American bittern eating red bellied snake/Butor d'amérique mangeant une couleuvre à ventre rouge

This video shows an American bittern looking for food in our backyard and spotting a red bellied snake, catching it and eating it.
Ce video, tourné dans notre cours arrière, montre un butor d'amérique demeurant immobile pour trouver à manger et puis il vois quelque chose, il se rapproche et capture une couleuvre à ventre rouge, qu'il dévore!

Amazing capture! That looks like a hungry bird, but the big snake doesn't appear to be too happy with the situation!
So can the Bittern really manage to gulp that entire thing down okay? It looks like the unlucky prey was gulped still alive?! I wonder, wouldn't such a thing stand a chance of damaging or even escaping the bird's throat/stomach if eaten in that condition?!
