    The whole winter scene is my favourite. Really enjoyed watching the train go through it. Great job!

    Beautiful layout well done
    I don’t like however Kato track in spite of it being balllasted

    • @AlleghenyNorthern
      @AlleghenyNorthern  6 месяцев назад

      there seems to be some pretty strong opinions on the Kato unitrack and i do admit you can get much more realism from some other systems HOWEVER, it's very reliable track, has some of the most flexibility and available components and for me, the small amount of sacrifice in realism is worth it. i do want to go in and improve the look with some weathering and joint fillers at the sections. i haven't ventured there just yet and it's kinda low on the priority list. stay tuned though, it might change your opinion on the track.

    My 2 cents... I purchased 2 of the Broadway Limited SD-40s in the BNSF paint scheme that were just released. I got the DCC with sound locomotives. They run very smooth, look really well and have nice DCC features. I know you said you are gun shy but both the locomotives I got were well worth it.

      i'm not saying i won't come around to buy them at some point if they're still available - but it's definitely going to be after the ScaleTrains versions due at the end of the month. And then, i think i'll buy one and see rather than two. I do appreciate the report though - it's possible they did better on this round.

    All ways like seeing trains running on your layout. Enjoy seeing what you have done to the layout each month. I received my coil cars about 10 days ago. These are the 48’ run also ordered some extra coils of steel. I’m pleased with the cars. Also waiting on the SD40-2s from Scale Trains in the Southern. Have preordered some of the second run in the Norfolk and Western. I hope they’re very nice. Intermountain is also running a lot of SD40-2s should be able end of April. I’ve only have send them at Midwest Model RR . Looking forward to seeing what you have in store for next year. Thanks for sharing. Happy New Year. ! ! 😎😎 👍

      Thanks and Happy New Year! Ah, Intermountain is back in the game - good, I have two of their first runs without sound. Not terribly detailed, but very reliable - so that'll be worth waiting for April. I reserved three of the ScaleTrains locos - so the hopes are high! But their coil cars are beautiful - i like that the shields come off to show the coils. It allows for staging an interesting static scene when the cars are in a train.

    Happy New Year to you and yours. Layout looking and running great. Love all the improvements this year. Always something to do or change. Signals are coming alone nicely. Wondering what control system you will use. Also have you found anything to work for the welded rail train? Thanks...

    • @AlleghenyNorthern
      @AlleghenyNorthern  6 месяцев назад +1

      Happy New Year! Honestly, I haven't looked for the welded rail solution. I'm about do for an actual hobby shop run rather than an online order so i plan to look through the shelves and see if I can find something that works.

    Stick with the Scale Trains SD40-2. The Broadway Limited locomotives are Garbage, Junk, Trash!! My entire fleet of BNSF, CSX and NS are all Scale Trains and never had a problem. I was constantly working on my 6 Broadway Limited's and they would run great one day and Crap the next. The only 2 I kept that are perfect every time are my Centipedes.

    • @AlleghenyNorthern
      @AlleghenyNorthern  6 месяцев назад +1

      That has been my experience. they look decent, but run like crap. Mine have developed this new annoying thing where they keep losing connectivity and the sounds restart - but then a random sound gets stuck on for one of the consisted locos and since it's consisted, i can't directly control it to stop it so i have to stop the train, take the loco out of the consist, stop the sound, and then re-consist. i've never been so let down by a purchase.

      @@AlleghenyNorthern Also try ATLAS CONDUCTA LUBE #192 It's hard to find and sometimes pricey. I had remembered that I used it on my Broadway Limited Mikado on the tender wheel pick ups. It had sound and was doing the same things you stated. And the problem went away, Also used it on my Centipede as it started doing the sound cutting out and it stopped doing that after I lubed the wheel pick ups. Sorry about that, My memory is getting bad at 65 yo.

      I haven’t bought anything from BLI for HO, so I’m not sure how they run in that scale. One thing I also see (in HO) is the price point is pretty high. Even higher or just as expensive as like Athearn and Scale Trains but without some of the fine detail. Maybe there are similar issues like this in N scale?

    • @AlleghenyNorthern
      @AlleghenyNorthern  6 месяцев назад

      @@JoshuaEhlen BLI has a quality control issue in my opinion. they're definitely not my first choice in locomotive selection.

      @@dutch2120 interesting. i'll have to see if my hobby shop carries the atlas stuff.. if not, i'll find it online - seems like something walthers would have. thanks!
