I like the idea of using a bead for a thorax. That could be effective on other nymph styles like a pheasant tail or hares ear.

Timely video Shawn, I just finished putting away a dozen I tied up yesterday. Did not double up on the bead but tied some with tungsten and some with just the glass beads. Both in size 16 and 18’s.
The thread body flies like these are simple and deadly. They cover a large part of my fly box
Maybe just a confidence thing, but I'm convinced you need either CDL or barred partridge for "perdy" tails.
CDL is definitely the bomb when it comes to tailing material. Just keep the tails thin. These things are meant to sink quickly
