Great for you that you've been able to attend. That's such a sick line up ! Well done review. Seen them in Hamburg this year, and had an absolute blast. They also opened with "Somewhere I Belong" and from there the time was almost flowing away. I think she was Particularly nervous/excited this shows its her biggest crowd she's done. There were a lot of technical problems, and the 2 hour set is so damn impressive.
They had the prompters on the 360 stage as well. Some of the fan cam footage shows them. I have also seen prompters for other bands/artists over the years. I don't think its a big deal at all, especially for band with a new vocalist singing 25 songs that are not songs she has sung for an audience before for the last 10 years. Personally, I could not care less if she looks at them from time to time on songs she has trouble with. She has admitted multiple times in interviews, that some of the songs give her a lot of trouble because she was so used to singing them as a fan and for whatever reason, they have just not translated to singing them as the vocalist for the band. And that is ok because I am confident she gives each show 110% and that is all I need from her.

Excellent assessment. I flew from the States for this show. Completely agree with all of your observations. I also felt that some things worked better than others, but that somehow made the overall performance so memorable. And what a great crowd. High energy for sure. Only critique is more of those fans need to get to know Sleep Token. I was stunned to find out some attendees didn’t know who they were.
I was in paris, had a standing place but not in the pit. Still that energy was AMAAAAZING. but for Sleep Token for me the base was to tuned up sometimes you could bearly hear vessel but LP for me made that up. The whole room jumping to the energetic song and everyone screaming out of their hearts was something truly amazing
I was there, flew from Prague, was 100% worth it!!! I came with general admission floor ticket, just before the concert a girl sold me her LPU pit ticket front row at the barricade, there were just something between 50 and 100 people in the zone, I couldn't believe my luck!!! The performance was 1000/10, unbelievable how good they are live, even better than studio recordings!!!
It was definitely one of the best concerts I've ever been to ♥ Emily sounds incredibly good live, the band (especially Mike) seemed so happy to be doing what they like, and the energy from the audience was amazing 🔥 We're so back 🤘
We attended the shows in Paris and Hamburg earlier on. When I saw how far the seating was from the stage, I was glad we had Golden Circle tickets this time. The energy at the front was incredible for the entire show-I don’t think it came across as strongly toward the back of the venue. With Sleep Token, though, the low-end sound didn’t carry well at the front.
Thanks for your analysis of the concert, Emily doesn’t have to be ashamed of the lyrics which shows that it was sung live without backing. Chester didn’t sing perfectly too, he mixed up the lyrics between two songs at a live concert
I think they sound awesome. I'm glad that "Over Each Other" is an Emily-focused song, after the Emily and Mike bouncing off each other in Emptiness Machine and Heavy is the Crown. But I saw the Paris performance of "Over Each Other" and as a drummer, the rhythm sounded a bit off. It's their first time playing it live but at parts, the drums were way too fast. It's a gentler more mellow track than the others. Something must have been off with the timing of the track Colin was listening too.
I love Emily's version of "My December" she adds a softness that Chester didn't have for that reason I contacted with it more then when Chester did it. I'm not saying hers was better but hit home for me more. Now hearing her sing Numb I find interesting because knowing the difference in the struggles both Chester and she went through changes some of the contents of the song in my head.
I don't think that there's a single song that Emily can't sing spectacularly, but I will agree that her performance of Crawling on this particular concert wasn't a highlight for me. I mean I still liked it, because I think it's almost impossible for me to dislike whatever she does now, however, I definitely prefer her Crawling performance from the other shows and even the first livestream. She also talked about remembering the lyrics and how hard it is in one interview. I don't think she was reading the lyrics every single time she looked in a certain direction - I'm pretty confident she was looking that way even during TEM and Over Each Other and I don't think she'd need to read lyrics for those two songs lol. Not saying she didn't user a prompter at all because she most likely did, but I don't think it was that prevalent. Also, if I had to highlight only one song from the performance... Lost In The Echo... man that gave me chills. (it's really hard to highlight only one but I'll stick to it lol.) Really loved your review though!
Just watched the LP Live stream from Sao Paolo tonight and Crawling was a problem. They should retire a few songs Emily can’t do justice to; it’s not like they don’t have enough in their back catalogue to more than fill a concert!
