Acts 2:38 is a great Tipp from Peter on how to be born again. I’m a Baptist, but I see clearly how both, baptism in water and in the spirit are almost in every place in Acts when people were saved. You can’t deny that.

@@Colegottagetguwap Turning from sin is good. But the point is that turning from sin is NOT what saves us. If that were the case then Christ died in vain. (See Galatians 2:21)
If you think you need to turn from your sins in order to be saved, you are literally trusting in your works rather than completely trusting in Jesus Christ. That is a false gospel. Christians who trust in their works rather than Jesus Christ are probably those mentioned in Matthew 7:21:23.
To trust in your works is to affirm that "Jesus Christ's sacrifice was not enough."

it refers to the sanctification of your life, proving your faith is genuine. Nicodemus came at night, "water" had two meanings here: a water baptism - not that it is required to be saved, but that his faith has to be seen by others, i.e. serious, saving faith. And it also meant the sanctifying of your life, if you placed your trust in Christ. Jesus did not say "in order to be saved you must exist"...

I don't care what early "church fathers" supposedly said this verse means. If Jesus meant baptized again he wouldn't have said born again nor would he have compared flesh born of flesh to spirit born of spirit. Irenaeus is erroneous as far as I'm concerned, the Bible says Simon the sorcerer believed yet Irenaeus claims simon feigned belief. Only one can be right and I'm going with the Bible.

Also, what about all of the children in Protestant religions who do not have infant baptisms? Or babies who did not have a baptism yet? What about them?
However, why did Jesus get baptized? What about the other people mentioned in the New Testament who got water baptisms. Can you explain that? Thank you!

The New Testament wasn't written in english but Greek. The word "again" is not used in the Greek. The proper interpretation should read "Born from above" The greek word is "Anóthen" which means from above or from their origin.
1 Corinthians 6:11 - "And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God."

Jesus teaches Spirit Birth which he explains in John 7:37-39
“In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)
This is a clarification of 1 John 5:1
You must receive the holy ghost to be born again.
Jesus Last words we find in Acts 1:4-5,8
Jesus teaches again water and spirit
Acts 1:4 And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me.
Acts 1:5 For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.
Acts 1:8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
I would love for us to speak more on these issues of salvation

The water is a reference to Isiah I believe as it makes no sense for Him to say a man must be born of a woman. Isaiah 12:2-3 KJV - Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and not be afraid: for the LORD JEHOVAH is my strength and my song; he also is become my salvation. Therefore with joy shall ye draw water out of the wells of salvation.
Same with the woman at the well in John 4:10-14 KJV - Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water. The woman saith unto him, Sir, thou hast nothing to draw with, and the well is deep: from whence then hast thou that living water? Art thou greater than our father Jacob, which gave us the well, and drank thereof himself, and his children, and his cattle? Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again: But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.
Or revelation Revelation 22:17 KJV - And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely. Not only that Christ said in John 3:10 that Nicodemus being a master of israel should know these things thereby implying he should have knowledge of this that's why I lean on the Isiah verse being the water reference aswell. 🤷‍♂️
    Hope this helps God bless.

If Jesus died for humanity only, then He died for all humans born. Why would He mention something that was a given? He is giving 2 requirements to enter the kingdom of heaven. The water is either babtism or the Word of God. There must be scripture to back up the verse, it cannot hang by itself. The Word confirms the Word. I am open to change because I seek Pure Holy Truth and this day and age it is rare.

Blessings all, may we all feel His peace. It has been brought to mind to encourage all to ask Father, in Jesus's name for His living water. When we receive this it is a powerful supernatural experience that actually feels like two mighty rivers of waters gushing into our bellies. With this water comes the spirit of the Lion of Judah and we become known to Jesus as He watches through our eyes and hears through our ears. His spirit comes within us, separate from us and is awesomely powerful. He is also there in a heartbeat should we need Him. Please please ask Him as it's real. Hallelujah!
This is what it is to be born of water. To be reborn in spirit requires a name from God and the receiving of a heart of flesh. Ask in His name and receive. Hallelujah!

