Beautiful to see them double heading at speed. Tough for those on the far platform where the HS125 got in the way, as happened to me on a cold winter's night in Newbury, waiting to see Duke of Gloucester. I waited for hours on the opposite platform for the best view, but as a train from London pulled in I just spotted smoke above the carriages moving along on the other side! The Duke was late & in a hurry to get away. A sprint over the footbridge got me to the tender as she left in the dark. Grr
yes-a wonderful sight--I bet those people on the opposite platform were miffed as the other train arrived, blocking their view, especially if they had arrived from some distance away.
I'm always happy to see these steam loco trains from the UK and pleased to also see that you have a decent number of carriages as well. In Australia you might get 6 carriages if you are lucky.
Yes indeed, I think its a tragedy and a crime that it once was one of the finest engineering establishments on the planet to be replaced with a few shops and bloody buddleia bushes! Makes my blood boil to be honest.
A Like for your excellent train video. While the other train slows for the station this obviously important train (Cornish Riviera?) would be unlikely to stop at even major stations like this. It was certainly travelling at very high speed so no wonder the passengers stepped back on the platforms as it rushed through. Now, if only we had trains that fast around here....!!!!
@@magicmaybach I worked for British Railways for 35 years and between 1956/66 travelled many thousands of miles behind steam loco's. Never knew one get stopped for snow, even in the dreaded winter of '63. That winter buggered plenty of diesels up though. The fabricated engine blocks on the twin bank Sulzers for example swelled with the ice and the fuel pump control racks could not be put into the "shut down" position.
Theres much worse than that about believe me! You are right - very little atmosphere at Swindon these days. But still great to steam come through. Thanks for your comments.
Advice - if there is a bridge, stand on that to film. I've unintentionally blocked a couple of steam specials with my trains when running into stations.
In terms of Railways; there is nothing finer than seeing a Steam Locomotive. Seeing two is even greater.
Yes I agree. Thanks for commenting.

Wonderful. We used to take the Cornish Riviera when we went on holiday to the West Country when I was young.

Look at all the veggetation there! Swindon now looks like any other station out in the wilderness, how times have changed from what it once was!

Those old steamers never stopped for snow or leaves on the line.

MANY A HAPPY JOURNEY ON THIS TRAIN
Pity about the graffiti on the end door of the last coach. They surely could have had an unmarked one on the rear?
Just a dab of paint, surely
Quite right! and thanks for your comment.
Excellent!
@60103Henry Cheers. They looked very nice.
I'm feeling sorry for those people on the opposite platform, who got the steam train covered by the commuter one....
magnificent!
A bit like London buses - you wait for ages then 2 come along! 😱😁👍😂😱
@letmadnessbegin Quite agree. It was a superb sight. We must meet up sometime!

What a grim (also old English/norsk for ugly), looking station. Brunel must be turning in his grave.