I almost did the same from Almere in the Netherlands, but couldn't figure it out with my work on Monday. Glad to see you had fun and that it was well worth it! Can't wait to see them when they perform a bit closer to my home. Seeing Bilmuri and Sleep Token in Amsterdam as well, and seeing your review on Sleep Token in Paris I have no doubt it will be a great night!
I was at the live concerts in Hamburg and Paris. I like the new middle stage better than the front stage. Emily is so f*cking good live and I agree that „Over each other“ killed it live. I will go to every concert there is in Europe in 2025/2026 if I catch tickets … Gonna go to see Sleep Token in Berlin on November 22nd. They are so good as well !
Interesting fact, that arena hosted the swimming for the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Plus it hosted 4 nights of Taylor Swift. I am a Swiftie who enjoys heavier music, or rather has a background in heavier music. As an avid Swiftie, this is the arena that saw the changes to The Eras Tour and the inclusion of her new album The Tortured Poets Department. The La Defence Arena is, what I think we need to have a few of here in the UK. A 40,000 arena with a roof or a retractable roof. Ideal for the winter months. I’m a stadium nerd, I just wish we had 2 or 3 of them in the UK. Glasgow, Manchester and London. Ideally Wembley would have a fully retractable roof on it and we could have 90,000 concerts in the winter there.
i was supposed to go specifically for sleep token and with my dad who loves linkin park but we couldnt sadlt T-T 5:45 i love ivs bits while singing there so cool and i love how you can hear him more live vs in the album its rly hard to hear him
You devil getting a last minute ticket. Sounds like it was certainly worth the journey. I missed you at St Pancras by one day.... I was there today lol
I've been hearing and seeing a lot of live clips from their recent gigs. Waiting for the End is her song now. Given Up is just under par, by a slim margin. The rest I've not seen and heard good clips of, so I'll reserve my take on those for when I see them live, I hope that they'll do a gig here in The Netherlands real soon.
I went in as a fan who has been devastated to have missed Chester live. I told myself to manage my expectations, that it was gonna be great but not crazy good, and I'm happy to report that I was wrong ! A few thoughts: .The new songs are insane live, even Over Each Other which I don't really like is damn good played live. can't wait for the live of this madness that seems to be Casualty ! .Emily's live version of Numb is so good it made me fall in love again with this song that I always find overrated. .90% of the old song where executed really well, Emily is getting used to them and you can feel it. .Lost and My December are sooo nice in these versions, and I want more of this calm Emily please ! .The last 6 songs of this 2h show, from Numb to Bleed It Out, were pure madness ! I'm glad they kept such a big roster for the end, as it made for an insane 30min finale that made sure nobody came out of there with any voice or energy left in their body, just awesome ! The only song I would change is Crawling. It's the only song where she seems to be jumping on every occasion she get to let the public sing, almost as if she was scared of messing it up. Either switch to the OML live version (which I think would suit Emily's voice better), or stop performing it. We know there is some songs we will never get to hear live again and that's ok, we'll have to lose old songs to the new ones as time goes by anyway ! As for Sleep Token, I didn't know them before the show and it was a nice surpise ! What wasn't was the sound in the arena which prevented me from really enjoying their set. It was really, really loud and confusing...
I know it's not a criticism just wanna point out what she said during the interview that she has known these songs for 20 years, very well, she knows them, but then it is so hard when you dont hear anything at all and to remember a setlist of 27/28 songs is very hard sometimes, I mean I dont remember words for 1 song when I dont hear anything, so its totally understandable and it happens all the time.
yeah like the teleprompter seems to be a lets have this and hopefully not really need it kind of thing she said in one of the interviews when they were in Korea that yea she knows them but it's different like you said having IEM's in and remembering everything exactly. Honestly I think she checks just to be like "Yup that's the lyric I thought was next cool". anyway you have and awesome day
@@KristenBouwer Exactly. Just like the music cues artists (and especially vocalists) tend to get in their IEMs as sort of their version of a click track, the teleprompter is most likely just there as a timing guide as opposed to a lyric sheet. She's known these songs for 2 decades, she doesn't need the lyrics, but she needs the timing.
