So sorry for the lack of sound during the home tour. I had to remove the music because it wasn't allowed by RUclips (I'm still learning - so much to learn). Just imagine it's a sweet little acoustic guitar with my voice telling you what room we are in!
I survived a horrible divorce and after 25 tough years, got almost nothing. I moved 5 State away with what I had in my car. When I got my first place, I made the decision to only purchase used furnishings from Facebook market place. My whole house was furnished for $400. I could’ve done better than that, but still saved thousands.
I always scout thrift stores and have a great collection of interesting solid wood furniture because of it. Not for me those DIY fiberboard things that fall apart or swell and crack if you spill a drink. I think you did a great job.
Beautiful home. I am in the UK and this house seems very small compared to American homes we see on tv and RUclips but not unusual for homes here. Well done for practicing what you preach. The time and effort your family put into renovating it does you proud. It truly is Home Sweet Home.
Hey sister, I love your videos! Id like to ask you and anyone reading this to pray and believe with us that we will soon be able to get our own lil house to work on...TIA!❤
Thanks. My mom bought that second hand when I was a teen and gave it to us. We really struggled to find a vanity that was solid and quality so my husband turned it into the vanity. We have another for the downstairs bathroom because we liked it so much!
Cute house! And we are the same. We've lived here almost 14 years. We've put on a new roof, downspouting, upgraded the electric service, AC and furnace, completely remodeled the bath and kitchen--none of it on credit. We just start saving until we have enough and a little bit more. Patience is a wonderful thing, both for your peace of mind and your checkbook! I'm all for smaller homes. When I see these McMansions with five bathrooms, all I see are more toilets to scrub.
Your house is lovely! In the UK your house would be a good size.! We have 2 bed 1 bath upstairs, and a living room and kitchen downstairs. Living room smaller than yours,no dining room, kitchen smaller and has washing machine and dryer in it (no laundry room, no cellar) bedrooms and bathroom smaller than yours. it has a 35ft garden.I love our house. As an idea of pricing, our house current market value would be about £425,000 (around 550,000 US dollars)
Holy cow. Thats a crazy price! I suppose my idea of a smaller house is all relative to where we live and what the other homes in our area are like. Thanks for watching!
@@saraconklinfrozenpennies I know!...I have just looked it up, house is about 600 square feet total.Unfortunately that is the average price about 15 miles from Central London
In the UK most houses are old. Mine is an 1908 Edwardian terraced house. Most terraced houses have 2 living rooms and one bathroom. These days a kitchen knocked into the dining room is popular but we keep the front living room separate so its like a snug winter room and somewhere for older kids to sit with their friends too or watch TV. I downsized in 2020 to get rid of my mortgage. Its made a big difference to my finances not having to pay for housing.
I like the way you still managed to get a dining table and chairs into the kitchen, even though it is quite small for an American kitchen. We turned our back door into a window so we could get a table and chairs in the corner. I think every kitchen needs a table as its the heart of the home
Your house is lovely - you have every right to be proud and thank-you for so generously showing us around! Merry Christmas to you and your family! See you in the new year. Cheers from Oz!
Your house is perfect! My home is small too. I grew up in a 700 square foot home which my parents owned outright many years before they retired. Small homes are cozy, easy to manage and just smart! You were very generous to invite us in. Thanks for sharing so much of your family life with us.
I love your sink up stairs. I want a smaller house for all the reasons you mentioned. As I get older I realize I don’t like stairs as much as I use to. Just an idea but I would turn the area with the stools in your kitchen to a cabinet with pull out drawers for a pantry so I didn’t have to go up and down to the cellar. Thank you for sharing!
What a lovely home! And so smart to find just the right home as a forever home. We also have a smaller home...2 bedrooms and one bath. But we love it and as you say, it is a snap to keep clean!!
You have lovely home. We bought a small home to save money. Our house was built in 1950 and is 944 Sq ft. It has a half furnished basement so that helps. The other half is utility, storage, and pantry. We have 4 adults and a teen living here (hubby and I and our 3 sons). It can be done for sure.
