I do hope that Nintendo brings back all those customization options for the switch though. I'd love to make custom themes for it, or at least download themes relating to games in my library or something.
Unfortunately scalpers have such a large hold on this console right now, I'd say anything under $200 seems good for a 3DS, but in reality it should be under $100, it's just that scalpers keep ripping people off sadly.
Expect $200 - $1000 depending on model and condition. Any limited edition is going to be $400 plus. Nice ones with CIB will be $600-$1,000. It's not even scalpers. That's just what they're selling for from private owners.
3ds > switch imo dont get me wrong the switch is revolutionary and really brought nintendo out of the “dark” days. however by trying to be both a home console and a handheld, it ultimately fails at being the best in either category. it’s too large to be a handheld but not powerful enough to be a home console. i love the 3ds because it just feels good to play with. the new 3ds series brings the c stick making it feel a bit closer to a modern controller with the right joystick.

@@AzureRT456 It was my first time modding a system and I was able to do it successfully. I think it took me about an hour, maybe an hour and a half at most. Some RUclipsrs with videos on modded 3DS's have actual links to the website that gives all the steps. I recommend finding them because the steps in that website are what you'll want to follow. To do the modding, you just need the 3DS, an SD card that fits the model of 3DS you have, and a computer with a slot for the SD card. You'll be transferring the SD card between the 3DS and the computer a lot.
@@AzureRT456 Odd. I responded to you yesterday, but I don't see my comment here. Do you see it? If not, I found the process decently easy. It took about an hour probably. Maybe an hour and a half at most. It was my first time modifying a system and I was able to do it. I just needed the 3DS, an SD card, and a computer with an SD card slot. Some RUclips videos have links to the website that has detailed instructions on how to do it, so I found those and followed the directions.
The 3ds is cool now, but when it first released it was way too expensive and it also had no games. It wasnt until Nintendo dropped the price down and released zelda ocarina of time and mario kart 7 on it that people started to pick it up more. People also complained about the 3d effect making them nauseous and have headaches (i had those symptoms too). That also wasnt fixed until they released the new 3ds which came with better 3d face recognition. although it is good now, it is important to remember what also happened when it wasnt very popular.
I don't see official batteries on their website currently (they are marked as unavailable, I don't know if they will be available again), but I do know third party ones are being made and probably will for years to come. People still make custom parts for older Gameboys and backlight kits and all kind of things. The 3DS will likely get a similar treatment. There's tons and tons of off-brand batteries and chargers, as well as other replacement parts it seems.
Honestly, even though I do remember how much FUN I had with the 3DS during its time, now that I have my Switch OLED, I'm having a VERY HARD time trying to see ANY appeal to my 3DS. I mean, my Switch OLED has (1) WAAAAY more games (my 3DS collection contains around 30 games, while my Switch collection is already around 790 games), (2) WAAAY better 1st-party AND 3rd-party titles, (3) WAY better graphics, (4) more battery life, (5) an INFINITELY better screen (in regards to size, quality, look and lighting), (6) swappable controllers, (7) docked, table-top and handheld modes (even a "tate" mode for shmups, with the Flip Grip), and (8) single-console local multiplayer capabilities. Plus, I haven't determined the exact reason for this, but somehow I see my 3DS collection and I get analysis paralysis because I DON'T feel like playing ANY of the games, while when I look at my Switch collection I get analysis paralysis because I'm DYING to play them ALL. Also, another HUUUGE advantage of the Switch over the 3DS is the VARIETY of gaming genres. On the 3DS, there are many genres that are EXTREMELY under-represented in the catalog, whereas, on the Switch, I cannot think of a SINGLE genre in which the catalog doesn't have at least 5-10 games that are worth playing. Pretty much the ONLY thing I still love about the 3DS, and that I cannot get from the Switch OLED, is the stereoscopic 3D effect! I adore it! But that's it. To me, the Switch is extremely easily the BEST console in Nintendo's history, and by a long shot.
Switch will always feel like a side-grade to me, because of the lack of a 3D effect. The technology was definitely there for Nintendo to add the perfected no glasses 3D they always wanted, but obviously the negative feelings towards 3D from people who love the flat life and are stuck in the mid-2000s prevented Nintendo from doing it.
