  • Sheed and Bonzi are shocked by JB Bickerstaff getting fired by the Cleveland Cavaliers after two straight playoff runs and steady improvement with Cleveland over the last five years. Bonzi says it has to be incredibly intimidating to be a coach in the NBA now because it's like if you don't have immediate success you're fired.

I agree. I believe that the GM, and coach expected Mobley to develop into more. He has the potential, but he is young.
I dislike the way the modern game has lessened the importance of post play from bigs.
The fundamental skill sets necessary for Bigs in the modern game aren’t taught for the bigs.
They learn to catch and shoot, and roll to the basket.
If more Bigs, Power forwards played with the overall skill set of past bigs in recent eras.. ball handling, passing from the post, both mid and low post.
      The game would be better.
It’s a plethora of young bigs who have the athleticism, the talent to develop these skills, but they are used the same.
No way 7’ft guys like Issacs should be standing on the perimeter shooting 3’s…
It’s great that the centers and PF have that range, but they need to play differently, to be elite.
Guys like Naz Reid, are successful because of his ball handling ability, his passing ability.
I look at guys like Ayton who just doesn’t care, but he’s frustrating because he has the necessary skill set to be elite, but his mentality is below average.
      My bad for the rant.
I’ve been saying this for a while, I said this before Jokic had his run, because the center position, bigs in general skill set declined.
Regardless, you have to have Bigs who are scoring threats on offense, even if it’s because they are extremely efficient in what they do… Gafford for Dallas, is that type of big.
But they also have Lively, and PJ versatile bigs who are versatile and play both ends of the court well.
I think more teams going forward will get back to basics and start developing the bigs differently.
Hell I’d take the LaMarcus Aldridge prototype in today’s game.
Or going way back Horace Grant.

JB Bickerstaff was fantastic for a Cavaliers core revolving around Darius Garland/ Evan Mobley/Jarrett Allen. But we have to admit that once Donovan Mitchell came into the picture the whole system changed. It stop being about what players could we fit alongside Garland/Mobley/Allen and began being about what players we could fit alongside Donovan Mitchell. I agree, adjustments needed to take time. Earlier in the season the cavaliers won seventeen out of eighteen games. They were beating the best teams in the league and holding everybody under 100 points. This was when garland was out injured. When garland returned, J b gave him back his thirty plus minutes per game and the team returned to mediocrity. Other teams were scoring way over one hundred points per game and the cavs offense suffered as well. It was obvious to everyone except j.B that Garland was detrimental to the team. JB never figured out why they played so well during the winning streak.
How about this starting and finishing lineup for next year. Wade, Allen, and Mobley in the front court. (I don't see how teams will score over a hundred points against those three.) In case you didn't know, Wade was rated the number one defender in the entire NBA at one point. Plus, he's a forty percent shooter from the arc. At six foot nine, what did kevin love have that he doesn't have? Wade gets treated like the proverbial redheaded stepson. (This may be another reason JB is gone.) If you ask me, Wade and Ocoro were major reasons for the great winning streak.
DM at the point and at the 2 spot? Bates/Merrill/Strus/Ocoro.

If Cleveland was smart, they'd try to get Brandon Ingram and put him with Spida, Garland, Mobley, and Allen. If you want to win in the NBA you cannot be afraid of going over the luxury tax. The Pelicans have already said that they may not offer a contract extension to Brandon Ingram. He'd fit perfectly with them because they need consistency from the wing.

excellent take. i am not sure what wrong this coach did to get fired.... no confidence and steady hand in organization. well if it is a big player asking for this then the media needs to disclose to us why rick carlisle left dallas? this is why i like what miami has going on where no player is greater than the organization.

The big players didn’t trust his adjustments. Bruh who tf is garland and spida!?!? Fringe all star at best. Get outta here with tht. And this roster isn’t a championship caliber roster. Starting with Mitchell. He isn’t a 1. He’s a 2 at best. How you gonna discredit the coach for this smfh

Cavs fan here. Sheed don't know what we've dealt with this guy Bickerstaff. He doesn't develop guys, poor rotations, doesn't have an offensive system. Cavs only scored over 100 twice in the playoffs. As a Cavs fan, we're happy about it! He was holding the talent back with his lack of imagination on offense...

People who don't support his firing really haven't paid attention to the Cavs. They should have swept NY last year. And ORL shouldn't have taken them to 7 games. He also doesn't understand how to get the best out of his players offensively. Ohio's teams are always ignored. People who didn't pay attention to them all season shouldn't be giving opinions on them so confidently. Watch over the next 3-5 years. The Cavaliers are gonna be this era's Spurs.