Thank you for sharing your lovely home with us. I must say, the most beautiful thing about your home environment is the way your personal joy, gratefulness, and contentment shine forth. 😊
Your house looks nothing like I expected in my mind. But I do love it. My husband and I downsized to a single story home He loved our 3,300 sq ft home. It had 5 bedrooms and all but one had walk in closets. And you know what? It was a lot. It was a nightmare to clean and expensive to maintain. I was so happy the day we downsized to a home I could clean in one day. He’ll never forgive me😂
Love your home! I too have an older small starter home that we have been in for many years. I am grateful for my home and love it now but it took years for me to get it the way I wanted and to let go of my notions of having a bigger more spacious house. ❤
What a lovely, cozy home that you have! And I agree 100% about the benefits of living in a small space. I love to watch House Hunters on HGTV, and when I see the homes with super high ceilings I always think "What the what? You're gonna heat and cool that?!?" Thank you for the tour, and sending Christmas blessings to you and your family.
Thanks for the tour! I live alone with my dogs in a 1000 sq ft villa and I couldn't be happier. I was able to have my mom live with me for the last 5 years of her life and now have an office/spare room with a futon. I agree with you about lower costs of everything from taxes to utilities. I installed solar and my electric bill is negligible. The loan can be paid off by my estate since I have no dependents.
Thanks for your home tour. Love it. Your kitchen cabinets are great. And the green glass sink basin in the bathroom is awesome. Love your fortitude with the 7 year renovation.
Hi Sara, the positivity you exuded in offering your tour brings home the fact that you and your family are in a happy, safe, loving space. Kudos to you and your husband for living the life you want. May your holidays be filled with much merriment and good cheer! From an upstate New Yorker who now lives in CA to be close to my sons 😊
Yay for smaller kitchens! We moved 12 years ago, and our new kitchen is much smaller. Lots of upsides as you mention.....quicker food prep, less cleaning, etc. We, too, have a downstairs cellar for added storage. P.S. Love your coffee plaques/pics! You have a lovely, cozy, well-cared for home. ❤️
Absolutely charming. It’s beautiful. You are blessed in so many ways. Being reasonable has paid off for you. I love your home! Merry Christmas🎄♥️💯🤷♀️🙏🕊♥️
Your home is perfectly beautiful❤ It is furnished and designed to perfection...and so cozy... definitely a home to be exceptionally proud of. Merry Christmas to you and yours🌲⛄❄🙏
What I loved about this video was the contentment you have in your home. Gratitude brings joy! ( I also noticed the beautiful plants!). Merry Christmas to you and a blessed New Year!
I downsized to a small 900 sq ft condo about 4 years ago. I'm divorced. Recently retired from nursing. It is just me and my cat! I paid off my mortgage before I retired. I love my cozy space and how efficient it is to live here! Loved seeing your home! Blessings
You have a lovely home! Its very charming. I love the antique dresser/sink in your master bath. That is awesome. Have a Merry Christmas Sara and family!
I love your house. It's a little bigger than mine. I live in a 670 sq.ft. house - 400 sq. ft on the first floor (kitchen, bedroom, living room) and 270 sq. ft. on the second floor (bedroom and bathroom with a tub) and I do have a basement. I've lived here for 22 years and haven't been able to afford to renovate or even know how to do it. You and your husband have done a great job on your place. There are very few videos on RUclips that show how to make the most of living in a very small place. For instance, my kitchen cupboard space is not efficient. I only have a few cupboards and I'm short. I can only reach the first shelf of each one. I can't get on a stool to reach the 2nd and 3rd shelves as I have bad knees. I have to store cereals and packaged goods in one of the bedrooms. Closet space is almost non existent. One small one in the first floor bedroom and an even smaller one in the upstairs bedroom. But it works as I'm only one person. Thanks for the tour! I love your channel!
McMansion houses - the thought of vacuuming alone would drive me nuts. Then you have to buy HUGE furniture to fill them. I have always liked small homes - they feel cozy. Same with yards - I do not need a HUGE yard, more upkeep. And now tiny homes are popular for many reasons, cost, and upkeep. Your home is lovely. Merry Xmas to you and your family.
