68 seconds! I can’t believe this made it on air as is. Surely, they’d have stopped & reset these days. Reminds me how much I miss those moments on game shows when things go wrong...
If you watch The Perfect Bid when they do these shows to time then you don't need to edit these moments out. For all the models chats and bloopers/extras we got in earlier years they seemed to be a machine on doing these shows efficiently.
I think it really comes through in this clip, but Rod Roddy was a very jovial person, and fairly unflappable in his duties as an announcer. I was a guest of the show in the early 1990s and got to meet Rod during rehearsal before the audience was loaded. He couldn't have been nicer. A real pro. Rest in peace, Rod Roddy.
I attended 7 tapings in 2018-2019 and I don’t like how you have to read the name on the card because you can’t even hear the persons name being called because the crowd is insanely loud. I liked these days when they told the audience to be quiet when people were getting called down
I attended a taping of the show in the early 2000's and it is extremly noisy in the studio. It is so loud that you cant hear the announcer especially during the intro when they are calling the first four contestants. So they use large cue cards with the contestants name on them. Its possible that the wrong name was on the cue card, so she never came on down. After the commercial break when they go to call the next contestant, the audience is quiet until the next name is called it was at this point that Nicole could hear her name clearly. This is of course my guess based on when I observed when i was there.
Wonder if the CBS ticketing department's computers hit a stack overflow the night before...? Well, anyway... OK, Bob, Rod and Contestants' Row; everyone back to your places, and let's take it from the top again.
@@a.grimes4202 looking back on it now i dont know whats more strange. bob getting barrington out of thorenson or them getting thorenson out of thornbrough
@@GarryGriffy Yeah it’s like that audio file from a few years ago that went viral, where some people heard one name and others heard another? Sorry I’m drawing a blank on the names, but I’m sure you know the meme to which I refer.
I remember this!!! This was right around the time of their 5,000th episode too. I had just started summer vacation after 8th grade. The Seinfeld finale had just aired a couple weeks earlier. I can't believe how long ago this was 😲

Also just one of the reasons why they put names on cue cards and flash them to the audience...so you can "see" your name being called.
Correct, not sure if they were doing this 20 years ago though. When I attended a taping in 2013, they were...

@@garrettsimms-rowe8531 I agree. I hate how producers began to whip the crowd into a frenzy.
@@manofmanyinterests The show is about excitement.
@@jeepthing98 They were doing this to the first tapings I went to back in 2003.
That's not you sit down LOL
I loved when Rod would say stuff like that 🤣
Rod Roddy was The Best announcer rest in peace Bob and Rod.
At least she was called to Come on Down Jesse.

Petition to make the thumbnail of this video a meme
Hey, also take in the fact you got a crowd of screaming people, that can take a hit on the hearing.
Who remembers Susan DuPont 15 years earlier?

TPIR had almost this same problem in 1984.
Susan Derbeck, Come on Down!
on that incident the contestant forgot her own last name
@@garrygriffy1866 no she said something about changing to her husbands last name
This kind of reminds me of that whole LAUREL YANNY thing from a couple years back

Rod seemed a little subdued that day
i agree he seemed kinda bored or not himself lol
@BobChessickno it wasn’t, that happened in 2001.
Ain't no joke, mates: I turned 27 that day!
And The Japanese version of Super Mario Bros 2 turned 12!
Longest opening ever
It would have been funny if Bob waited to come out like he did during the Susan Derbeck episode!
i still dont know how bob got barrington out of thorenson
Bob was a mystery too.
I think he was just joking and trying to make the situation even more ridiculous just for fun.

You have one chance to find Nicole thornson Rod Roddy
This is giving me Susan Derbeck vibes. 😂
To be fair, Nicole shouldn't have been denied a spot on the first game.
