Their choice to have Syldor voiced by Troy Baker was fantastic. There is a great moment in an interview where Troy is asked about Syldor and he has this whole fleshed out idea of who he is that is amazing to hear.
During the watch along, Troy mentions having a bit of... doubt? envy? self-awareness of limitation? something like one of those, or all of them, at doing a voice like Syldor's where he drops down in his register. He kinda motions over his shoulder at Travis and comments something to the effect of "I'm not one of *them*."

In the campaign Garmelie wanted (I want to say he called them threshold crests just like in M9 but might be wrong) what Syngorn used to move between planes. Can't say more without spoilers.
The Traveler/Garmelie/Artagn had a significant role in the Vox Machina campaign. He will be showing up again in the future when the party has a future trip to the Fey Realm. You may remember a certain iconic scene he has with Vex near the end of the Vecna arc.
Literally as soon as I saw the “pill” and how big it was all I could hear was Professor Farnsworth from Futurama saying “good news, it’s a suppository”. 🤣🤣🤣 Also since we have had both Dominic Monaghan and Billy Boyd on this show I hope that somehow we get the rest of the Fellowship Of The Ring to guest star on this show.🤞🤞
Regarding Artagan (Mid-Late C1 & C2 Spoilers) They did meet Artagan twice in Campaign 1, first when he revealed himself after the Saundor fight and later during the Vecna arc when the party had to escape to Feywild, it was also when they made a deal with him to build a door that would allow him to cross over to Prime Material Plane in exchange for manipulating time in their favor so only an hour would pass during their absence (aswell as... ekhm ekkm doing something to Vax). If I remember well they did built the door "off-screen" after the campaign, which is what technically allowed him to eventually meet Jester. The cast did have a reaction during the Artagan reveal, though it was a quiet and slow realization which is probably why you may have not remembered it. Laura specifically said to Matt when she created Jester that she wanted to worship Artagan, Matt took that and created the Traveler persona which Laura initially took as him taking a different direction but during the reveal you could see a big smile come across her face, she knew it was all a ruse :)
That's also because originally Laura intended Jester to be Warlock with an Archfey patron, but changed it to Cleric after Travis told her about his character concept with Fjord.
Get you a man like Percy who can bestow you a title and build you a magic weapon Also, they added some ridiculous detail to Fenthras - there’s no physical string. Instead, a magic string appears to match the type of arrow fired (I.e. lightning, fire, etc)
Percy can't build magic weapons; canonically to the series, Percy HATES magic. He's a scientist, engineer and inventor; the arrowhead is pretty much a grapple arrowhead, and it's purely a mechanical device.
@@JulianCommodus yeah, I THINK it was like a barrage arrowhead in the campaign and not a grapple arrowhead. But he did give her a special mechanical(not magical) arrowheads multiple times thoughout the campaign but also specifically at this point in the campaign. His gifts to her was him flirting with her, essentially. Because yeah, you're absolutely right Percy hates magic bc he doesn't understand it being a man of science. The only magical item he ever ever created was The List. But that weapon was created with the help of the demon that he summoned... He does get another magical gun that isn't as powerful as The List but if I recall correctly he found that gun...he didn't create it himself.
@@AnxietyRat Percy did build a grapple arrow for her after Underdark, along with three exploding arrows. The arrow you're thinking of is a siege arrow, which was designed to burrow and shatter a wall. The one we saw in LOVM has blades that jut out at the base after initial impact, making the arrowhead expand within the point of penetration. The primary purpose of that is to better secure the head in whatever object it's embedded in. That's a grapple arrow. Also, Percy didn't enchant the List; two of the barrels were enchanted with ice and fire, but Percy paid to have them enchanted by someone else (possibly Gilmore.)
@AnxietyRat From what I know, Percy doesn't necessarily hate magic (he has a few spells from the magic initiate feat, and he has a lot of magical items he utilises pretty heavily, (Spider climb boots being the most common) but he just doesn't have the ability to actually make things with magic.
