I feel you, but the companies mean damage to _the boot._ Like they said, if they just leave the boot on the scene post-removal, completely in tact, it's legal. These smart young women seem to be doing just that! 😎
I love this. I was booted myself IN my own apartment complex last year. I was walking out for work and caught the guy finishing up and asked him what he was doing. He immediately removed the boot. It’s absolutely predatory. I wish the bootgirls were around when I was working for Postmates. I had not a single place to park by a restaurant to pick up a customers food. There was a sign that said private parking from 9pm- 7am. It was 7:30pm. I parked there, WITH MY CAR RUNNING, but locked. I was in the restaurant for not more than 2 minutes because the food was already made. I came back and that fast my car was booted and I’m stuck there with a customers food that I’m sure they never received. I had to pay 125 dollars to get the boot off. It set me back so far that year, I was almost homeless. I hate these companies.
Yeah, when I was still working in DC 20 years ago. I parked my car on the street and it was Sunday, just 2 minutes, and I got a ticket for $100. I told the cop, Sir, it is Sunday, can I have a break? He said, Do you think the government doesn’t work weekends? I told him I thought DMV was closed on Sunday, but he still gave me a ticket anyway.

Love this, it’s easy to up our Police Department’s Prosecution Quota here. I’m not in Atlanta so this doesn’t concern me, but a year and a half ago when the prosecution quota went up, we started using “Bait Cars” with boots on them, calling these “Boot Girl” type companies, then as soon as they arrived to take the boot off, we have two of our uniformed officers arrest them. Though the boots are put on here by THE CITY, not some random private company. So when they remove them, it’s a felony offense. Most don’t actually see jail time unless they’re repeat offenders, but I’ve easily met my quota on several occasions running quick bait car operations. By all means, keep it up, you’re just making my life easier 😂😂😂
Im confused I thought boots were put on cars by the city for not paying parking tickets. So how are 2 chicks who just happened to get a boot key somewhere taking the boots off after people pay them instead? Isnt that illegal?
Booting is out of control in Atlanta, to the point where it is really a scam. I dont see this much in other cities, especially cities where only the police can order a boot supplied. We were in Atlanta about a year ago to see a specialist for my daughter and we parked in a lot, and paid for a full day. I came out a couple hours later and the car was booted as I had failed to put the parking pass where they could see the time stamp easily. I called, and was told that it was my fault and would have to pay for the unbooting. I did so when they came and removed it. I put the payment ticket where it could be better seen and even asked the guy that removed the boot if that was a good spot and was told yes. Later that day, around 3 we left and I found it booted again and when i called again was told that a "full day" ended at 2. This seemed like retaliation for calling the first time but not sure. This time I called the police and a officer came by, agreed that the whole thing was wrong as a full day should usually be at least 8hours and no signs were posted that said 2 pm. He told us sadly that the police have no control in private lots and these days it was almost better to illegally park on the street. He did, however, slip me a card along with a card with a case number which had a phone number and a message that they could remove the boot for a great deal less than i had been charged earlier. Very nice couple arrived promptly and removed the boot.
a day is 24 hours, if they said a "work day" ok, but a full work day is between 9 am to 5 pm which is 8 hours their "full day" ended at 2 pm something wrong with that.
if one company boots 100,000 cars at $75 per removal, that's $7,500,000, if there are 15 companies doing this it's a $112 million dollars a year industry. The private property claim is moot if you are not allowed to remove yourself from the premises.
It feels like extortion. In my city, a towing company was towing cars parked legally in a retirement community. Elderly people couldn't make their doctor's appointments.
@lucyross5478 Typically a private parking lot, in this case the parking lot owned by the retirement community, has a partnership with a towing company in order to reduce illegal parking. Why would the retirement community continue to use this towing service if what you say is true?
@@lucyross5478 They suck. $ sucks unless we're rich. Many of those cars (i visited mum in a facility) are visitors to their elders providing essential continuity of family to otherwise isolated parents. Parking shouldn't be a source of revenue like that. It's reasonable care of/for the elderly.
This is an example of when people take action, where the government, PAID BY THE PEOPLE, fails to protect people. An absurd that the citizens need to resort to this in order to get rid of such predatory activity!
This isn't the government booting. They cannot remove those boots legally. They are removing boots placed by private parking enforcement companies on private lots. It is not illegal to remove those boots (but it is illegal to damage/destroy them). Atlanta has a MASSIVE problem with predatory parking enforcement booting legally parked cars to boost revenue.

