Hans Guenter Bernhardt it works great with lamb but pork reacts better if you plan on marinating
@@BobMarley-vl5gl thanks. I will try it
Lamb isn’t exactly gyros. I have only seen lamb done by Turkish people in Greece. And it’s called Döner
@@hallobre yep, in Turkey they name it Döner.
Dann ist es nicht Gyros sondern was anderes. Gyros wird aus richtigem frischem Schweinefleisch zubeteitet und nicht aus Gehacktem Lamm, Rindfleisch etc
Awesome video and explanation Pitmaster. I am using your method for our Greek Easter Rotisserie Gyros tomorrow!! 2 questions. 1) How long on the indirect heat? 2) My bbq is a Weber it doesn't have the IR burner. To crisp the outside, I was going to just go to up it to the higher flame. I will have to take the pan out from underneath so all the juices will drop into the burners. Should this still be ok as long as I clean it after? Thanks!
Man, don't pronounce gyros like it's from Mexico HAHAHA
He is actually pronouncing with the Dutch G.
However he is pronouncing it is annoying and he's trying too hard. If you speak English just say it in English. If you're speaking Dutch just say it in Dutch. But don't twist or collaborate the 2. Sounds like a Fool to me.
Waha authentic dutch accent xD
@@Никарагуанскийпрочность you're a fool! He's Dutch dude. Jes saying it how he knows. Explain to me how you pronounce Gyro in English dumb ass.
@@rich8381 If only you knew how stupid and ridiculous that statement was you would have never said it. Ofcourse I know he speaks Dutch you belated prick. I speak Russian, English, & Spanish. When i speak English to my friends I don't say "Borsh" as if it's pronounced in Russian. I say it the English way. Likwise when I speak Russian to my friends I don't pronounce "Tacos" the Spanish way. I only pronounce it the Spanish way when I'm speaking in Spanish.
Hi Pitmaster. If you don’t eat pork, what alternative do you recommend, what piece of beef meat is best for makin rotisserie gyros?
Back east NY and NJ gyros are made with lamb and beef. Never pork. I will pass on this recipe
In Greece, gyros is made from pork or chicken.
This recipe is probably infinitely better than the genetically modified piles of shit you call meat in the USA.
Try BZ grill in Astoria or Brooklyn then, you'll be surprised.
Astoria Queens is/ was the biggest Greek community in America, and Gyros are pork throughout that neighborhood but sometime in the 70s every diner owned by Greeks started serving gyro made from a beef/ lamb mixture in Syrian style pocket pitas they sold like crazy and that's what most non- Greeks think a gyro is
@@googlesmostwantedfrog147 Probably to address a bigger clientèle
Wherr can i find this Recipe on paper

Turkish Doner is made of lamb, beef or chicken..not pork.
wheres is that rub recipe at
You are pronouncing gyros incorrectly. Ha ha. It's not HR phlegm sound. It's much closer to YE like HEAR YE HEAR YE. YE-ROS. GYROS. Cheers.
yē-ˌrō or zhir-ō
Greek: γύρος.
Romanized: gyros.
Pronounced ˈʝiros.
Sounds like: Yee ros (rolling the R).
According to the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA).
Looks awesome. Doing this for the 4th of July Holiday here in the U.S. About how long did you roast with indirect heat before using the infrared burner? Thanks!
Please stop saying ,,hyros'' its ,,Gyros'
It’s acc pronounced heeros it’s similar to the English word hero but heeros or yeeros
idk but I have a greek friend and he says its pronouced gyros
Готвене с Георги in greece the g is pronounced often as a y so a lot of people pronounce it as yeeros or yeero which is the proper way but it can be pronounced properly with a h as it’s acc a really soft g to say the word and since a lot of English people struggle with that , it often comes out as a h sound
Its actually pronounced yee-ro
Whats the name of the powder again?
Amazing. You can cook Gyros but you can’t pronounce it.