Matt didn't voice Syldor here, it was Troy Baker who just added layers of disdain... sooo good. And you're not remembering things because they did specifically change things in both seasons just to tweak some storytelling they way they wanted so it flowed better, plus to keep things fresh for those who were familiar with the campaign itself. :)
The actor who is Vax and Vex's father is Ashley Jensen partner in crime from The Last of Us game Troy Baker and Pop Pop voice by legendary Henry Winkler.
I was waiting for you to get to this episode just to see how you would react to Garmelie’s real form! I find it most pleasing when people who only watched C2 find out that there is this whole craziness with The Traveler in C1 😊
Traveller Info: Man, I was looking forward to your reaction to that Artagan reveal XD Yeah, he was in C1 and he even revealed himself to them as an Archfey before they left the Feywild. And as for C2, the players _did_ react to the reveal, they just didn't say anything explicitly because they wanted to avoid spoilers for non C1 critters and to not take away from the moment I assume.
Traveler info: As others have already said this was true to the campaign but for the Teaveler, when making the backstory Laura did ask Matt if it was possible for the Traveler to be Artie but I don't remember if she asked him to consider or how it was asked but she as a player didn't know for sure til the campaign 2 revealed.
If you watch the watch party q+a that critical role had for episodes 7-9, you should hear Troy Baker's thoughts and insights on Syldor. Every one of these q+a's are eye-opening but seeing how Troy view Syldor just shines a whole different light on the situation. Also love how Saundor is essentially an incel, I know Matt described him that way but they did such a great job translating in into an animation!
Having seen the whole season (no spoilers) the only thing I wish is that they'd had one more episode that could have been dedicated to the trip to the bog and finding/encountering Saundor. I really like how they handled it and how they used him, but he translated into such an effectively creepy villain and the way they used him to needle her specific issues was so effective I wish we could have seen that fleshed out to a full 26 minute showcase episode for Vex.
One extra Traveler note (C1 spoilers): - - - - Other than the M9 tie, the other reason they might have included Artagan here is because VM makes a deal with him which probably helped make sure the Venca battle wasn't a TPK. His request was messed up, and forever clouded my opinion of him in campaign two lol.
Artagon reveal: Artagon actually reveals himself as an archfey before they leave the feywild in the campaign. So, really, they toned down the connection in the show for this part. Episode 63 3:52:08 if you are interested in the source.
Traveler info: It happened in the stream pretty close to the show. Except that in the stream artagen revealed his true form before they left the fey wild. Spoilers for campaign 2 Above the table, the players did react when the traveler finally revealed himself.
When Laura created the character Jester, she wanted for her deity to be garmilie, as initially she was going to be a warlock of archfey, but then changed cleric, once Travis took warlock, so mat made alterations so that she could be a cleric l, even though he was technically a god, so mat and Laura knew all the time about it and the rest didn't during campaign 2.
The Grog thing didn't happen, eventually Kraven Edge just sucked Grog's soul out of his body and he was stone dead. Through threats and a few other means they were able to get Grog's soul back and then banished the blade to a pocket dimension they'd been to pre-stream. Grog never lost any of his muscles or had that awful suppository, only thing he lost was a Cursed but enchanted weapon, so he went back to I thiiink his great axe until he got a new magic weapon, a normal one that can't talk or mess with his head. And Wendy, your reaction at the end made my day.
Another thought: this has only recently occurred to me, but in the same day Percy gives Vex that trick arrowhead, it's immediately rendered obsolete when she gets the Fenthras Bow. So, Vex will probably never use that arrowhead in archery. 😄 I wonder if Percy lamented that at some point in the campaign.