We had a company dinner at Maggiano’s in Buckhead. We all parked in the restaurant parking lot. When we left the restaurant, my car was the only one being booted out of all my co-workers who happened to look different from me. The guy booting the car told me the restaurant had called as soon as they saw me parking. He took the boot off when I showed my receipt. I have never returned.
Happened to me in one of our work trucks. Stopped at walmart to buy lunch and came out to a booted truck. Cost me $300 to remove the boot. I called the cops, and they would not even come out. This was a company called Maximum Boot Co. All of them thieves, scam artists, and criminals.
I worked in the parking industry for over for over a decade. Making someone’s car stuck on your property just boggles my mind. Usually you just want people pay and leave and not cause you problems. Boot girls are doing a great service, but I hope they stay safe. Some people take their job too seriously.
I didn't understand that when I was in Boston and there were warning signs that one's car will be booted if one parks where one is not supposed to. In my state, one's car is towed if one parks on property where one doesn't have business. Rendering a car immobile where it wasn't wanted in the first place makes absolutely no sense.
I once got booted because I parked in a lot in Atlanta and the guy next to me who was leaving gave me his parking receipt because he still had over an hour left. I got booted and had to pay $100 and the guy said, "read the fine print. Parking is non-transferrable." What a BS industry. Preying on people being nice to each other.
Ngl, that was kinda dumb on your part and a learning experience, but at the most, you should have only had to pay the normal parking fee. $100 is insane and definitely predatory.
The replies to you are so weird haha. I've also given someone my parking receipt that had hours left on it so they could use it and it wasn't an issue at all. Sorry that people are acting like you committed some crime because someone was nice to you.
Boots should ONLY be used by Police. I am shocked that this is a business. It's a natural for strong-hand tactics on the part of boot owners. Like with bounty hunters, regulations aren't enough, the state should be the only authorized agency that can boot your car.
The value of the automobile normally out weights the alleged value of assumed suit (ticket) that is unlawfully applied. Not even " code enforcement agents " should have the ability to apply another apparatus of extortion against the people.

This is so completely predatory. Yes, people need to park legally, which is an obstacle in large metro areas. They have turned it into a free-for-all by allowing so many different companies to do it with little regulation. These girls are amazing; just concerned for their safety 😮❤
The attorney makes a good point. If these property owners don’t want these cars to park illegally and teach them a lesson, then have the car towed. By having cars be booted, the space where car is booted is still being occupied which prevents a parking space for being available to another car. It seems like boots is just another way for property owners to make quick cash and save their own money and time without using a towing company.
100% this. I'm willing to bet that the property owners and the boot companies are splitting the profits from these fines and wouldn't surprise me if some property owners also own some of these boot companies.
We got booted in Atlanta a few years ago. The guy who came for the boot was obnoxious with an attitude and he really irritated me and I was just being casual about it. This wouldn't be possible where I live in Germany. If you were to not pay the fee for the private parking lot they'd just send you an invoice with a hefty fee (I imagine something between 50-100€), which is fine since they have to cover their cost of obtaining your adress through your license plate number from the authorities. Most private parking lots/garages will have boom/gate at the entrance where you draw a ticket upon arrival and you'll need to go to a payment machine before exiting to clear the fee of the ticket, depending on the time spent parking. Nobody but the police is allowed to attach boots to cars here. I think it's completely out of place to use boots on cars to ensure a minor fee of maybe 100$ is paid. If you think about it, what if someone places a container blocking the entrance to your company or house just because you didn't pay for a delivery. That's just uncalled-for, it's out of place to block something worth tens- or hundreds of thousands $ for a minor fee. Just mail them the invoice, easy...