Thank you so much for sharing your cozy, lovely home !!! You & hubby have done a wonderful job in making it so special. Merry Christmas & may God bless you !!
Thanks for the video, it’s very informative. One small suggestion though, please try to minimize your hand movements, it gets dizzying after a while. All the best!
I started in a 900 sq ft house, now have 1200sq ft which feels big to me. My kitchen is smaller than yours but I have a utility room for washer dryer freezer water heater coats and boots. Been here 30 years and still working on finishing projects. Not paid off yet due to some rough times and refinancing. You didn't mention homeowners insurance is cheaper is smaller in proportion with the price of a small home too.
I can’t wait to downsize my home. Lol. Like having a little cottage. Def that is my plan and thanks for the boost with validating my logic about it. Across the board with money saving, simplicity, less clutter, less chores. 😬 Older house now also. Actual rooms and doors. It’s big tho with some high ceilings. But that’s what I do now. I block off some rooms I don’t heat/cool much. The front is a large living/dining space w high ceiling. I only go in there to eat pretty much (or entertain occasional company) and just put my fluffy robe on to stay warm. Lol. Your place is so charming. ❤️❤️ I also liked the “quiet” tour lol. No worries there. Hubs did a great job also.

Wow you have got a lot of things in the house. I cut down a lot on things when we moved to our new house 7 years ago. I didn’t know dormers made a room double in space. Our home has dormers, just decorative. we have one story,my husband and I cannot climb stairs as much anymore. Our home is 2069 Sq. Living Your home is nice!
Aren't you glad that TV's went on a massive diet and you don't have to figure out where to put those big tube TV monsters? Our upstairs vainity is also a vintage dresser my husband converted. My husband built our house and had started it before he met me. It still needed a lot of things and the weekend hurricane Katrina hit we got a coupon in the mail for 10% off our purchases, up to $1000 off. Knowing Katrina was going to wipe out and increse house building supplies, we went to Laowes and got our frige, lighting, kitchen cupboards, toilets, lumber, etc. Some of the things we got gave us rebates and I think the fridge came with free delivery which meant that $10,000 worth of goods we bought that day had no delivery charge. so we effectively got more than 10% off. Your house looks great.
This was one of your best videos yet. My house is a small one. My aunt had passed away and left me enough money to pay cash for it, exactly because it was small and old The only thing I did was get a HELOC to pay for a new roof, get the chimney sealed and treat the crawlspace to prevent mold. Much, much less than a mortgage and paid off very quickly.
Thank you for the house tour! I sometimes watch those celebrity homes videos in which some famous actor/athlete/popstar shows off their 10,000 square foot house with enormous walk-in closets that are the size of small apartments, and I think to myself, "Why? You can't possibly use all that space in one lifetime!" In the case of homes I think smaller, not bigger, is better.
In the UK we call tiny bedrooms "box bedrooms" as they are so small. You can maybe get a bed in there or a cot with chest of drawers - that about it, really!
You have a big house for Italian standards 😂 we are a family of three and live in 52mq 😄 have a joyfully Christmas, I hope you understand my broken English. Greetings from Italy 🇮🇹
I loved your sweet comfortable home we got a great deal as well buying a rental from mysisterinlaw and the upstairs was just piece of board in the middle of the floor my husband and ( I am the clean up lady) and now I am mortgage free and it's a amazing home..😊
I’ve downsized 3 times , from family 2,400 sq ft, to after kids 1400 sq ft , now near retirement 1220 sq ft and I know I will go lower in a few years , maybe go to 750 sq ft which I’ve done b4 , your house doesnt sound small AT all
I love your house! Our house was a one story 1400 sq ft ranch on 3/4 of an acre when we bought it. We lived in it for quite awhile with 3 kids and a dog. About 7 years ago we added on and remodeled. Our house is now 2400 sq ft but we use every room! Lots of benefits to small home living. Most people I know live in homes bigger than 2400 sq ft. Anything bigger than that is too big for me.
