For me I always considered star convoy as optimus prime after the war he would travel across the universe to protect life.

The entire Star Convoy Manga is now collected in English by Viz Media I was so happy to get it when they released all three volumes
I personally think of this guy as a direct ancestor to Armada Optimus.
(Being chunky, heavy emphasis on motorized gimmicks, base mode play feature with Micromasters/Minicons...)
Too bad we barely see motorized(Let alone any battery-powered) gimmicks on TF nowadays...
Instead we get complex transformations and bots in scale with one another and figures that look like they stepped out of the G1 cartoon into the real world!

Designwise, Star Convoy seems to be the inspiration for Animated's Optimus design.
The Transitional ascetic from G1 to Yuusha Brave of late 90s design is telling.
I only ever seen pictures of this Prime. I had no idea that he could roll by himself! That's awesome. Great review Michael 🙏 and great choice by Eric for the Patreon special mission.

Amazing and informative as always! This is my first look at Star Convoy Optimus, and it blows my mind how cool those treads work in both modes, he's probably the fastest moving G1 toy I've seen.
I really like how this looks! Why isn't Hasbro done this item before? I wouldn't mind adding star convoy / Optimus prime to my Optimus prime primal collection.
There currently 2 modern version of Star Convoy, the Takara Generations Select version, and the Mastermind Creations version, so there's an official one, and a 3rd party one.

Personally I would've wanted Hasbro to make Star Convoy figure, I really love that desing (maybe Commander class could've worked for him)

I have the Generations Selects Star Convoy, it's basically a retool and remold of the Power of the Primes Optimus Prime. I like it, a lot
There is a generations select Star Convoy and Super Megatron. They scale to each other.

Super retrospective & what a gorgeous/fun toy. I kinda love that base mode too, it's like a child's fever dream & something you'd see in Scioli's comics.
It is a shame the Stars toyline never gave us Super/Ultra Megatron. I know Generations gave us the figure, but it doesn't measure well next to the G1 Star Convoy.

I just got this new off Ebay at a good price considering what people sell their used ones for but I thought I was ripped off because the decals were already applied then relieved when I opened it and found that the trailer decal was applied to the plaster shell. So it was Indeed brand spanking new and the best money ive spent as a collector, I love it.
If Transformers did have a crossover with Sonic the Hedgehog in IDW comics, I think Star Convoy should be Optimus Prime's Chaos form, due to his channeling the power of the 7 Chaos Emeralds (just like how Sonic would transform into Super Sonic). This also mean that his localized name should be "Super Optimus Prime."
1991 I was a freshman in High School so this one would have been off my radar back then. I find it so strange to think of toys from the 90’s as vintage yet now they certainly are just that! 90’s toys are growing on me especially 90’s Joes!👍😁. Excellent review Mike! Congrats 👍

The motorized treads in vehicle mode can actually function as a conveyor belt in base mode, hence why the ramp gimmick at 5:47 wasn't working so well.

The reason hot rod is a micro master is cause of the events of the micro master manga. I don’t really know much about it. All it know for sure is at the end hotrod shrunk himself to micro master size to lead the other micro masters.

Also fun fact star convoy robot mode desgin was homage in transformers animated with optimus prime robot mode and in a cancelled season 4 and a activator toy had the golden star on the chest

@@MichaelMercy it’s not impossible Takara heavily retooled hasbro releases (Thunderwing to SkyShadow) so it’s not impossible that Hasbro might’ve planned to do the same for a Takara release with an entirely new inner robot and alt mode

Star Convoy is the Ultimate Upgrade of Optimus Prime in Japanese G1 Version while it less super robot compare to Powermaster Optimus much cooler that way