Re Grog losing his strength: I think they took the metaphor and made it a physical condition he had to overcome to give more weight for what was to come in his development this season. It wasn’t in the campaign. You are right - Craven Edge was sent to a pocket plane and everyone went to the Fey Realm
Actually, they had a pretty big reaction, behind the scenes, if you look at the top row when Matt is describing what the Traveler looks like, you'll see them figuring it out but stay quiet until Matt called the end of the session. None of them wanted to interrupt the story, but the cast talks for quite a while after the end of the game play. Here is a clip of the reveal moment, though heads up... the video starts a couple min's earlier than the actual reveal, does help set the timeline, but if you remember where you are you can easily skip to right around the right point. ruclips.net/video/TyLbHQTO4Q0/видео.html
It has some super tough competition from prettymuch every other episode, since this season has ZERO time for filler and they're ALL packed, but I think this episode might just be my favourite for S2. It's not as huge and loud as, say Episode 1, but gosh they cover a lot of story and character moments.
I believe in a talks machina episode, laura said that after meeting garmelie/artagan she fell in love with him and that directly inspired her choice to become a cleric (originally wanted a warlock) of the traveler, using the archfey patron. the dick jokes were what made it happen lol
Traveller Info: Laura chose to have the Traveler as her patron. Originally she wanted to play a warlock, but then Travis wanted to play one, so she asked Matt if she could switch to playing a cleric and have Artagan be her god. There was a precedent with Kash getting his power from Vesh, who is not technically a god. The players likely figured that the Traveler was Artagan long before the big reveal, so they wouldn't have freaked out too much
Traveler/Artagan of C2 is the recurring NPC of Garmelie/(probably Artagan, if they give us the 2nd visit to Fey realm in future episodes). Matt used him in both campaign, yet to see if he is in c3
Traveler Info, spoilers for C2 (and kinda C1 but nothing more than was spoiled in the reaction video): In C1 Garmelie revealed himself to be the Archfey Artagan right after the party finished with Saundor. The party calls on him for a favor later in the campaign, so while he has some import to their journey he's ultimately a minor character. Between C1 and C2, when the players were deciding on their new characters, Laura saw the Fey Warlock patron and the pact of the tome. She thought it would be fun to play as Artagan's warlock since it would be a callback without being a direct connection to Vox Machina (Matt didn't want 'oh, we're Vox Machina's kids!' or any of that), and her tome could be a dirty sketchbook like Garmelie's. But then she made the mistake of talking about how cool warlocks are in front of Travis. He hadn't come up with a character yet and convinced her to let him play a warlock instead. So she decided to bring back Jester, her cleric of the Traveler that she'd used in a couple of non-CR one-shots, and worked with Matt to mix in her feylock ideas.
Artagan was not a small char in c1. He may or may not show up again. ;) and the cast had a huge reaction when he showed up in c2 especially Marisha and Travis.
Laura originally wanted to be a warlock with Artagan being who she had a pact with but when Travis decided to be one, she changed it and Matt said he'd work something out. She wasn't 100% sure he was artagan though until the reveal.
Actually, although Artagan doesn't appear alot in c1, his role is very memorable, and there was definitely a reaction from the cast when his identity is revealed in c2 (see ruclips.net/video/TyLbHQTO4Q0/видео.html )
Can I just simply say that the fact Grog is so willing to admit to Wilhand he messed up shows how much he trusts him. Slight spoilers, but goliath herds tend to be brutal and vicious towards any weaklings. For Grog ro go from that to immediately confessing to Wilhand that he messed up is huge.
@richardthecowardlylion5289 you say the traveler didn’t exist in critical role is not giving mercer nearly enough credit. Whether garmelee was originally a separate character or whether mercer always new he was the traveler but never revealed it in campaign one. Only person who would know is mercer
Artagan Spoilers: I can't believe you forgot what comes next with him ! He is not just a small NPC in C1, he is one of the most memorable out of the sheer... shock... about what is going to happen :) I can't wait to see it ^^ Also calling him "The Traveler" instead of Artagan was a HUGE spoiler for everyone that didn't watch C2 ^^*
Arty's cameo isn't fan service, it's an Easter eggs they just Sprinkled in. It's also establishing that the Gods of Exandria have existed long before we meet the party they speak with.
It isn't even an Easter egg. Vox Machina interacted with Arty in the Fey realm in the campaign. They are actually specifically WHY he's able to be in Exandria in campaign two. They, after a couple interactions with him, eventually created a doorway for him so that he could get out of the fey realm. Without Vox Machina he would still be trapped.