So no a child can still go to heaven if they die even if they don’t get baptized or receive the Holy Ghost. On the day of Pentecost Peter said, “repent and be baptized then you shall receive the Holy Ghost” (be saved). Baptism and repentance are not meritorious works. They are commands is a means by how God saves us. He saves us through baptism of water and the baptism of the Holy Ghost. You did a good job explaining this. Also, you said the Bible says that "Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God." I always believed that Jesus is the Savior of the world and that he is Lord and that he died on the cross and rose again. Yet I was not a Christian. It wasn't until I prayed the "Sinners Prayer" and I really meant my prayer, is when I really became a Christian. Miracle changes happened to me that only God and Jesus could do. We HAVE to come to Jesus and sincerely pray for help. God knows the intent of the heart. He knows if we are merely saying the words or if we truly are asking for salvation, for Jesus to come into our hearts and lives.

The water is the Word. The spirit is the Word. The Word is both water and spirit. When someone hears the Word and it registers on their heart and they respond, the new birth occurs.

      @nelsonmcatee3721, your close.
Actually, "water" in Jn.3:5 is baptism. There is no reason to give water a foreign meaning.
When Nicodemus came to Jesus that night, Jesus knew he and the other Pharisees "rejected the counsel of God against themselves, not being baptized of John" (Lk.7:30).
Now think about this for a moment. John's baptism was heaven sent (Mk.11:30). Forgiveness of sins was granted under John's baptism (Mk.1:4-5; Lk.3:3). And Jesus sits on that counsel as well.
What about those who reject Christ's Baptism today?
When the scriptures says "they rejected God's counsel against themselves, not being baptized of John" they were rejecting salvation.
But for those who submitted to John's baptism, "declared God just in sending John to baptize" (Lk.7:29), and Jesus promised they would "go" into the kingdom.
"...Verily I say unto you, That the publicans and the harlots >go< into the kingdom of God before you" (Mt.21:31).
Jesus answers why in the following verse.
"For John came unto you in the way of righteousness, and ye believed him not: but the publicans and the harlots believed him: and ye, when ye had seen it, repented not afterward, that ye might believe him" (vs.32).
The publicans and harlots "believed John," they believed his message, and submitted to his baptism. But though the chief priests and elders saw it, they would not repent and submit.
According to the above passages, baptism in water was required to enter the kingdom, refusal, was rejecting salvation.
Now how is one born of the Spirit.
      Peter explains Jn.3:5.
"Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently:
Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which lives and abides forever" (1Pt.1:22-23).
First notice one purifies his soul when he obeys the truth. Not when he believes, but when he obeys "the truth" through the Spirit. Being born again by the Word of God.
The Holy Spirit works on our hearts through the Word of God, when we respond in obedience, our souls are purified.
"Unless a man is born of water (baptism/obedience) and Spirit (through the Word of God), he cannot enter into the kingdom."
When Jesus was speaking to Nicodemus, the Holy Spirit was working through the words. The words spoken by Jesus is truth. If a person is not baptized in water, according to the truth, he will not enter into the kingdom.

Brother, you completely missed the context, you read it but did not see it. What can a sinner believe in when they "cannot see the kingdom of God nor enter before being born of God, the Spirit? You didn't understand John 1:12-13 because you didn't quote verse 11. John 1:11-13 "He came to his own, and his own people {did not} receive him. {But to all} who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, {who were} born, {not} of blood {nor} of the will of the flesh {nor} of the will of man, but of God."
Verses 12-13 are the contrast you those in verse 11, "But to all" "He gave" "who were born" "not of blood" referring to heritage, "not of the will of the flesh" you can do nothing physically or to your body "nor of the will of man" you can do nothing in and of yourself, because you cannot see nor enter the kingdom unless you are born again/of God, "but of God" goes back to those "who were born" they are born of God not anything they did.
To this point you do not fully quote Ephesians 2:8 here 8 with 9-10 "For by grace you have been saved through faith. And {this is not} your own doing; {it is the} gift of God, 9-10 {not} a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them."
Grace through faith, is not your own doing, it is the gift of God.

@@halcyon289 You missed the context, "which God prepared beforehand" not you, it's not about us, but really where did you get "must" that's your thing, I never said that nor does Scripture. You had to make something up, a strawman. Because you have a problem with Scripture.

