    Oh, and the beach!! Many ppl may not know about Ocean View where there’s a beach on the Chesapeake Bay. It’s a nice well kept beach that tends to be less crowded and hectic than the VA Beach beaches.

      I always forget about Oceanview and the beaches there, probably because I spend most my time at Sandbridge. But you make a very good point as the ocean view beaches are definitely less crowded

    Hey, DJ! 👋 Don’t forget the zoo In Norfolk. It’s much better than it used to be because the animals are out more in a natural environment than in locked cages. If I was in the navy I’d just find a place to live close to the base and that would help out a lot with traffic. I lived in West Ghent for a while - quiet little neighborhood. And Ghent to the East of West Ghent is a little like a quaint small town within a town. And if Norfolk doesn’t have something you want it’s a short drive to other Hampton Roads cities.

      Zoo is definitely a great spot, my kids used to love going there when they were younger

    I live in Norfolk and work in Newport News. Driving through that Hamton Roads Bridge Tunnel every day sucks. But it's mostly predictable, most mornings are alright, usually zero traffic and 30 minutes. After work gets dicy though, with Friday being consistently the worst. Even in October with less beach traffic than spring or summer, I can't think of a Friday where the drive home is less than an hour, usually an hour and a half, with 2 hours or more not unheard of. Overall really enjoy living here though, nice video, sums it up well
    Cheers

      Appreciate the feedback, I feel sorry for you to have to do that drive everyday!

    I live in Santa Cruz Ca. Getting priced out. I have family in Mechanicsville and when I visited them last summer we spent time in Hampton, particularly in the Buckroe Beach area. I have been looking at homes in Hampton Roads. I think I have narrowed it down to Hampton it Norfolk. I’m 68 years old and would love to bike or walk to the beach and live in a simple 3 bedroom home under $300k. Am I crazy?

      @LifeinHamptonRoadsVA  9 месяцев назад +1

      Definitely not crazy as I think you could find something around that price in those two cities. If you would like I could send you a few houses that match that price? If so just send me an email at LifeinHRVA@gmail.com as I would be glad to help you. Thanks for reaching out.

    Which city hss a faster pace Richmond Va or Norfork Richmond is not exactly like Dc but when i visited it reminded me of a little Dc especially downtown where there are tons of row houses to my suprise like Baltimore and Philly.

      I would say Norfolk as it has a little more to do and is a larger area, however I agree with you in that Richmond has a nice historic downtown, however Norfolk has something similar too.

      @@LifeinHamptonRoadsVA hmmm ok I visited Norfolk but I didn't get to see much I saw all the big ships etc in my opinion very nice city but it didn't have the grit as Richmond did me being from Newark I'm trying to move south but not pass Va and I'm looking for a slower pace but not to slow lol and Richmonds downtown was really nice to my surprise an area called the Fan an Scott's Addition was really upbeat I must come back to Norfolk and explore more.

      If you like true big city living you will love it, plenty of restaurant options and things to do. I prefer a little more country style for my taste!

    Avoid Norfolk at all costs, unless you want own bullet proof jackets. Seriously, go to anyone who lives in Hampton roads and ask them, "Where is the nice part of Norfolk?" they will stare at you like you have lobsters crawling out of your ears.