Very nice couple arrived promptly and removed the boot.

if one company boots 100,000 cars at $75 per removal, that's $7,500,000, if there are 15 companies doing this it's a $112 million dollars a year industry. The private property claim is moot if you are not allowed to remove yourself from the premises.
It feels like extortion. In my city, a towing company was towing cars parked legally in a retirement community. Elderly people couldn't make their doctor's appointments.
500 for semi truck without the trailer. That probably double that figure.
Pretty sure he said 1000 cars. And the card said $50.

This isn't the government booting. They cannot remove those boots legally. They are removing boots placed by private parking enforcement companies on private lots. I grew up in Atlanta, and at one point I had to go to the dermatologist to get something frozen off (I was like 4 and don't remember what specifically I had). We leave the doctors office, im in pain and we have a boot on our car. These people absolutely sit and wait for people to park and boot cars for the hell of it. They then took an hour arguing with my parents before removing the boot. All while a sobbing 4 year old wrapped in cellophane (i dont remember why I was wrapped in cellophane) kept begging him to let us go home.
Maybe you had a problem with squirming so they just decided to wrap you up like a present. Maybe it's all a lie and you were involved in a secret government experiment kind of like the Tuskegee experiment. A lot of those used to happen in Atlanta years ago.
Not only are a lot of them predatory, a lot of them are straight up criminals stealing from people and some businesses owners get a kickback. Towing/booting are shady businesses. A few years ago I lived in the city with my roommate. They had gone to a store to pick up an order, but the main entrance was broken, so you had to enter through the small business next door. When my roommate got out, their car had been towed. Turned out the owner of the business had a deal with a local towing company and was towing anyone who parked in the parking for their business only and did not enter their business…but their door was non functional *and the business had signs up* directing you to go through the adjacent shop to enter theirs. They were able to make a lot of money and pay for that door😂 There needs to be bans were available and tight regulations everywhere else
I’m so proud of these young ladies. Kudos to them 😊👏👏👏👏

I doubt very much that a boot company operator sold them a key. That would put them out of work. It was more likely stolen. Or beat up and stolen. Heroes or Villain's ?
Heroes don’t charge you 50 dollars to help you.
No they aren't because a real superhero doesn't charge you for any money and they do
@@gregkareem9824 Yes you are right. I have an idea for a new movie. A superhero that charges a fee. If you don't agree to pay he lets what ever happen to you. Of course it would be a comedy.

I think the "Boot Girls" are Super Heroes. I applaud them for their work. They are doing a service for the people in Atlanta.

That boot company owner is lying they will boot you even if you paid are parked correctly! It is so bad that in the 13 years I have lived here, I don't even go to Atlanta!
I feel like this is going to happen more and more and I'm glad these girls are doing what they are doing. These businesses and these big cities they buy property and there's literally no where to park and land is running out some places. These boot companies pray on that and that's how they make their money... just like towing companies....
And the boot girls are extorting for slightly less money than the boot company! The news even interviewed the pimp that supplies the keys and controls the territory they work. They drive around parking lots looking for victims to prey on, leaving cards hoping they get lucky before the boot company does.
You can vote in for more parking to your city. Gov will subsidize certain properties and make more parking.
I never trust a towering company. They are deep in the devil for contracts. A regular tow who is a solution for a tow are wonderful angels
These women are my heroes. May the force be with you!
These women are just as much of a crook as the people putting on the boots
Thanks, ABC News, for letting us know that in Atlanta you can make a booty call.