But Pretendo still requires to HACK your 3DS I won't attempt that just to have access to Dragon quest 7's 3DS's DLC dungeons since due to the Server shutdown those 54 DLC dungeons went WITH it.
i want to like the 3ds but i hate my new xl (not new it's pretty old at this point)... ive never enjoyed the home menu... the offset slider and dpad to the abxy buttons that make the way you hold it totally akward... also adding to the akwardness is how heavy it is... even for itself the hinge can barely hold up the top screen... and if you want a good grip for it good luck... thet dont make one you can eaither get a shitty silicone wiimote grip (i actually like love the actual wiimote grip, i dont see why people hate it)... or you can get a cheap chinese plastic one that loos just as bad as it feels... i used a switch satisfye grip cut it in half shortened it and glued it together.... still not great but it's the best you can get

Recently I've actually found my old 3DS so I've been playing it lately trying to finish legend of Zelda ocarina of Time
Nice!
Nintendo's 3ds are my favorites i can bring this where ever i go its just so tiny ❤❤
Have an New 3 ds XL Limited Hyrule Edition and New Leaf Amiibo im love this systems to no End.
Nice!!
That also wasnt fixed until they released the new 3ds which came with better 3d face recognition. although it is good now, it is important to remember what also happened when it wasnt very popular.
my biggest concern is these systems not booting without a battery, even when plugged in. this is gonna be horrible when those inevitably go bad
Hopefully the third party market keeps everything going
nintendo is still selling official battery's on there website
I don't see official batteries on their website currently (they are marked as unavailable, I don't know if they will be available again), but I do know third party ones are being made and probably will for years to come. People still make custom parts for older Gameboys and backlight kits and all kind of things. The 3DS will likely get a similar treatment. There's tons and tons of off-brand batteries and chargers, as well as other replacement parts it seems.
theres going to be one of these videos every year.
we need a foldable switch like this
Honestly, even though I do remember how much FUN I had with the 3DS during its time, now that I have my Switch OLED, I'm having a VERY HARD time trying to see ANY appeal to my 3DS.
3DS FOREVER
FOREVER!
I've been playing Super Mario 64 ds ctgp-7 and Tetris
Why is Nintendo Eshop showing every game currently unavailable?
eShop are dead and discontinued
Sadly it's shutdown
Some of my best gaming memories were on it. Absolutely wish I kept mine. ❤😢
Had a ds when I was growing up and never had a 3ds looking to buy one soon to explore many games I never got to experience younger 👍
I'm liking the NDSi XL better 😅
3ds's are discontinued yes but you can still get them used ones but still better than nothing
Agreed!
Still play my 3DSXL . Currently I'm playing The legend of Zelda: A Link between worlds.
You don't need a cartridge to get new games you need an sd card and hshop
Been playing Shovel Knight Treasure Trove for the 3D. Also wanted to use the Amiibo for it
I was playing Mario 3d today on my XL need to get round to starting majoras mask for 1st time ever me.
I wish they still made the New 2/3 DS XL. Great game catalog. I can't reasonably buy a Switch and re-buy a bunch of games. No budget for that.
Took mine out after 3 years to play Zelda a link between words 😊
I use it more than my switch lite
SAME!
Interesting fact #1 Korean region consoles do not have an option to adjust themes. 😅
I got my Nintendo 3DS blue
I have been playing nintendogs and cooking mama. 2 and pinkie pies party and I love my 3ds
Bought one yesterday feel better than switch
Agreed!
3ds will never die
I looooove the 3DS!
Same! Awesome console
Fun fact the 3ds can access a web browser and newer consoles cant
Wanna downgrade from my switch oled to this because I lost interest
Good plan
smaller one is much better
Pinch Soft
Ok
But Pretendo still requires to HACK your 3DS I won't attempt that just to have access to Dragon quest 7's 3DS's DLC dungeons since due to the Server shutdown those 54 DLC dungeons went WITH it.
its not that deep
at this point you basically just lose a bunch of features by not modding it so the real question is why would you not want to mod it?
Why? It’s dumb not to mod it.
Imo, you should mod it because you get way more functionality out of it, and there's 0 cons to doing it
3ds and 2DS are great but the people selling and buying them for 200 dollars are on crack
True
ok
i want to like the 3ds but i hate my new xl (not new it's pretty old at this point)... ive never enjoyed the home menu... the offset slider and dpad to the abxy buttons that make the way you hold it totally akward... also adding to the akwardness is how heavy it is... even for itself the hinge can barely hold up the top screen... and if you want a good grip for it good luck... thet dont make one you can eaither get a shitty silicone wiimote grip (i actually like love the actual wiimote grip, i dont see why people hate it)... or you can get a cheap chinese plastic one that loos just as bad as it feels... i used a switch satisfye grip cut it in half shortened it and glued it together.... still not great but it's the best you can get
