    You do a great job with the videos and never mislead the viewers, unlike some. Interesting video 👍👍

    Huge props on the transparency and balls using that solder sucker! Gives me the willies just waiting on a pad to get lifted, but you've got the skills. I ruined my pcb about 20 years ago using a cheap Chinese desoldering gun. Live and learn! I've also discovered that running a 400hz square wave into the input can often provoke oscillations that a clean sine wave won't.

    Great video! I have 4 Rivera amps right now (I don't have a problem I think), and the later amps all have the reverb tanks in vinyl bags, so they did improve on that. It is also pretty normal for their combos to have the chassis recessed like that. They make a similar amp called the Chubster with a deeper cab, and the chassis is even more recessed.

      I had this very amp back in early '00s, and mine certainly had a bag on the reverb tank. I have a feeling this one might have got lost -- perhaps in that previous repair?

      @@erajad I also have an R55-12 from probably 1993, just like the one Brad was working on, and it was set up identically: no bag and shielding on the bottom of the cabinet.

    Fascinating video! I'm the numpty who asked "Where's part 2?" on the Part 1 video. :/ And here it is! Well worth the wait! When I had a Rivera R55-12 for a few years back in the early 2000s, it was my pride and joy ... but my memory is that I always had a struggle to dial in the "sound in my head". And the "Ninja boost" was too big a jump to be truly useful for me. Still, solid little combo, and I appreciated the care you took in this exercise in resurrection. :) Thanks, Brad!

      I actually really like this amp. I had a little extended jam on it when it was done, which I often do subconsciously when an amp sounds really good. I should have clarified that my comments at the end about it not being my cup'o'tea was due to the quirkiness that I ironed out later. I kinda think I knew something wasn't quite right, but there was a deadline and I'd never had that unit in person before. Listening to the audio when editing the video and advice from those who have owned one is what made me make the re-call.

    Broken wires in the reverb tank? No way!!😂. Btw, my R55 cabinet also extends the same from rear of chassis. Likely designed this way for the purpose of sonics, aesthetics, or other?

    Pull for Ninja? WTF does that do? Give the amp more kick I guess. Could be some kind of stealth mode too I suppose.
    Re. That microphonic V1. Are there any circuit faults with amps that can cause a microphonic tube to to behave even more so, or is it all down to the tube? JMP 1987 clone in this case. I tried every 12AX7 I have, plus swapped the tubes in the amp around. Some were a bit less microphonic than others, but none of them passed the chopstick test. Bummed me out, because three of them are vintage tubes that tested really great in every other respect. I'll try a JJ short plate or something I guess. That or just make an appointment for it to see the amp doctor. :P

    If you hit the cover with a hammer or mallet, it will change the resonance frequency and stop the noise. Ask Lyle and Jason. They'll tell you the same thing.

    • @BradsGuitarGarage
      @BradsGuitarGarage  7 месяцев назад +1

      Yes, I ended up doing that with my rawhide mallet later, as there was still a slight whine even with the rubber installed.

    Hi Brad, what did you change the RIFA cap with? I have a Rivera Knucklehead 100 that blew the cap, when I opened the amp it was missing with signs of a mess after it blew.
    I bought them amp and it has worked well, recently started making noise on startup that would go away after 2-3 mins, hence I opened it, and the issue was the voltage regulator caps were leaking, changed them and noise was gone and amp back to normal but still missing that C2