I love that they have found a solution to a problem and making money to better their lives and that of their family. Good for you ladies and the boot key man:). Good for yall!!
Yep, he sells the keys and manages the girls that perform the service. They sell their service slightly cheaper than the parking companies. Straight up boot prostitutes with a pimp and everything!
Or you can be like normal people and just give them a parking ticket, these ladies are helping the communites out... Those are some bs reasons to take something off of someone who is giving consent to remove the device

Interesting topic to discuss here. I’ve never had a boot on any of the cars that I’ve ever owned, but I can only imagine coming out of a store or business to find my car immobilized. Man I’d trip all the way out! The one thing that comes to mind for me is what if it were an emergency situation, U know, life or death. I get chills at the thought. 🤷🏾♂️
I went to NYC and the first day I've been booted 2 times. Yes this is a huge scam and they're going to use police to enforce that scam. Thank you for doing this Girls
That is odd. Only the city(financial department) is allowed to boot in NYC, and only after you owe more than $350 in default judgements.
@monadeleoninfiltrator Owe $350 for like 3 or 4 months at that.
The lies, the lies😂😂😂😂
What do you gain from lying about a place you've never been to on the internet? Such a sad life you must live lol

Yep, he has the keys and manages the girls. Straight up boot prostitution with a pimp and everything! They sell their services for slightly less than the parking company that did the booting and have little to no overhead. If the parking lot manager boots and gets paid, they call it extortion, but if someone else removes the boot for cheaper, they are somehow a hero? The boot girls just extort in a different (and more profitable) way. I'd love to see their financials. I'm sure they are paying their taxes and business license fees to the city/state/feds like the parking companies do. @@gladitsnotme
Abide by road rules and laws, pay your ticket fines in a timely manner when you get 'em and you won't have to be concerned about your vehicle getting booted. Best to follow the law and avoid the hassle.

I love this story. Two young ladies working hard, making an honest living with an entrepreneurial spirit vs predatory booting companies and fat cats making side dime off of ruining peoples days. Saw one sign that showed that people would get the boot for bad parking. I see elderly people doing their very best to park and still kinda caliwonker their vehicles. I've done it myself and would be mortified if I returned to find my vehicle booted, leaving me stranded to pad some A holes pockets.

@@adventuresofbabyleonardoth5953 Have some compassion. I know, I have a "thing" about parking evenly within the lines so I'm not crowding anyone near me. (My Dad taught me many of my best driving skills -- he was a truck driver.) But sometimes someone else is crowding the line and if I parked straight I could not get out of my car!

Why hire private companies to lock someone's car in place, where they aren't supposedly supposed to park anyway, for money? The business is working with the boot company to have people's cars booted. Wow. I had no idea this was a thing in ATL.
I'm glad to see some legislators from both sides of the aisle who want to stop this predatory practice.
If you make the cost 20 bucks instead of 50, most people will pay it and not do it again.
A parking ticket is usually 20 bucks so that's fair. I wouldn't ban it all together because the lot owners have rights too...
Compromise, not taking sides is a better way to handle things.
Towing and booting in big cities has grown crazy. They will type without any laws being broken yet you still have to pay hundreds for only a few of being locked up. Our big business to these companies who know people need their cars for work know they’ll do whatever to get their car back. Shout out to people not afraid to go against these criminals taking advantage of citizens.
This. I live in a state where oil and gas is in charge and kills most initiatives for public transportation, and municipal leaders allow property owners to monetize surface parking and build acres and acres of parking garages.
Can we get these girls a tv show PLEASE? Lol bc I would watch
I live in Houston and tickets are the best option. We never run into issues. These girls are doing great work!
Rule #1 of creating a hustle...don't tell anyone about it. Let them figure it out. Now if the government bans boots, they will be out of a gig
It's always a fee. I recall when I first moved to Atlanta, worked at AT@T downtown, parked at the lot across the street, put my $$$ in the little slot that matched my parking spot, no receipt , left work that afternoon car booted. What a effing scam. Just like the probation LLC' s just collecting $$$. We need to get rid of this fee culture
I love this. I like that they highlighted these women and still kept their identities hidden
Remember when Batman charged people $50 per save? Me neither.
Someone parks illegally and gets booted. Boot Girls remove the boot dor for $50. The prefatory behavior in this situation is by the Boot Girls. It is against the property owner whose property is being occupied illegally.
If boot companies are applying boots illegally, that is a separate issue. The answer to that is to have swift and harsh punishments for the boot companies.