I enjoyed this video and reaction. I will give Sleep Token some more listens. I am sorta the opposite Sleep Token's music and look was me as a 16 to 20 year old. I just have moved on from that type of music but I just continue to enjoy Linkin Park at 40.
Go back and listen to Sleep Token as a seasoned 40 year old. You’ll discover a plethora of songs and artists you’ll love and otherwise miss. ( I avoided discovering music a good while because of the emo trend at the time and now see how much I have missed. )
I saw Linkin park show in 2012 with Chester and he sometimes singed out of tone and he also forgot some lyrics. But that’s part of a life concert and that doesn’t mean that the show wasn’t awesome. Even Metallica stay out of tone sometimes. The only 2 bands that I saw that played there musics as perfect as in the studio are Iron Maiden and AC/DC . But that doesn’t mean that the shows aren’t awesome! The vibe in a life gig is always awesome because the ambiance in it! 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻 Still I have to say that I looove Emily’s voice ! 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🔥🔥🔥🔥
To be fair, I believe (I don’t know for certain but I heard at least) that even James Hetfield uses a teleprompter. I feel he’s pretty notorious for forgetting his own lyrics at times lol
Saw LP in London in September. I agree with some of your points. But I need to remind myself that, unfortunately, the perfect version is gone, so what we have now is probably the best we can have, so I am enjoying every single moment.
Do you ever go to gigs solo Steve? Sometimes I want to just go to a show on my own which my friends don't have any interest in but am always too self conscious.
I am not Steve, but I do go to many gigs on my own! I can really recommend it. No one you need to reunite with when losing them in the masses or pits (if that's something you do), you can crowdsurf to your hearts content (again, if that's something you do) and you can spend your time however YOU want. Going with people is nice, going solo also has it's perks. And regarding being self conscious: No one is gonna look at you. Or have you ever paid anything but a passing glance to anyone else in the crowd at a show? You will not be perceived beyond a passing flash.
I almost always go solo, you do you my man. Nobody cares if you're solo or with friends, everyone is there for the same reason as you, which is having a damn good time. Can't recommend it enough. And if you still want friends you can look into the band subreddit, discord servers or other stuff like that to find other people going alone and meet there
Nothing wrong going to shows on your own, I've done it a good few times now and though it feels a little awkward at first, once you realise everyone's there for the same experience as you, it's really fun
If you’re in GA, I guarantee no one will notice or care that you’re alone because it’s just one giant mass of people. If you have seats, it can be initially awkward, especially if you’re in between people, but you quickly get over it and once the show starts no one cares
I think about 25% of the shows I go to I'm going by myself. To add to the comments in this thread: it's absolutely fine every time. It can actually feel sort of special in a way: just you and the music without distractions of people you're with. And if you worry 'will people think I'm weird just standing here on my own?' the answer is: 'no' as to be honest, no one will care or even notice. No one's concerned about who anyone else in the crowd is or who they are/aren't there with. Never miss the chance to see a live show you want to see because you don't have someone to go with. Just go alone 🤘🏻
Wanted to go, but wasted all my chances to buy a ticket (did not join the LPU which could have helped, then the album pre-order early sale code went to spam folder, the public onsale was a disaster even if I was much, much better placed in queue than for the Hamburg concert, missed additional tickets a week or two later, and did not win tickets via Deezer...) Oh well, it just happened that there was The Old Dead Tree concert the previous weekend, which has been my dream for like 15 years :) Plus I was actually in Paris that day (would have to do another roundtrip from Marseille for Linkin Park if I got a ticket). Hope I'll have better chances at seeing LP next time when they go on tour for the album, and yes, especially for new songs with Emily.
I had the same opinion as you. I think we need to give them some time to figure it out. They're getting better and better and still figuring out how to play the songs to fit Emily. I don't agree with Numb sounding better than Chester tho... maybe better than late Chester but not really close to 2012 Chester and not anywhere close to 2003 Chester. I probably will never say Emily sounds better than Chester on Chesters songs, for me he was a perfect vocalist, even when he struggled. Plus I dont really like comparing them. But for me, Numb, Lost in the Echo, Waiting for the End, ofc the new songs were the highlights, and many others did sound great and Emily does do them justice. Also quite nuts, that arena was configured to the brim to fit 45k ppl, most tickets sold out to the LPU even before the actual sale started, and then they were gone in 10 minutes. Seems Linkin Park is no less popular than in their early days, incredible. So happy to see the fans are still around.
