Grey Matter: The dark tissue of the brain and spinal cord, consisting mainly of nerve cell bodies and branching dendrites. White Matter: The paler tissue of the brain and spinal cord, which consists of nerve fibres with myelinated axons.
A great bite-sized chunk of information. Just what I needed, as a new A&P student! If it's too long or slow for you, just change the playback speed of course. It was perfect for me & my ADHD.
@@enuffbruhh LMFAO. I’m not going thru a break up but this is still funny cause when I was I would be on an imbalanced information overload frenzy binge to take my mind off things
Thank you for this. I have severe cervical stenosis and was just given my first MRI four years later and now found White matter brain disease. I had the MRI because the symptoms were very much like MS and I was growing concerned but there were no MS lesions. This helped me understand so much more what is occurring.
Question- So are the Nuclei in the gray matter of the brain self sustaining cells? I am confused because a nucleus is usually the control center WITHIN a cell
🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation: 00:00 🧠 Gray matter holds neuron somas, and white matter has myelinated axons. 01:04 📚 Spinal cord's gray matter forms an "H," with white matter surrounding it. 03:03 🧠 Brain's gray matter is the cortex, while white matter is deep within. 04:57 🧠 Brain's deep gray matter is nuclei, and axon groups are tracts. 05:55 🧠 Central nervous system handles cognition, emotion, and consciousness, with a key role for the cerebral cortex. If this was a good video, it would explain first what a nerve cell looks like. That the "soma" is the body of the cell and the "axon" is like a cable to transfer impulses from cell to cell.. Then gray and white matter would make more sense immediately.
ganglion is a site where there are a lot of PNS neurons. Pre GNs are nerves that synapse with the ganglion. Post GNs are nerves that emanate from the ganglion to the target cell
Could you please tell me if a brain has evidence of a generalised extensive white matter injury typically seen in children born prematurely would it be expected that there spine also would be effected by white matter?
My 82 year old mother has recently had a CT scan and "chronic micrroangiopathic changes" we're noted in the report ....she has developed very patchy short term memory over the last 18 months and had several falls...she takes metformin for type 2 diabetes ,but stopped taking her meteor in for about a year ....can anyone connect the above info....as White matter disease came up when I typed in chronic micrroangiopathic changes...
violinsheets it is the collective neurones initially collecting around the brain stem, with the white matter/cerebrospinal fluid coating the spinal cord on the outside.
I can't answer exactly, but it might be helpful to understand that the white matter is axons (signal conveying 'cables') that are running UP & DOWN in the spinal cord, conveying both motor and sensory information/signals, and the grey matter is the cell bodies (soma) & dendrites (inputs to those soma) which interface to some of those axons .

Great reply ever 🙂
Thx helped a lot
Saved my time man😂
summarizes the whole video so just memorize this ^^

Why is this the only video I can find about grey matter on the brain? This is awesome. Thank you!
You went through a break up too?
Dr huberman has videos on this. He is a brain docta... 😂 he has video's on youtube and Spotify

This 6 mins video from Khan Academy was by the far the best explanation than my whole semester in class. Thank you Khan Academy!

This video explained and helped me understand what my college professor could not. Thank you khanacademy!
I wish I had you in front of my biology class in high school. So clear and informative, thank you!
i have no reason to watch this or take notes, yet here I am. Proof that people WANT to learn if it isn't shoved down their throat by law
The amount of actual good information from this video could have been said in just a few sentences instead of 6 minutes...
Yeah ....I felt the same
May be he did it for the sake of slow learners like me
Why don’t you make a research video then ?
@@duma70 didn’t know some people could not learn topics simply for being slow learners.
@@harrietchumba8064 i’m glad he was slow on the topic, it helped me understand if just in a rudimentary sense
Very informative. Thank you. 😊

In this case it's the name given to a group of nerve cells in the PNS it's called ganglia in the CNS it's called nuclei
Please can you put the links for the pectures used for this video, they are so helpful.
thank you for explaining this so clearly and in such detail. Perfect!
I stumbled across your video. This is really well done. Liked and subscribed.
Easiest to understand ever!!!
This is a very good videos I'm studying Anatomy right now I've been having trouble now I have a better understanding of anatomy thank

Excellent video with a clear explanation :)
Thank you so much this helped a lot!! 😅
Great video! Thank you so much.
You need to mention how it's different in male's and female's bodies and how it's manifested in life.

+j5hp There are videos that explain that stuff previous to this one by either Khan Academy or Khan Academy Medicine :)
thank god that wasn't on the video, i'll much rather go straight to the point, has Sam M explained, there are specific videos on youtube for that
Perfect example of jumping to conclusions
Imagine if grey matter became life itself. #thegreys
Great explanation 👍
when did Vanoss start teaching anatomy?
So relaxed while watching, thank you.
perfection of explanation

Amazing, thanks for sharing!

Ok i'll leave

Sir so basically the cell body of neuron face inside forming grey matter and axon part of it face outside forming white matter?
I have brain glioma/ demyelinting leson in frontal lobe sub cortical white matter location .its treatment is medication or?
Thank you :)
I am deeply distracted and slightly disturbed by how neatly this person can draw freehand digitally.
What if the gray white matter pattern is intact?

How about dark matter?
But before we get into that, first let's talk parallel universes

Cell bodies are white mater or grey
Why grey matter and white matter arrangement is different in brain and spinal cord ...? Anyone
Nice
Brain frontal lobe Sub cortical white matter location is safe or not safe for surgery? We know location is factor for surgery
So why is the gray matter on the inside for the spinal cord??
violinsheets it is the collective neurones initially collecting around the brain stem, with the white matter/cerebrospinal fluid coating the spinal cord on the outside.

Awesome art skills! Jesus!
What is the treatment of white peas?
Why cerebrum has its surface gray but the upper surface of the spinal cord is white ?????🙄🙄🙄
What do u mean by very simple ?@Tsai-Ann Hernandez
i think they meant the video tutorial was simple not the brain itself.
Can grey matter repair from a nuerotoxin drug? Benzodiazepine toxicity?

How long can we live.????
gray-white differentiation is maintained what does this mean
I also want to know what this means,my CT scam says the same thing!