In order to save money on laundry, my grown daughter says not to separate my darks from my light clothes. She says no one does that anymore. But it’s so hard for me!!😊
I still do it. I'm 62 and my mom taught me to do it that way. Maybe the dye they used in clothes back then tended to come off the clothes a little more and stained the whites.
I have a lot less space in my old house but I have lots of shelves I bought because I have few kitchen cabinets. I have very few cans of food because the rust and bulge but I can so I have better food yeast way. I found that I can can at 11.6 PSI in my Instapot in pints and that is just fine for me (I never can above 10 PSI since it is more than I need for pressure). I also have freezers and refrigerators as well. I don’t have a lot of open space but I have useful space. I find free things and lo cost things to maximize my space so I don’t go to town everyday. I buy fresh food and go to Church and that is what I normally do now while the guys go to work but they don’t go shopping. We live in the country so we are careful with our resources and gas is one of them. We have good prices in comparison to other areas but we do waste resources since that would be money wasted. We fix thing we can for ourselves if that is possible too and that keeps our cost of living down to and the quality up as well. Yes, a lot of work in our area is of mediocre quality sad to say so I would rather do my own work. That I just a small window into our planning. Owe nothing, paid for cars and home.
So sorry for the lack of sound during the home tour. I had to remove the music because it wasn't allowed by RUclips (I'm still learning - so much to learn). Just imagine it's a sweet little acoustic guitar with my voice telling you what room we are in!

Nicely decorated, neat and clean. Home is home.
Similar story to yours and I’m darn proud of ya. You goooo girl ! Lol.
I Def agree that small homes require less money and need less maintenance and paying bills. I agree with you 100.percent. Great video. 😅😅😅

Same here it's an older 1950 home you can block rooms off to keep room heat or cool
My house was built in 1958. It was originally 1100 sf. We added a little and now have 1500 sf. Perfectly happy here, never going to move.

I have found that if a person has a lot of room we tend to fill it up. Going small makes us realize what we really need or don't need.
😂 yeah he loved it because he didn't have to clean it lol. Bet that would have changed if he had to clean it every day.

You got to love American's standard for "small". 😂
Also, the cellar is 100% extra storage and tend to be huge in old houses (not shown).

I didn’t know dormers made a room double in space. Our home has dormers, just decorative. we have one story,my husband and I cannot climb stairs as much anymore. Our home is 2069 Sq. Living
Your home is nice!
Your home seems cozy and sweet.
LOL! Yes on the TVs. My father-in-law was the local TV repair man, so my husband remembers (not so fondly) how much those TVs weighed!
Your house is wonderful! 💗👏
Beautiful home. I love it. ❤
Amazing, thank you for sharing!
Greetings from Italy 🇮🇹
its so funny to compare the sizes of European homes and American homes. I guess its all relative!
I loved your sweet comfortable home we got a great deal as well buying a rental from mysisterinlaw and the upstairs was just piece of board in the middle of the floor my husband and ( I am the clean up lady) and now I am mortgage free and it's a amazing home..😊
I love your videos, very interesting and informative!
I’ve downsized 3 times , from family 2,400 sq ft, to after kids 1400 sq ft , now near retirement 1220 sq ft and I know I will go lower in a few years , maybe go to 750 sq ft which I’ve done b4 , your house doesnt sound small AT all
For our area, its quite small. I suppose its all relative.
What a beautiful home you have, that bedroom wow! Thank you so much for all your good advice, happy new year
Absolutely small home more frugual one can be
In order to save money on laundry, my grown daughter says not to separate my darks from my light clothes. She says no one does that anymore. But it’s so hard for me!!😊
I still do it. I'm 62 and my mom taught me to do it that way. Maybe the dye they used in clothes back then tended to come off the clothes a little more and stained the whites.
Very cute home and there is plenty of room! Two bathrooms is a big plus too. Perfect one up and one downstairs.
Your house is so cute and simple. It's so cozy. Thankyou for the tour. Love your kitchen.
Your office is so cute
Thanks so much!
I bought a small house too; less time needed to keep clean, and no space to clutter .
Love, love your place