Think she was crazy nervous meaning she was so distracted by the crowd. She read alot of the words. See awesome. She has it double hard because like you here, comparing everything to Chester. If it was a new band she wouldnt have that pressure. Shes a great singer in her own right.
She probably knows herself that she doesn't suit some of the old songs but what else are they meant to sing at the moment? As they go on with the release fo the album they will remove some of the lesser ones in my opinion and keep the ones she is strong on such as numb like you say. In the first live gigs I thought she was genuinely uncomfortably singing them for obvious reasons and would pass a lot of it off to the crowd where as 'her' songs she would kill it. I rate her, she's amazing but she's in a hard spot at the moment where the old songs will always be compared
This gig was such a disappointment with how bad the crowd was. You mentioned everyone jumping during faint but I can see even from your video, that wasn't. I was literally the only person jumping near me at the time and I wasnt that far back
I grew up on Lincoln Park but i just cant after chester died. ......Steve dirty loops just came out with a new cover of Stevie wonder. Aaron tore it up on drums.
I do not understand the thing with sleep token. If you ask me its a kind of lame band. They have stolen their thing from bands that actually are awesome, and just made it lame. Emily though is amazing, what an artist and singer. I love her!
@@Deletiriumsame. I was there when LP were where ST is now and loved it. Then I grew up and changed and moved on. Chester or not, I would have been at this gig for Sleep Token not LP.
I loved Linkin Park as a teenager, as many of us did at the time. But we’re all older; things has changed and Sleep Token is that fresh energy with similar themes but is able to add new prospectives... outlooks to our lives currently. 😊 I think Chester would’ve really liked ST. ❤But I also would’ve gone to this show for just Sleep Token!
I can think of 2 vocalists off the top of my head who could have joined Linkin park. Im sorry i dont agree with the new vocalist. Not in the slightest. Is she a good vocalist yes but not for this band. No offense. But Sleep Token tho always perfection!

Whaaaaat! That's an awesome story! What are the odds of that happening?! So cool.
What an amazingly good review. Thank you!
So pleased you enjoyed it! Cheers 💙
The lower pitch when he screams in Vore is a pitch shifter. Noah from Bad Omens just started using one as well.
I enjoyed this video!❤
Excellent review Steve!
Oh interesting, I hadn't clocked that myself
Great review!
Can't wait for the O2. Fingers crossed they keep Vore on the set 🤞
(it's really hard to highlight only one but I'll stick to it lol.)
Really loved your review though!
Thank for your honest feedback and experience...i am so jealous...wish to be there...Awesome live concert👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
I'm so intrigued to what the set will look like (and setlist) for Sleep Token's headline slot at Download. I'm expecting about a million lights!
beautiful review. thank you
Just watched the LP Live stream from Sao Paolo tonight and Crawling was a problem. They should retire a few songs Emily can’t do justice to; it’s not like they don’t have enough in their back catalogue to more than fill a concert!
Emily has an amazing her own vocals style so were chester..I love both ❤❤❤
Incredible review, Steve.. didn't go you went! 😮 Will only see ST 3 Dec at O2 arena..
Fun fact: I actually slept through my alarm and missed my early train back to London the next morning... so yeah, definitely a risk around work 😅
@SteveOGRock haha it was such a nice evening that you slept so well you missed the train 👌
Oh yeah that numb performance was special!
I was there and i agree - Absofuckinlutely, Concert of a lifetime seeing both bands on the same evening..
i was supposed to go specifically for sleep token and with my dad who loves linkin park but we couldnt sadlt T-T
5:45 i love ivs bits while singing there so cool and i love how you can hear him more live vs in the album its rly hard to hear him
Mike is the unsung hero!!Mastermind of LP.
You devil getting a last minute ticket. Sounds like it was certainly worth the journey. I missed you at St Pancras by one day.... I was there today lol
ahhh, so close. one day!
Nice .. I did the same thing from southern Germany. Took a 6-7h road trip to Paris and returned the next day!