Thanks for sharing !!! Another excellent teaching . I have thought in the past that the water in this passage meant water baptism. Also, notice that Nicodemus was a Pharisee. Many people think that being a Pharisee in that time was a type of behavior. They will say so and so is a Pharisee. But both Pharisees and Sadducees were groups in which people were members. Also, Pharisee implies that the group was an Egyptian group. That is a different subject but interesting non the less once you investigate it further. Not sure if Nicodemus was a Jew AND a ruler of the Jews or just ruler of the Jews in that time. But somehow Egyptian groups were very prevalent in Jesus' time. Anyway, thanks as always for sharing !!! God bless !!!

The water of John 3:5 IS water baptism. Nicodemus should have known what Jesus was saying, since the OT foreshadowed water baptism in many places, but Nicodemus was hung up thinking about natural childbirth. Verse 8 says that Jesus was surprised that Nicodemus, being a Pharisee and a teacher of Israel, should have made the connection between the water Jesus spoke of, and the water which cleansed from the OT.

@@jzak5723 you’re reading into the text. Water is not brought up again or connected to Jesus’ previous words. Throughout the entire passage, there is a clear dichotomy of physical/flesh vs spiritual/heavenly. That’s what Nicodemus couldn’t understand in that passage: the concept of being born again spiritually. Notice he’s confused by the description of the Spirit in verse 8 right before he says he doesn’t understand. Since he’s confused by these things (plural) it would be what they’d been talking about: the birth of flesh vs spirit, being born again, how to be reborn, etc.

Call it what you want, but I am using the context of the whole Bible to reach my conclusion. Verse 5 is clearly not saying that in order to enter the kingdom of God you must be 1)born a natural birth and 2)born of the spirit. Honestly, think about it, that makes no sense at all for Jesus to give Nicodemus those two conditions for entering the kingdom of God! It makes complete sense that Jesus meant water baptism, and to receive the spirit, since those two aspects were given to all converts from the Acts of Apostles onward.

@@jzak5723 Immediate context trumps all other context. Then you can measure it against the context of the chapter, book, and the entire Bible. Jesus was using a comparison to illustrate the concept of spiritual birth. His frame of reference was a physical birth. Obviously one must be born physically. So being born again refers to spiritual birth. Sure, baptism is an ordinance, but it's not a requirement for justification. Acts 10:47. The gentiles already had the Holy Spirit, meaning they were justified. Only then were they baptized, which was the next step of obedience. You could only get water baptism from the passage in question if you take that verse out of its immediate context.

YOU: .Obviously one must be born physically. So being born again refers to spiritual birth.
Verse 3 Jesus calls it "born from above or "born anew" (in my two Bible translations) which also can be translated as "born again" from the Greek. All are equally correct translations of the Greek word "anothen". Nicodemus interprets it as born again, that's why he asks how one can enter the mothers womb and come out again.
Jesus proceeds in verse 5 to say one must be born of water AND spirit. Verse 6 Jesus is simply saying that there are two kinds of birth, natural and spiritual. Nicodemus is thinking only of a natural birth.
The fact that Jesus lists "two" separate conditions for entrance into the kingdom of God in verse 5,
      1) being born of water,
      2) being born of the spirit,
This should tell you that the water is NOT natural childbirth, but water baptism, since it is obvious as you said and I agree, that one must be born physically to even have the opportunity to enter the kingdom of heaven. So if it obvious, then Jesus would not be including natural childbirth as one of the conditions for entering the kingdom of God, but must be referring to water baptism, which we see later as being an integral part conversion for those becoming Christian, along with receiving the spirit. This means that water baptism is not optional, but a requirement for salvation. If it's not, as you seem to think, then why did Jesus say in Matt. 28:19 to go make disciples of all nations, BAPTIZING them in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit AND teaching them all I have commanded you? This certainly wasn't referring to only spiritual baptism.

How can your title say you must be born of water and of the spirit and then turn around and tell people that they don’t have to be water baptized you are a false preacher and you have been exposed people do need to be water baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of your sins Acts 2 verse 38 and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost which is being born of the spirit