Sildor(Vax and Vex's father) is racist and hates them because they're half elves. As for Velora, they did curse more in front of her in the game. As she was sitting in Vex's lap though, Vex would cover her ears at the appropriate moments.
So Grog Spoiler: They sent it to a separate dimension, but only after Pike had to disconnect Grog's soul. Because Cravenedge actually kills Grog and a revivify doesn't work.
He is reval to the team thatbis real name is artagan the second time they go to the fey wild.... And they promise something to him.... Wont talk about that

He is incredible too, one of my favourite VA's! And another friend of the cast, pretty sure he worked with Travis YEARS ago on a game or something like that
@@gazriddell9493 In addition to anything they may have worked on together, they shared an agent and Travis was the best man at Troy's wedding. The story of the elaborate prank that Travis played before the bachelor party is great: ruclips.net/video/Z-_5sJVvZKU/видео.html
@@gazriddell9493 It's always possible, but I doubt it will happen. As close as Troy is to Travis, Laura, and Ashley since well before the their D&D campaign started, he has never been on. I think if he was interested at all, they would have gotten him on as a guest or in a one shot before now.
Campaign 2 Spoiler: The entire reason Jester liked to draw what she drew was because "Garmelie" taught her that. Laura, herself has confirmed that she took that from Campaign 1 when creating Jester.
Man, what is it with all these streaming animated series having asshole fathers?? Invincible has a couple (Omni-Man, Eve's adoptive dad), and of course, Syldor here. To top it all off, they're all apparently bigger assholes in the shows than they were in the source materials. Shock value, maybe? 🙄

Funny thing while watching this RUclips suggested ep 63 of Vox Machina "The echo tree" 🤣
Oh and seeing the Traveller 🥰❤
Get you a man like Percy who can bestow you a title and build you a magic weapon
Also, they added some ridiculous detail to Fenthras - there’s no physical string.
This episode is so full of Percy/Vex romance, I love it ♥
Traveller Info:
Man, I was looking forward to your reaction to that Artagan reveal XD
Yeah, he was in C1 and he even revealed himself to them as an Archfey before they left the Feywild. And as for C2, the players _did_ react to the reveal, they just didn't say anything explicitly because they wanted to avoid spoilers for non C1 critters and to not take away from the moment I assume.
Traveler info:
As others have already said this was true to the campaign but for the Teaveler, when making the backstory Laura did ask Matt if it was possible for the Traveler to be Artie but I don't remember if she asked him to consider or how it was asked but she as a player didn't know for sure til the campaign 2 revealed.
the insane thing is that by taking them from there mother he did the one good thing he ever did, Saved there lives
Dustin, the voice of Syldor is from the man, the myth, the legend Troy Baker.
This is definitely my favorite reaction to this episode, because "Traveler"!
And the cover of the sketch book has a gate on it.
One extra Traveler note (C1 spoilers):

Other than the M9 tie, the other reason they might have included Artagan here is because VM makes a deal with him which probably helped make sure the Venca battle wasn't a TPK. His request was messed up, and forever clouded my opinion of him in campaign two lol.
Artagon reveal:
Artagon actually reveals himself as an archfey before they leave the feywild in the campaign. So, really, they toned down the connection in the show for this part.
Episode 63 3:52:08 if you are interested in the source.
Traveler info:
It happened in the stream pretty close to the show. Except that in the stream artagen revealed his true form before they left the fey wild.
Spoilers for campaign 2
Above the table, the players did react when the traveler finally revealed himself.
Another great reaction. Thanks for sharing with us.
It's all these changes that help make LOVM such a fresh take on a classic story.
01:49 They did - after it straight up killed Grog. ❤🧡💛💚💙💜
Spoiler for c2: Garmelie was one of the personas the Archfey Artagan went by in C1. This takes place before he became the Traveler and met Jester.
Woo! Congrats on the new job!
Thank you!!