🔥
i was at the o2 gig that they played in the round i didnt notice any telepromperts and she was running around most of the time
I've been hearing and seeing a lot of live clips from their recent gigs.
A few thoughts:
.The new songs are insane live, even Over Each Other which I don't really like is damn good played live. can't wait for the live of this madness that seems to be Casualty !
.Emily's live version of Numb is so good it made me fall in love again with this song that I always find overrated.
.90% of the old song where executed really well, Emily is getting used to them and you can feel it.
.Lost and My December are sooo nice in these versions, and I want more of this calm Emily please !
.The last 6 songs of this 2h show, from Numb to Bleed It Out, were pure madness !
Thanks for sharing❤😊
I enjoyed this video and reaction. I will give Sleep Token some more listens. I am sorta the opposite Sleep Token's music and look was me as a 16 to 20 year old. I just have moved on from that type of music but I just continue to enjoy Linkin Park at 40.
Go back and listen to Sleep Token as a seasoned 40 year old. You’ll discover a plethora of songs and artists you’ll love and otherwise miss. ( I avoided discovering music a good while because of the emo trend at the time and now see how much I have missed. )
Any chance you could do a video on The Cures live gig from the Troxy on friday? It was, in my opinion, outstanding
I wasn’t at The Cure’s gig so sadly I can’t review it really
so i was in paris few seats left from you same row ^^, i can relate what you said about numb !
I was there ! Fire concert
Still I have to say that I looove Emily’s voice ! 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🔥🔥🔥🔥
I wish they would come to Australia 😭😭
She said that it is harder for her to learn the older songs lyrics cuz she looks at them as more of a fan.
We went my daughter was giving emily hearts mike pointed at her and started singing and she was recorded singing numb very cool
Comment on lost in the echo during live?
I'm actually not too familiar with that one so I didn't have a take on it
Yes
To be fair, I believe (I don’t know for certain but I heard at least) that even James Hetfield uses a teleprompter. I feel he’s pretty notorious for forgetting his own lyrics at times lol
I think Bruce Springsteen does as well. Again, no shade. Just an interesting thing I noticed.
Thank god every euro I spent to travel for the concert
IT WAS AMAZING ❤
Saw LP in London in September. I agree with some of your points. But I need to remind myself that, unfortunately, the perfect version is gone, so what we have now is probably the best we can have, so I am enjoying every single moment.
The band started all their concert tour with somewhere i belong
Ahhhh I had not realised that.
I was there too ❤
💙
Wanted to go, but wasted all my chances to buy a ticket (did not join the LPU which could have helped, then the album pre-order early sale code went to spam folder, the public onsale was a disaster even if I was much, much better placed in queue than for the Hamburg concert, missed additional tickets a week or two later, and did not win tickets via Deezer...)
Oh well, it just happened that there was The Old Dead Tree concert the previous weekend, which has been my dream for like 15 years :) Plus I was actually in Paris that day (would have to do another roundtrip from Marseille for Linkin Park if I got a ticket).
Hope I'll have better chances at seeing LP next time when they go on tour for the album, and yes, especially for new songs with Emily.
🫂
So happy to see the fans are still around.
yes indeed!
I was literally the only person jumping near me at the time and I wasnt that far back
Of course, for LP but not Sleep Token
Great review thanks.....would be nice if u would give fewers at least a few seconds listening without talking.
How do you replace quite possibly the greatest live metal vocalist ever?
Fast!
Late night and early morning helped! I'm very tired now though... 😅
I grew up on Lincoln Park but i just cant after chester died. ......Steve dirty loops just came out with a new cover of Stevie wonder. Aaron tore it up on drums.
Yes, I plan on checking that out soon 👀
I do not understand the thing with sleep token. If you ask me its a kind of lame band. They have stolen their thing from bands that actually are awesome, and just made it lame.
Emily though is amazing, what an artist and singer. I love her!
I'd rather see a full Sleep Token show tbh... it will be hard for LP to follow imo
ST still played like an absolute headliner. It was a double-header really. Rather cool.
Same. I liked LP as a teen, but I moved on. They just don't do it for me anymore. Sleep Token is keeping things pretty fresh though...
I think Chester would’ve really liked ST.
