I personally think of this guy as a direct ancestor to Armada Optimus. (Being chunky, heavy emphasis on motorized gimmicks, base mode play feature with Micromasters/Minicons...) Too bad we barely see motorized(Let alone any battery-powered) gimmicks on TF nowadays...
Instead we get complex transformations and bots in scale with one another and figures that look like they stepped out of the G1 cartoon into the real world!

Oh, the reason Hot Rod is a Micromaster is because after Cybertron was left devastated by an attack from Galvatron, Hot Rod, along with Kup and Blurr left in search of a new planet they could call home, and the found it on Micro, the home of the Micromasters, so to live in their miniature cities, they became Micromasters too.
I never knew this existed till today. Pretty good upgrade. Puts Optimus up there with the biggest Transformers available at the time. Before he seemed small next to Blaster and Galvatron.

There currently 2 modern version of Star Convoy, the Takara Generations Select version, and the Mastermind Creations version, so there's an official one, and a 3rd party one.

I just got this new off Ebay at a good price considering what people sell their used ones for but I thought I was ripped off because the decals were already applied then relieved when I opened it and found that the trailer decal was applied to the plaster shell. So it was Indeed brand spanking new and the best money ive spent as a collector, I love it.
It is a shame the Stars toyline never gave us Super/Ultra Megatron. I know Generations gave us the figure, but it doesn't measure well next to the G1 Star Convoy.
If Transformers did have a crossover with Sonic the Hedgehog in IDW comics, I think Star Convoy should be Optimus Prime's Chaos form, due to his channeling the power of the 7 Chaos Emeralds (just like how Sonic would transform into Super Sonic). This also mean that his localized name should be "Super Optimus Prime."
He looks neat. I really like the way he looks in bot mode. The windscreens and the gold star look fantastic. Had they ever made a modern version of him? Thanks for sharing, see you in the next one. Nerdmaste'
7:47 a miss chance to make an angry birds joke but its alright Also fun fact star convoy robot mode desgin was homage in transformers animated with optimus prime robot mode and in a cancelled season 4 and a activator toy had the golden star on the chest
The reason hot rod is a micro master is cause of the events of the micro master manga. I don’t really know much about it. All it know for sure is at the end hotrod shrunk himself to micro master size to lead the other micro masters.

Star Convoy is the Ultimate Upgrade of Optimus Prime in Japanese G1 Version while it less super robot compare to Powermaster Optimus much cooler that way

The motorized treads in vehicle mode can actually function as a conveyor belt in base mode, hence why the ramp gimmick at 5:47 wasn't working so well.