Laura really like garmiilie and his arc fey real id so it really inspired her when she created Jester.
Traveller Info:
Laura chose to have the Traveler as her patron. Originally she wanted to play a warlock, but then Travis wanted to play one, so she asked Matt if she could switch to playing a cleric and have Artagan be her god. There was a precedent with Kash getting his power from Vesh, who is not technically a god. The players likely figured that the Traveler was Artagan long before the big reveal, so they wouldn't have freaked out too much
02:45 What is this superb owl everyone keeps talking about? Owls are pretty dumb birds, if I recall correctly.
Traveler/Artagan of C2 is the recurring NPC of Garmelie/(probably Artagan, if they give us the 2nd visit to Fey realm in future episodes). Matt used him in both campaign, yet to see if he is in c3
Traveler Info, spoilers for C2 (and kinda C1 but nothing more than was spoiled in the reaction video):
In C1 Garmelie revealed himself to be the Archfey Artagan right after the party finished with Saundor.
So she decided to bring back Jester, her cleric of the Traveler that she'd used in a couple of non-CR one-shots, and worked with Matt to mix in her feylock ideas.
they run into arti again later....him and vax play a game....dont get choked up...
Dustin where did you get that jersey?! I want it!
Garmelee wasn’t revealed as the traveler in the campaign
@richardthecowardlylion5289 you say the traveler didn’t exist in critical role is not giving mercer nearly enough credit. Whether garmelee was originally a separate character or whether mercer always new he was the traveler but never revealed it in campaign one. Only person who would know is mercer
Congrats on the job!
Thank you!
Artagan Spoilers:
I can't believe you forgot what comes next with him !
He is not just a small NPC in C1, he is one of the most memorable out of the sheer... shock... about what is going to happen :)
I can't wait to see it ^^
Also calling him "The Traveler" instead of Artagan was a HUGE spoiler for everyone that didn't watch C2 ^^*
@@AnxietyRat True but your explanation didn't drop a reference to his maybe-dead-all-along disguise.
Sildor(Vax and Vex's father) is racist and hates them because they're half elves.
As for Velora, they did curse more in front of her in the game. As she was sitting in Vex's lap though, Vex would cover her ears at the appropriate moments.
So Grog Spoiler:
They sent it to a separate dimension, but only after Pike had to disconnect Grog's soul. Because Cravenedge actually kills Grog and a revivify doesn't work.
They changed A AOT in the 7-9 "trilogy"
12:25
"You could never give me what I need."
imagine the caliber of Percy's morning wood, if Vexahlia turns down a whole TREE for him.
Thank you, Scanlan.
He is reval to the team thatbis real name is artagan the second time they go to the fey wild.... And they promise something to him.... Wont talk about that
The traveler made appreance after the fight and will show up again in the final arc

Lets go🔥😁👍🏻
Funny thing: in LOVM, Syldor is voiced by Troy Baker.
He is incredible too, one of my favourite VA's! And another friend of the cast, pretty sure he worked with Travis YEARS ago on a game or something like that
@@gazriddell9493 They are closer than that, Troy was Travis's best man at his wedding.
@@gazriddell9493 In addition to anything they may have worked on together, they shared an agent and Travis was the best man at Troy's wedding. The story of the elaborate prank that Travis played before the bachelor party is great:
ruclips.net/video/Z-_5sJVvZKU/видео.html
@@SpartanGibbles 😍🤩 wow, definitely need him to guest during the campaign now to see what shenanigans they could get up to
@@gazriddell9493 It's always possible, but I doubt it will happen. As close as Troy is to Travis, Laura, and Ashley since well before the their D&D campaign started, he has never been on. I think if he was interested at all, they would have gotten him on as a guest or in a one shot before now.
Campaign 2 Spoiler:
The entire reason Jester liked to draw what she drew was because "Garmelie" taught her that.
spoilers for the traveler, I guess. Jeez.
Levels of exhaustion?
Critterverse
Well, I'm currently watching campaign 2, so I guess that's a one-way street on spoilers. 🫠
